No place to put this comment - butI just heard on the radio that a wolf was found near Tonica! The report did not say what was being done to protect us from these dangerous animals. Are the Sheriff’s Department and local police going to organize a hunt to try to track down the pack and kill them before the population gets out of control? It’s a matter of public safety!

Also don't forget tonight is Spring Valley's lighted Xmas parade. It's usually a beautiful and fun parade.

Kudos to all the Ladd residents who have worked to put together the Christmas activities together for their community. Hope you have a great turnout and enjoy every minute.

I didn't see the mayor at either parade today. I wonder why the mayor wouldn't show up to the festivities?

Anonymous said...

No municipal elections this year.

1005. It's up to you to protect yourself. Not the sheriff

Mayor knows he's guilty and most of us are pist at him. He better not show up. He better start packing. He needs to resign!

Anonymous said...

The mayor only cares about himself . Was probly destroying evidence or paying someone off.

Anonymous said...

Subpoenas eventually? There is always a trail of some sort.

Anonymous said...

I heard Hurl was starting a petition to have peru switch to the monarchy system naming him King Hurl.

Anonymous said...

What do you mean the police aren't there to protect us? We pay them good money they better be out there to protect us.

Mayors normally are in Christmas parades as the cities Santa Claus but since he has already given everything away and very little is left why embarass himself further.
I'd say the Mayor has put himself in such a dilemma, he should resign but he can't resign because this would be admittance to guilt. Too stay on without respect is a insult to his position and all deisions he makes will be questioned.
This situation at best is a excellent example of why a politician should utilize his office for what it is intended for rather than individual or associative groups, friends or organizations in unfair, unethical, or dishonest procedures. Hopefully all the young aspiring and the old seasoned veterans will take heed or they will justifiably also trade in their Santa suit for the Big Bad Wolfs.
Five years ago I'd bet a dollar against a donut that Peru would not be conducting its own private Rowan & Martin Show "Here Come the Judge, Here Come the Judge". You bet your sweet bipy I would have.

Wolfs are butiful creatures. I think it is great that they are returning to our area. The government should do more to encourage them to repopulate. And people need to stay out of the wooded areas.

All of these comments are horrible. Saying he beter not show up. Jesus he has not done a good job but to make it out like you are going to personally run him off is sad. Those comments should not be posted.

I think this is a case of "cyber mussels" where people love to talk tough behind their computer. I hope all of you that talk so much crap pick up your petittion to run for mayor. I hope people remember that he has a wife and kids and grandkids. I am not endorsing his actions but this is a sad collection of people that say these horrible things.

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:36 No one has blamed Harls wife, children or grandchildren. They have expressed their dissatisfaction direcly to the mayor himself who in holding the highest elected city office and has to accept the responsibility of his own and his terms actions.
This is not a case of "cyber mussels" but is a case of concerned citizens using their computer as a tool of mass communication and exchange of ideas. Also the sad collection of people that say these horrible things that you refer to are not among those being investigated. It is the rare situation which is presently being processed in the city which causes qualified candidates not to run for Mayor.
I can assure you that if he would have adhered to his original platform and stayed loyal and consulted in his original backers he would not be in the situation he is in today.

What about mentioning the Pearl Harbor day parade - pay respect to persons who served so you can have your freedoms!

Anonymous said...

Pretty sad that a person can't take a total of about 3 hours on a Saturday to attend and participate in two parades. I'm referring to Scott Harl. I no longer will refer to him as a mayor, due to the fact he hasn't earned that title in my opinion. How is the investigation into the payroll going?

Anonymous said...

9:43 am, I don't beleive the investigation is going anywhere.
In fact, I spoke with a friend who asked Waldorf while sitting in his barber-chair about the investigation and Waldorf replied,
"Oh that isn't going to amount to anything".
So, what does that tell you about the phony-baloney investigation and the sincerity of your phony-baloney aldermen?

Anonymous said...

1:36 It tells you exactly that...phony-baloney from the beginning. And WHY would the alderman even make that comment? Must be pretty sure it is not going to amount to anything. How disgusting!

Anonymous said...

How in the heck did he get voted in as an alderman? I've heard he has made comments to taxpayers that are in his shop when they raise a concern to him, that he is going to discuss it with the other alderman. Talk the talk, needs to walk the walk!

Anonymous said...

Anon 11:23 I agree that nobody is blmaing his wife or kids. But the comments about his weight, calling names, and saying just horrible comments that really would not be made to his face are just not needed. Or the comment that "he beeter not show up" see the comment at 10:06

I think the intention of hte blog is not to just poke fun and say cruel things. Harl is still a human being and has a wife and kids.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Waldorf is for Mr. Waldorf - Oh wait - this is Peru. Ditto for everyone in the city!

Anonymous said...

I find it amusing an accusation was made and now it becomes the truth and automatically the mayor is guilty?!? What happened to due process? I am sure if there was the smoking gun some charges would have been filed immediately. These cyber bullies have nothing of substance but choose to be critical, I can only imagine they find fault with everything and everyone. By tearing others down they make themselves feel better. All I see here is sour grapes!!!

Anonymous said...

People are so fake that it is sickening! And those who know they are, are. Take a good look in the mirror and see what's looking back at you. Just say'in. Truth hurts. Grandma use to say, there are two sides to every story, so before one judges or makes an opinion, they should seek both sides of the story. If a person cheats, they will lie, if a person lies, they'll steal. WHERE ARE PEOPLES VALUES AND INTREGITY? Happy Holidays

According to the results of the current payroll investigation proper steps will be determined. Many feel betrayed and improperly treated for the last number of years i.e. with the handling of the TEST contract creation of a full time fire chief with a $80K raise and creation of benefits etc., etc., etc. that this time they are protecting themselves and the city by staying active and not letting some members of the council take the easy way out. If you have read the barbershop incident you know what I mean. This particular alderman is on the public works committee, the area in which the pay for no work scheme should be controlled by. He believes nothing will become of the investgation!

Anonymous said...

To obtain the most out of this investigation and the present city council the citizenship will have to alertly badger certain council members that their responsibility is to achieve justice because their wish as is the mayors wish is that the investigation will go away.
When attempts of cover up, if made, are instigated there are a group of active individuals who will expose all involved in any wrong doing. The Attorney Generals investigative team is drawn from what division of State Police? They also assume the responsibility of carrying the judicial load if the investigation proves necessary. If anyone finds or is unsure that the letter of the law is not being followed as far as the city and state are concerned what is the next step to take to continue a quest for justice? I suspect that you would have to leave the state procedures and go to a federal level.
This investigation and follow up will stay as close to home as possible as long as it is efficiently carried out, but if any person or group cuts one corner short of complete justice every newspaper and every open form possible will be contacted. It seems that certain national publication such as the Wall Street Journal love to publish about Illinois. The Chicago Tribune and Peoria Journal Star are two near by publications who are always interested in near by features that will increase their circulation. Can you guess how inefficient the present Governor would appear if it was exposed that one of his top law enforcement agencies refused to investigate properly a misappropriation of taxpayers funds. Of course this would be best done by first briefing the opposite party for the upcoming elections. Also there are numerous independent legal organiztions that exist and thrive on suspected incomplete exposures of justice.

SPEAKING OF THE CHRISTMAS PARADE OUR WONDERFUL MAYOR WAS NOT IN ATTENDANCE NOR WAS OUR NEWLY APPOINTED $84,000 A YEAR FULL-TIME FIRE CHIEF JEFF KING. I FOUND THIS WRONG BECAUSE THIS IS A CITY EVENT IN WHICH FIRE APPARATUS IS USED IN THE PARADE AND ALSO THIS EVENT IS PLANNED MANY MONTHS IN ADVANCE. DOES ANYBODY ELSE FIND THIS TO BE A BAD JUDGEMENT CALL? ALSO, THIS FALL THERE WAS A GATHERING AT A COUPLE ESTABLISHMENTS AFTER A SERVICE WHERE MANY FIREMAN WERE IN ATTENDANCE. AlLCOHOL WAS BEING CONSUMED. OUR NEWLY APPOINTED FIRE CHIEF WAS ALSO IN ATTENDANCE. DURING THIS GATHERING A FIRE CALL CAME IN, AND THE FIREMAN AND FIRE CHIEF JEFF KING LEFT THE ESTABLISHEMENT FOR THE FIRE CALL. WHY WOULD OUR FIRE CHIEF ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN WHEN HE KNOWS MOST WERE DRINKING ALCOHOL? HOW DO KNOW THIS? BECAUSE A RELATIVE IF MINE WIRKS AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT WHERE THIS TOOK PLACE. IMAGINE THE RAMIFICATIONS IF AN ACCIDENT HAPPENED? WHY DO OUR TAXES PAY FOR THIS BEHAVIOR? OUR FIRE CHIEF SHOULD BE PUT ON SUSPENSION WITH NO PAY. OR DISMISSED OF HIS DUTIES. APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK BEFORE THIS HAPPENED IS WHEN HARL APPOINTED KING HIS POSITIONS. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT.

SATURDAY OCT. 26, 2013 IS THE DATE MY BLOG IS REFERENCING TO ABOUT WHEN A FIRE CALL WENT OUT AND FIREMAN LEFT THE ESTABLISHMENT./BAR/RESTAURANT. AGAIN, A RELATIVE OF MINE WORKS AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT WHERE THIS TOOK PLACE. This should have its own title for blog discussion. So more people can read and blog their opinions and if they have ever witnessed this.

There is a lot of things that should be investigated.

Do you know the exact date this took place 10:19? Had to be sometime in Oct. 2013 because Mr. Kings appointments by Mr. Harl took place in Oct. 2013 if I remember correctly. This is very very recent. Also since both Harl and King were not at the city parade, maybe both of them had plans together for the day of the parade. I find it disturbing that the city Christmas parade is scheduled well in advance as you do 10:19 and neither Harl or King were in attendance. What could be more important with the titles that these two people have to not make this parade a priority? What's type of disciplinary action taken for the situation mentioned regarding alcohol consumption and fire calls? This has been mentioned before on this forum, evidently it's still happening. Didn't Harl say he lets his department heads run their departments? Isn't it Harls responsibility to oversee his department heads? Does Harl condone this?

Calendar says October 26 was a Saturday. That was the day the city honored Mr. Eccles, which was wonderful. Doesn't make it right though for what the blogger stated happened later. Who from the city is going to investigate this? And when?

Anonymous said...

Shouldn't the fire department have a zero tolerance for everybody regarding alcohol. Who is in charge of these fireman? Who allowed them to go on a call? Fire Chief right there when this took place. ? Questions need honest answers from honest people. Unbelievable.

I just asked someone(a good source) and it seems that 2nd season of deer hunting was more important then attending a Christmas Parade with fire trucks where a fire chief is head of that department. I was told Fire chief King was out of town deer hunting to try and bring back a deer for Santas sleigh, and was unable to be at the parade. What would you do if you were fire chief of a city? Attend a Christmas parade or deer hunt? Does Mayor Harl deer hunt too? Mr. King, were you deer hunting? Did you get a reindeer?

Lois, there really should be a topic title that stands alone to discuss the last few blogs . Regarding the fire department as to what happened on October 26, 2013. Can you do that and move those blogs referencing to that topic so all who participate on this forum can get more insight? Thank You. From:A concerned taxpayer.

O tolerance means not a drop, not an ounce, nothing! All it takes is one person to say something in a conversation or witness something and tell one person and there you have it. When you think nobody is watching , somebody usually is in a lot of instances. People should take accountability for their actions and behaviors.

After the council meeting on Monday nite, I asked Ald. Waldorf if the city would consider recouping money from Chamlin Eng. for the missed reconnect of sewer lines during the 4 & 6 Area project. He stated Chamlin did a diligent job. If so why so many reconnects. Waldorf even made a motion on the final payment to Chamlin. Don!t believe me check the minutes of meetings
from 2012 they are in there. You can complain now, but you the voters had a chance and choice so now blame the voters who reelected the mayor and his puppets.

it is a very scary thought that our city fire truck was possibly being driven by someone that had consumed alcohol

The fire department had their Christmas party at amici's last night. Wonder what that bill cost? Who paid that? Liberty Fire Company? Our donations that's suppose to go for equipment and training . Did city pay from us taxpayers? Isn't that place extremely expensive?

Anonymous said...

Mike Hart, since the election many people who voted would now vote differently. It's amazing how and what has happened in Peru since April 2013. Hopefully Harl will resign.

Anonymous said...

6:22, let alone being at a call or being paid for
staying at the station and being paid $34 (?) for just showing up after having any alcohol. None of this should be tolerated. This is unacceptable and the city allows this to take place? Who's in charge? Who should not allow this? Policy? Not the first time this has been addressed on this town forum.

Did peru have a garage fire this Saturday afternoon? Someone heard on a scanner that it lasted for some time. The assistant fire chief was commander in chief? Where was our fire chief who was appointed as full time fire chief with a salary of $84k? Our fire chief wasn't at Christmas parade last Saturday dec. 17, nor this last Saturday for a garage fire. Wow! It was said he showed up at the end of the garage fire in which lasted for a while. Two Saturdays in a row. Word on the street.

Anonymous said...

Kinda strange 2 Saturdays in a row. People are intelligent to know that there will be occasional times when a person will be elsewhere and unable to get to a call. Just recollect your memory over the previous years as to all the times a person has been out of town or on vacations. Discussed many many times also. Remember Wexclock fire. Fire chief was on vacation in Nashville. Now, if I were in a position such as a fire chief, the last thing I would have done is schedule a vacation around and on New Years Eve, due to the fact that people do celebrate with alcohol and I would want as many fireman who haven't been drinking to be able to show up for a fire call just in case there was one. I would be in town and not drink alcohol. Read blogs about Wexclock fire.
