Streator, others named in rain-related lawsuit

Streator, others named in rain-related lawsuit

Ottawa, Marseilles, Grand Ridge, Lostant and Peru.

Brian Foster has written extensively on this on his blog Peru Pages.blogspot.com. It is information we all need to know about why and by whom the lawsuits were filed and since he focuses on Peru, he tells of what we have not done to correct this issue before it reached the courts.

People ask how many  lawsuits is Peru involved in and the answer is always, I don't know. In the last week, we have been told of two.  Monday it was the lawsuit mentioned by Mr Barnes at the committee mtg of the whole and now another filed as a class action suit by the insured and companies due to flood damage in the above mentioned cities.

Yes what about the lawsuit pertaining to whomever fired last year etc. It is hints and half facts such as this which one who is not fully acknowledged can make on the blog with no responsibility.

9:25 PM

There is a lawsuit against the city by someone who was in the public works department that was let go either last year or a little before that. In fact 2 people were let go but the lawsuit is only by one. The city made a deal with the other prior to dismissal.

8:31 is only half right. So 9:25, I guess it is a half-truth.
Yes a so-called "Plumber" was fired althought he was never licensed. He was fired for physically assaulting a fellow emplloyee in a fit of rage becuse he was unhappy that he was not given a pay increase. He was not "caught" stealing. The other employee who pretended to be a "Horticulturist" was caught stealing. I understand how it's hard for the public to keep track of who is stealing, what department they steal from, and what they are stealing on any given day. Thet's not even mentioning those employees who stealing by the very nature of being on the city payroll with no skills or general worth whether they be in public works, electric dept., or sitting in front of a computer in city hall pretending to be involved in economic development.

Sounds like the only ones making money are the lawyers, suits against city and suits against township for pulaksi are killing are taxes.

You should not be allowed to sue the government. It is a waste of tax money. The government should be considered in the right no matter what. It makes no sense to sue them - they are the government and what they say goes!

The City cannot be responsible for sewer backups. The homeowners need to install the correct check valves in their system - They are responsible for everything up to the connection to the main pipe. To bad, so sad if a storm water backs through the sanitary system into your house. It is your fault and the your fault alone for not updating the piping that connects to the city system. Install valves! One thing the City can do is FORCE PEOPLE TO UPDATE TO THE CURRENT BUILDING CODE. Stop grandfathering stuff in - if the code changes - FORCE ALL BUILDINGS AND HOMES TO UPDATE!I cant believe that houses around here are not REQUIRED to have fire suppression sprinkler systems in them either. GET A CLUE FOLKS! UPDATE YOUR HOUSES!

When is it the city's responsibility to update their stone age system? They waste so much money on cosmetic things and wages why dont they update their infrastructure? why would a homeowner have to eat the cost of the city not updating their end and then letting illegal storm water connections be grandfathered in? When the city continues to be neglegent year after year - they should be sued!

Why shouldn't a person be able to sue the gov.? A person can file a lawsuit to the judicial inquiry board against lawyers and the court system if they feel their case in a court proceeding wasn't properly handled or performed in a timely manner. Check out the website. Why do you think lawyers, and the system has insurance to cover these lawsuits? I know of a person who had a pending lawsuit regarding a case that took over 6 years to get resolved in court. Now a couple lawyers are scrambling and want to settle monetarily with the person. Stand up for what's right if you have a case.

10:20 are you kidding me? The city should accommodate existing homeowners who have a problem with sewer backups when the city allows new subdivisions that have made this a problem! How about the code regarding downspouts on homes draining into the system? Not all homeowners can afford the costs to take action. 10:20, I DONT WANT TO HEAR THAT THE HOMEOWNER SHOULDNT OWN A HOME IF THEY CANT AFFORD IT!!! Only an ignorant person would say that.

What good is a government unless they can FORCE people to stay in line. If the homeowners can't keep up with modern building standards, they the government should foreclose and take the property away from them. Some people should just not be allowed to own property. We also need to look at foreclosing on older homes that are hopelessly out of date. If it is over 50 years old and not historic, then people should be forced to tear them down and build fresh. That would also be good for the economy - think of all the construction jobs! Many of these old houses use way to much energy to heat and cool them. We need to FORCE PEOPLE to be efficient with energy! And don't get me started on those big ugly trucks people are driving around in! They should not be allowed without a REASON - I mean really, unless you are hauling something it should be AGAINST THE LAW TO DRIVE A TRUCK! Time to start passing some laws and FORCING PEOPLE TO COMPLY - that is the only way to solve this problem!

And I assume you would like a dictator in control of the government also. If those are your true beliefs, I suggest you get your passport and put yourself on the next plane out of this country. You certainly should not be living amongst people who believe in a free country with free enterprise. The smaller the government the better and the fewer laws we have is even better.

11:23-ignorance is bliss! You are not a family person with values by your unintelligent blog. Let's say city cemetery gets flooded and coffins float, who is responsible? Relations or the city?

I know of a law that is both a church commandment and a government law.
"Thou shall not steal"
For many years the City of Peru had a landfill and also a yearly pick up of all obsolete water heaters, aluminum doors, furnaces, stoves, pipe, electrical wire etc. This week the city is picking up certain junk items.
What past history does Peru have of the products which were sold to junk yards from the landfill and yearly collections. Someone has to be responsible for these financial records and the knowledge of where this money ended up.
Is it possible that the one thing that the City of Peru Landfill has in common with Las Vegas is "What happens in the landfill stays in the landfill".
Yes, Peru has low property taxes but with proper management how low should they have been and should be?
Sales taxes, electrical department, landfill and on and on. Peru is a goldmine wasted by and on a few.

This is just a blanket statement, but I am in constant amazement at how quickly this area is going down hill. Its not only disappointing, but equally dumbfounding--not only from a government perspective, but an electorate perspective as well.

Speaking of Stealing, what's going on with your mayor and the Feds?? If the mayor can steal tax dollars without approval then employees should be allowed.

1:22 - there are places in the world where the dead people are dug up after a number of years and dumped in a common grave or catacomb and the headstone recycled into gravel- unless the family "renews the lease."

Justin I completely agree with you. I am in the process of moving out of this area and taking my business with me. It's so much easier to start somewhere where the leaders and electorate aren't clueless on policies that will actually grow this area.

A word of advice to anyone on this blog. You know why "they" keep winning? Because they're organized. This blog, unfortunately, isn't.

Don't forget about the hearings ( not really lawsuit yet I think) about Firefighters Pension Board trying to screw Eccles widow out of full pension payments ! I heard this is still trying to be settled because the Fireman are refusing to pay full amount she's entitled too.
