Attended by Ald. Waldorf chairman, Ald. Lukosus, City Clerk Bartley, TEST Chris Perra, Jeff King and Doug Bernabei and not sure what we call them at a Public Services meeting, Mayor Harl, Ald. Sapienza, Ald. Mueller, Jeff Perry from Chamlin, Eric Carls, city engineer and 2 others that I believe were other Chamlin Engineers. They did not pass an attendance sheet around.
A lot of the meeting was conducted by the engineers covering topics as roads, sewers, airport (nothing about the past or coming concert). Bucket truck is being prepared for light department, need a very expensive tool for valves on old water mains. We are going to work with La Salle this year and purchase salt together per Jeff Kings information.
Mayor Harl is interested in purchasing the old Coke plant for PW department.
I asked the mayor if he would be appointing one of the aldermen from some committee to attend Recreation Board meetings and he said no, it was not necessary. I pointed out that in the past either from a long ago Recreation Committee to the just eliminated Public Property Committee, an aldermen or 2 attended the Rec. Board and he simply said not needed, they could read the minutes. Also did not know that the Rec. Board submits a budget to the city as he wanted to know what they spent their money on. Ald. Mueller and Sapienza stated they would alternate and attend the Rec. Meetings.
This was a 2 hour plus min. meeting. There is so much to cover that I think this will become the norm. If they continue to have the Committee as Whole meetings prior to council meetings, I can't even imagine what they will discuss because most aldermen will already know whats been taking place. I still can't believe they are going to try and run this city on 2 committees

Sapienza has no clue what he is doing, why would they put him on this committee, both 3rd ward alderman on same committee, sounds like centralized power to me...exactly what Current alderman complained about when they wanted referendum voted against...Waldorf has no clue what he is doing if he doesn't have his script written for him...
He is so rude to constituents at meetings...someone should make a you tube video of his ride comments he would lose to himself if they did
This is off topic but I went by twp office today for a question and the office is closed now during regular governement business hours...where is the supervisor?
All these changes just to quiet Rodney Perez. Sad state of affairs in Peruville!
The rec board definitely needs an aldermen present at their meetings.
Anon 8:00PM Isn't Ald. Waldorfs term up at the next city election? This will give voters a opportunity to display their political knowledge. Hopefully Waldorf, as other past defeated incumbents will be taught that he was to be working for his constituents not himself.
Is part of the script written for Waldorf assembled by TEST, the water treatment corporation which Waldorf as Chairman of the Public Works Department was very influential in making sure that this contract was not open to competitive bidding. In fact this agreement was entered into as a fifth rider and never has been opened to competitive bidding. This rider is for 5 years and $3,000,000.00's. SWEET
Purchase the old Coke building? How many buildings does the PW department need? This is nuts!
Lois,
Heard about the Coke building from an old realtor friend of mine last night. He stated that the city has already submitted an offer of over $550k and it has been accepted.
How can this happen if the council has not even voted on the purchase yet?
Also told me that they outbid a new company that wanted to start a business in Peru.
So we out bid a co. that wanted to start a business in Peru. One that would keep paying property tax on the building and probably employ some residents.
Instead we are going to take a piece of property off the property tax bill, and send the residents an invoice for $550k?
We don't have any money in the city to do anything, where are we going to get this money?
And if they really have submitted an accepted offer, and my friend assures me they do, who would be the person that had to sign said offer? Mayor? City Clerk? on of the Supers? or all the alderpersons?
So much for a donation to the pool or splash pad.
Residents of Peru, get used to your seat in the back of the bus!
The special interests get the front row seats.

At the last committee as a whole meeting, treasurer Hylla stated the city has about $3,000,000 excess. He requested permission to go to Chicago to put $250,000 into an investment and asked if that $250,000 would be needed within the next 2 to 3 years. He was told it would not be needed and to go ahead and invest it long term.
I think they need to investigate the water supply. Everyone in charge of Peru is going nuts!

But nobody drinks Peru water, remember all the bottled we pay for each month at city hall.
How about all the bottled water at these daytime meetings! We know they aren't drinking holy water and don't practice some of the Ten Commandments. Cheaters and liars can look each other in the eyes when they are two peas in a pod! What a joke the city of peru is.
9:11 What kind of comment is that? Please tell us about who is cheating and who is lying.
Who owns the old bottling plant? When TEST abandoned their efforts to build a new building downtown, I heard that they decided to move into the bottling plant. Did they purchase it or are they renting? I don't pay much attention when I drive by - but I thought there was a cabinet store there. Anyway, if it is true that the building is on the market and an offer was made by another business to purchase it, and then the City came along and offered more, it smells of cronyism.
What happened to the big Berger Joint deal on Water Street? The building was still empty the last time I drove by. How long before the city buys back that rat trap?
Oh.... and the building that the Public Doesn't Work Department rents out at the end of Market Street. You know, the one that was busted into and a dump truck was stolen. We are renting that from the nail company. Are they still given us the money back? The nail company was supposed to donate the rent money to be used for infrastructure improvements - but they never actually put that in the lease.
This Coke plant is on Progress Blvd and believe it was where the trucks wee loaded for delivery of the product.

Test owns the old bottling plant on 4th street in Peru.
The building the city is going to purchase is on progress blvd.
Was first the roller rink then Consumers distribution, the Coke's distribution center and warehouse.

Thanks for that clarification regarding the coke plant.
Regarding having an alderman attend Rec. meetings I would suggest if the board issues an agenda before the meeting and an issue or issues to be discussed and voted on, maybe the aldermen in whose wards that will be affected should attend the meeting. The more opinions the better.
10:16 Good point! What did happen to the burger joint? Wasn't that the reason they supposed got that building for a song and dance because they were going to bring something into it??
An elected official NEEDS to be at every rec board meeting.
Friedo.
Lets go fishing.
I only fish alone.
For obvious reasons.
