Honesty in Government

What initially seemed to be a ho hum story regarding the pool chemicals disappearance seems to have affected many residents. Not only how dangerous were the disappearing chemicals because we were never told what types were taken and in what quantity. Speaking of swimming pools, the first thing that comes to mind is chlorine. Do you as a resident have a right to know this even though the aldermen and police dept. did not seem to be concerned about any of this. Brian Foster has posted several interesting links on chlorine you might like to view. The truth and accuracy of all previously made statements have been called into question and lets hope this will encourage them to set the story right.

Well said Lois! One of the first truths I would like to hear is - was there any sign of breaking and entering? Also, has anyone collected the keys yet or does anyone even know who all has keys from the previous administration?

I don't think you have to look to hard to find out what happened to the chemicals. Look at the friends of whom had the job of takeing care of the pool. I'm not a detictive, but I can figure that out. Common sense.

Does anyone even know who has the keys from this administration? The pool was open during the last administration. The disappearance of the chemicals and the p.a.system have taken place in this administration. The last administration has not been in office for over 2 years therefore this administration has been in office for over 2 years. A time frame of over 2 years is more than enough to have locks changed by the present administration if they had doubts. If the change promised had been made maybe this would have not happened. Now who do the citizens trust? Seems the situation is similar to that snowball rolling downhill! Now the safety issue has appeared and MUST be acknowledged by those who wanted to ignore the entire situation. I believe that someone has already stated that if this situation was not investigated it was going to get very embarrassing for those involved. They told the truth.

I've been told that the Police Department will be looking into it.

Brian blogged today that he was told that the Police will be "looking into it to see if there is anything actually missing/misplaced etc." Now what are we being told? How could containers of chemicals be misplaced? Honesty is the key word regarding this topic. We seem to be getting the runaround with regards to the pool and its' contents.

I see that there is another "closed session" on the agenda for tomorrow's council meeting. Just curious as to how situations, salaries, policies, etc. (that are now being discussed in closed session) were handled by the previous administration. I don't think there hardly ever, if ever, was closed sessions. Makes one wonder what's going on today and what was going on back then. I'd had also heard that closed session minutes should be published after a 6 month period. Does anyone know if this is true and if so why we haven't been publishing them?

Does anyone know or understand what the "Public hearing regarding the proposed Block Grant" is all about? It's to be held Monday Aug. 15th before the regular council meeting. Have heard nothing mentioned about it by anyone except it was published in the paper and is posted on the city web-site.
