That's great Lois!

Did you notice the marquee on the old Peru Theater? "Politics" starring Marie Dressler and Polly Moran.

1931 - Middle-aged widow Hattie Burns becomes fed up when local small-town politicians ignore corruption and decides to run for mayor herself.

Brian, that is really funny. Saw the name but didn't spend anytime looking it up. Thanks for letting us know.

does peru have any middle aged widows that would like to run for mayor to get rid of the current mayor?

It looks like people rushing city hall to get the last bowl of soup. It must have been higher taxes that put all these people on the soup line. At least the loyal city employees will have employment...Its in the contract.

1931 Veterans Swimming Pool was only 3 years.. 2011 Veterans Swimming Pool is 83 years old and closed. How many years does anyone think it will be before Peru has a swimming pool? Why not give our children a splash pad so they grow up with some form of summer water recreation in Peru? The amount of funds raised , $35,000, for a pool is hardly enough to keep up with the rate of inflation for a $5,000,000 investment as well as building a pool which will not ever show a profit and be open for less than 70 days a year. Great effort but it is time to explore alternatives.

That picture is hilarious. This should be the next movie in Maud Powell plaza! Let's find it, I wonder if the library could locate it?
