Public Services First Meeting July 21 More Discussion than Council Meetings

If you have time to attend this 10 AM meeting, it looks to be somewhat overloaded with topics to discuss.

Note the new members at the top. Interesting that this did not go to the council or at the very least to the committee of a whole so that Mayor Harl could get an idea of how the elected individuals that we call aldermen felt about the idea. Evidently he doesn't care.

If like most of the public works meetings, this will be chaired by Waldorf but all the information will be from TEST, from Chamlin Engineering and some should come from the City Engineer.

I do know the mayor has the power to do this but frequently the difference between what you have the power to do and what is right are two absolutely different things.

Shades of President Obama are my thoughts.

Having these meetings at 10:00 a.m. when most people are working is just another Harl way of not letting the public know what's going on at city hall. Transparency my a**!

I was reading Kristy's blog and saw the police reports for the last concert at the airport. I hope that airport security and ambulance personnel are beefed up for this next concert. I don't see this on the Public Services agenda that Lois posted. The concert is less than a month away, and I can only guess that this concert will be so much worse than the last ones.

This abuse of power is glaring proof that Harl is incompetent and unable to govern or compromise in a fair and impartial way. He has no ability to reason and therefore has decided to "rig the game" to prevent any opposing viewpoints. Consolidating power to just two "puppet committees" in order to avoid any opposition is an attack on democracy and an embarrassment to the citizens of Peru.
This is not governing by any measure. This is plain and simple "Power Grab Politics".
Harl and this city coucil have just verified Peru's title as,
"Cheater of the Valley".

Peru now has its own "Amazing Krescan". In his 1st magic act he has thrown the Public Health and Safety committee with Alderman Sapienza, the Public Property and Recreation Committe with Alderwoman Mueller and the Public Works Committee with Alderman Lukosus and Alderman Chairperson Waldorf into the hat, shook it up real good, made a wish for a rabbit but instead pulled out the newest and latest Canonization of Politics in Peru. We now have Mayor Harls' Miracle in the name of the Public Services Committee. Incidentally the "Amazing Krescan" has designated himself to take the Fifth and be a member with a voice and final vote. In this magic act he will not only name the tune but also direct the dance. Upmost it must be remembered that if the Magic Man does not like the tune or dance he will do away with the Public Services Committee as has been done continuously with all other dislikings.

Maybe chairman Waldorf can get some sidewalks in 3rd ward fixed...I doubt it....he is wasting our time again

FYI ! Sure must be nice to be employed by the city of Peru and be able to ride your dirt bike on city streets when you want too ! How about it J. W. Are you special ?

I assume you are all running for office next election?

We need a good strong candidate for mayor next election. Once the preferred strong candidate we need to select three lessor but acceptable candidates. Having five candidates will force a primary and Harl can be knocked out of the race. Somebody needs to find out if a voter can sign more than one petition. I think they can. Lastly we need to publicize at every opportunity when a City of Peru employee is involved in political activities. It is not necessarily illegal, but it looks bad. Lastly, businesses that do business with the city of Peru and contribute to the Harl Campaign shoul also be publicized.

9:48 pm, Yes. We are going to oust you and your buddies from office.
Thanks for asking.

Anon 9:48 Why would you assume "you" are all running for office next election?????????????????????

Going to the Public Services Committee meeting this AM.

Thanks Lois. Wish I could attend but the 10:00 am start makes it very difficult for most folks.
That is no coincidence. Should be quite a "Dog & Pony Show" this morning as the "Puppet Committee" has its first meeting. Now Sapienza and Mueller can sit there with Lukosus and Waldorf as Chamlin runs the meeting. OMG.

Lois, please post if they discuss the upcoming concert and what their plans are for security.

Was the entire Public Services Committee in attendance and if not who was absent?
Why is this meeting conducted during the working hours of most citizens? Being that aldermen are representatives of the citizenship one would think that they would hold their meetings when most citizens could attend.
Once again city streets are not being worked on in a straight line method, but are on a hit and miss program of a little here and a little there. This being the most expensive method I am in question to why Peru aldermen prefer to do it this way. Has anyone ever done a cost analysis for road resurfacing in Peru, and also have they ever analyzed how much time is accumulated on the job versus travelling from job to job and back to the original job?

Shouldn't sewer work be done on Marquette before road construction on that street?

Both 1:16PM and 1:53PM have stated very good logical questions.
I would also suspect that both bloggers when doing a job treat their money frugally and if they make up a budget for their home they do so without a 10,20 or 30% pad.
Observing government projects they are made up with a pad as to what the market will bear or utilize cost plus procedures. These are accounting methods in which all involved look good and come out a winner with only the taxpayer losing. Incidentally you cannot utilize the government methods in creating a home budget, you'll go broke whereas the government can raise your taxes.

Are there still problems with heavy rainfalls with basements getting water up by Marquette street? Isn't it the city's responsibility to have sufficient sewer system to accommodate heavy rains?

Wednesday's Finance and Safety agenda is finally posted on the city website however, I'm pretty sure the members listed are not the actual committee members. This new change seems to have everyone confused.

I made the comment at 9:08.

I am not tied to any candidate. I just like making a point that I hope with all the tough talk one of you would run for mayor.

I doubt it but you never know.

I have heard last week a committee has been formed to elect someone out of 3rd ward, I hope it's going to be public soon...

I'm sure the mayor is forming a committee to elect somebody out of the 2nd ward. I wonder who he will sucker into trying to beat Perez?

Before backing or joining any political committee be aware that the committee may separate its viewpoints from your own as time transpires. One may be wiser to express their own personal opinions. I do believe that one should make their own choices in supporting and voting for a candidate.
Remember that the mayor election is only every 4 years and likewise a alderman is voted in for a 4 year term.
