Email to Illinois Department of Public Health

I feel that the residents of this city of Peru have a right to be aware of what is going on at PVAS. This is part of a letter sent to specific people in public positions.

It was part of an unsigned letter supposedly written by employees.

N.T. Reporter Jeff Dankert twittered that the Peru Ambulance Board met with Peru City Officials on Saturday. No votes or decisions were made and his story to follow on Monday in the paper.

Lois: I wonder, after all this time, why the Ambulance Board decided to consult with City Officials. Do you think it had to do with La Salle breaking away soon or PVAS's supposed questionable leadership?

Lois, I can remember being told of a city council meeting being canceled under the last
administration because of not having a agenda published. What makes it legal to have a meeting of city officials without a published agenda now? Why did this meeting have to be so secretive? As several individuals have already questioned "Does the City of Peru have any business involving itself into PVAS - a private non-profit corporation? I personally believe the city officials have proven they already have all they can manage efficiently as well as to reach out for more.

If PVAS needs assistance why are they not directing their needs to Illinois Valley Community Hospital or some similar professional institution? If the city officials of Peru want to be involved with PVAS because of dissatisfaction, why are they not advising them to get professional assistance? Many citizens will be taking interest in Mondays newspaper to learn what transpired at this unannounced, private, unofficial closed session.

I think that if anyone has this letter that everyone seems to be talking about they should post it.

Fantastic! Now there is a letter that everyone seems to be talking about that most of us don't know about. It is no longer surprising that the majority of private citizens don't care about ------ or want to participate in ---------------.

I will get it into a format that I can put on the blog later today.

If the result of this "I've Got a Secret Letter" game are higher taxes and more city employees,

FORGET IT

we have enough already.

You have enough city employees already? I must say, if it were your house that caught on fire or it took an ambulance 10 minutes to get there when you, your child, or family member was in grave medical condtion, you would be the first to complain! The public perception of emergency services can so different. They love it when help comes quickly to protect life and property. However, when you have to pay the bill for protection, you argue it. Maybe another park, a dog park, or a swimming pool would suffice? A city with limited infrastructure (fire, police, EMS, public works) will never prosper. Business will leave or never come. The new school build in Peru was build because of a vote on a ballot, am I correct? When there is no one to help the children at the school if they get hurt, God forbid, who will be the first to squawk? People pay for car insurance, life insurance, and health insurance.....is public safety not a good insurance policy? I beg to differ with your comment on that. As for the "secret letter" game, I doubt that this is true. Trust me, the people behind a letter like this would NEVER have a public safety career as a benefit of this situation.

Anon 8:18 I agree with 8:51 Peru has enough city employees already. If you are so concerned with public safety why haven't you questioned the location of PVAS. If the building was any further west it would be in LaSalle, which is as far away from the new school you mentioned as you can go and still be in Peru.

Are you seriously thinking of Peru when you state that a city with limited infrastructure will never prosper, can you name the only city in LaSalle County with its own airport and its own power plant, plus its own hydro-plant?

Remember there are more ways to achieve public safety than relying on government institutions. The question is what is the most economical means of paying for quality public safety, not whether it is a option to have or not to have.

In closing I must inform you that one of the huge incentives for business is a cities tax structure. Maybe you should take a good look at outsourcing. Everyone would like to have more but you have to think how am I going to pay for it.

I will play devils advocate on the school question. Yes from Parkside but close to LP.
I hope you come back and tell us how the airport, power plant and hydro have helped the city grow, since out population is not much more now than it was 75 years ago and I venture that we have less manufacturing now.
I for one would be glad to pay additional if we could have top notch skilled paramedic service. I think we should all keep our eye on LaSalle and see how they will do with their new service which appears to be partly FD and partly paramedics. Maybe this time we will be learning from them for answers.

Devil's Advocate 8:18PM brought up the Parkside Jr High built in the west end of Peru and Lois countered that LP was right nearby. CHECK THIS OUT: PVAS was setup to service PERU - it just happened to allow LaSalle in for $. If taxpayer's are funding this service then they should reap the first and best benefit. It should have been located as close to the center of Peru's population with the best road access.

Devil's Advocate, I did not state that the airport, power plant and hydro plant have helped the city grow. I simply stated that Peru could not be considered to have a "limited infrastructure" because it has these public services which no other Illinois Valley city has.

I consider and am more interested in progress than I am in growth. Incidentally growth does not always create progress.

As to manufacturing, I would like to inform you that the entire country has less than what it had 75 years ago. To be specific, at one time Peru had more jobs than citizens. It also had a plant (Westclox) which employed more than 5,000 people. Please refer to the US Bureau of Labor statistics for any additional economic information.

Lastly I very definitely think Peru needs to have an ambulance service! I just do not think it should be paid out of taxpayer's pockets. This should be a privately funded service which charges for service rendered. In other words, if you use it - you must pay for it.

Oh and I forgot.....the location? It is located directly in the center of LaSalle and Peru. It was build there because there was no foreseen movement of LaSalle to another agency. Come on, do some homework. The Peru Fire station is located downtown by the way, right? If we are so concerned with progress, why is there no station closer to the industries paying the most taxes?

As a city we provide PVAS with $4,000/month, donate to a car show that helps support PVAS, and we also have to pay for its service. So I guess you could say we pay out of our taxpayer's pocket and out of our usage pocket.

No wonder the city has no money. No wonder the taxpayer is rebelling. We, as taxpayers, provide PVAS with $4,000/month donate to a car show that helps support PVAS and than we individually pay PVAS for its services.

Is it even legal for a tax collecting body such as the City of Peru to take the taxpayers money which is collected to operate the city and only for the sole purpose of operating the city and to donate it to another organization. If I want to donate to a organization I am fully capable of doing it on my own, I would have hoped that each aldermen would follow the same principle. If I don't pay taxes I'll end up paying some other punishment issued by a government agency. If anyone has the figures could they please inform the rest of us how much money was given out as donations at the last city council meeting.

Could we also be informed how much was given out by the Peru City Council in the last five years? Similar to advertisements which were put in the local paper for years with the aldermen listed by their ward sponsoring whatever the newspaper wanted them to sponsor at the time - politicking paid for by your tax dollar.

How much dose the City of LaSalle donate through their city council?
