Apparently I missed the big ad (that has run in the paper for eons at Christmas) that says Merry Christmas from Mayor Scott Harl and Peru City Council. Did anyone else see it?? If so, please post when it ran so I can see it. Thank You.

Give it a rest

Anonymous said...

Amen. Enough.

We're not going to give it a rest. Some of us care how our taxes are spent. Hurl authorized theft of payroll for over 4 years to those who he kissed their butt to get him elected. Not only supers but employees. We won't rest untill he's removed or voted out of office. Also those that padded their time sheets will lose their pensions and their jobs. The citizens are taking more interest in this town and the bully system has to go! Big changes are coming in peru and us citizens are pushing them. We won't be bullied by an overweight jerk any more!

Anon 4:40 sounds like Mr. Riordan. I love that in this time of family holidays he can foster such anger. Oh that's right I won't talk about his family life!!!!

Anonymous said...

Ah sorry, you must be one of Harl's kiss butt buddies that are getting rich off his stupidity. There's more than him that care about the thievery in Peru. He's only one of many of us that aren't going to bow down to Harl any more. There's more of us than you think. And as Tom would say, " if you don't like it tough sh*t " !

I've known the Riordan boys since Pat was on Utica Fire. They're always the first there and last to leave. I'd let any of them back me up. The Riordan's have served this community and the department is better for having them on. If anyone wants to stand up to crooked politicians, more power to them! That doesn't make them a bad person. It makes them an active member of Society.

Sounds like Harl or one of the many city officials that don't like people that ask questions. You guys just want us all to sit back and take it and keep our mouths shut . Well those days are over.

Anonymous said...

Let's just get this investigation out in the open and remove Harl. Its that simple. Leave the people that have nothing to do with it out of it. Petty remarks against fighting family members aren't going to fix Peru.

Anonymous said...

What does someone's family life who has nothing to do with this investigation have to do with Harl misusing tax payers money? Let's stick to the problem at hand.

Anonymous said...

Anon 707 , keep your family problem or your hatred to someone to yourself! Were working towards a common goal here. To fix peru! Not your petty squabbles.

Anonymous said...

Stir the pot, see how fast this blog looses credibility, Lois posts a Merry Christmas post and it goes sour immediately!! How can people be filled with such hatred?? Is that what Jesus would do, on his birthday?? Shame on all you haters!!!

Anonymous said...

Exactly, 8:27. Instead of wishing Lois and others here a Merry Christmas, nothing but complaining. You really couldn't save it for another post? How bitter and complaining. Must be the same ones that didn't feel the Electric Dept didn't need a thank you.

There was a blog a couple years back that someone tried to bash this family for some reason. And all it did was get people to say what a great family this is. They've served the Illinois valley for decades ( police and fire) and are always there to help whoever. The boys are always the ones you see at Walmart or home depot teaching fire safety. They're the ones you see in parades and at anything to do with the fire department. So whoever you are who tried to put this family down again , shame on you and good luck.

@ 7:07 , you must be an angry elf! Did you get coal or socks and mad at everyone now?

Merry Christmas Lois!

You should all go skating and cool off !

This blog post epitomizes the misdirection and what is wrong with so many of these posts. People just post the most awful things on here.

You say "we" are not going to give it a rest. What you miss is this post was about Lois wishing people a Merry Christmas and perhaps people could respond. 8:28's stupid post took that away. At some point your crying about all of your grievances with the city just gets shrill and everyone covers their ears.

Another thing. Stop calling the mayor fat or "Hurl". When you resort to name calling, you make people like me want to support and defend the person you insult. It destroys your credibility and makes you look like a complete fool.

People do not respond to negativity which is why no one really responds to this blog. I'm not saying some people don't read it but the same 20 people complaining back and forth does nothing but disappoint people and hurts what Lois tries to do.

Stick with facts, stop the rumors and name calling. Focus on communicating on how things can improve and make your two better. Because frankly, I would never associate with so many people who can only spread rumors and insult people. So go ahead and let me have it.

Lois thank you and I wish you and yours a wonderful holiday season.

10:23 no one said the Elec dept did not need a thank you. They just commented that this need to never accept a compliment without putting down larger companies or non local is very immature and small town.

I agree that hijacking a simple Holiday wish to attack Harl is also low. But part of it is his own fault. He is not open to criticism or anger, he tries to restrict it instead of meeting and compromising. So people vent here.

And mayor Harl avoided attending a city Christmas parade 8:41. What kind of true leadership is that?

Anonymous said...

Just recently there was a picture in the paper of one of those respectful Riordan boys decorating for Christmas at the fire station outside if I recall correctly, maybe shoveling snow. ???? I would bet he wasn't being paid for doing so. True volunteerism.

Anonymous said...

Was just out taking care of some business. Today would be great day for filling in pot holes - but I did not see a single city crew out doing that. Shooting Park Road looks and feels like a war zone.

Anonymous said...

If Hurl would just answer our questions or talk to us instead of hiring an attorney we'd probly just allow him to walk away instead of prosecuting him and voting him out. Sometimes its more honorable to walk away than be forced out.

Anonymous said...

There was also a post thanking one of the Riordan's for volunteering to fill the ice rink and trying to get it going in sub zero temps last week too. I saw it on Rodney's page. Not paid for that either im sure of! You can't knock down respectable people of our community trying to divert attention from our city leaders corruption and think you'll get away with it.

Did Harl skip the Christmas parade because he wanted to avoid we good old caring taxpaying citizens questions regarding the payroll and it's beginnings of the supposedly investigation? Maybe we should have held signs in the parade regarding this(kids wouldn't notice, they want to see Santa), like the union picketers do. The two people that should have definitely been in attendance at parade were not in attendance. Mayor Harl, Fire Chief King(someone said he was deer hunting out out of town(?). This parade is a fire department function regarding many taxpayers and the children show up for. Parade ends at the fire station with treats for the kids. Next year, I would bet that a certain person tries to have the parade on a different weekend so it doesn't conflict with second season deer hunting, to benefit his own personnel agenda.

Anon 10;25 Do you realize to what extent Scott Harl has tarnished and insulted the position of Mayor of Peru. Mayor Harl did talk to us and answered our questions in his campaigns for Mayor it is his actions in the two terms he has held office which are in question.
To state that we'd probably just allow him to walk away instead of prosecuting him and voting him out makes me believe that you have been a Harl supporter.
Mayor Harl presently holds the highest elected office of the city and therefore appoints the City Attorney and Chief of Police plus has influence over the City Council and all of his other numerous appointments. This amount of power is intended to be granted to only those who use it for its intended purpose certainly not to those who live under constant suspicion. If innocent of the accusations that have caused this investigation he should be exonerated. If it is determined that he is guilty of any clause of this investigation he as holder of the office of Mayor of Peru should be held responsible for his actions the same as anyone else would be. This investigation is very important in the future of Peru. It is a investigation which could be considered as a turning point for Peru for many years forward. It is much to serious to simply be allowed to walk away from if any evidence of any guilt is thought to exist it should be judged as innocent or guilty rather than by degrees of what value of money is involved. People will follow a leader whom they trust in they will never respect a person they don't.
Also a precedent should not be created that anyone should be allowed to simply walk away when caught in a illegal activity rather than serve the penalty for that activity. Personally I pray that any and all accusations are not true. I also pray that justice is served to the maximum to preserve every ones faith in our legal system and in democracy.

I have an idea, at the next council meeting, at the end when they ask if there is any further public comments any of you who are so concerned or upset by his absence in the parade can ask him!!!

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:25 do you also have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale??? LOL

Anonymous said...

12:43, didn't a blogger say that he was raking leaves or working in his yard? No need to have to fill out the index card so it can be proofread before public
Comment. Index cards in my opinion is a form of bullying. Personally, I see nothing wrong with taxpayers observations of those who did not attend a city sponsored event whereas their taxes pay certain persons salaries. The ethicalness would be to attend to show your enthusiasm for your city 12:43.

Happy Holidays to All !!!

Anonymous said...

Actually at the end of the meetings you don't have to fill out a card. Guess no one remembers Baker's meetings when NO PUBLIC COMMENT HAPPENED!!! Certain people will never be happy!!!

Anonymous said...

It's all talk on the blog but when people have an opportunity in public to speak you can hear the crickets chirping!!

Anonymous said...

12:43 Harl was at the parade last year because it was an election year. He walked the parade route and handed out political items and shook hands with people. So why wasn't he at this year's parade?

Anonymous said...

Because he's a tool!

Anonymous said...

Like 12:43 said ask him at the council meeting or better yet maybe Rodney can investigate it and get to the bottom of the Christmas parade conspiracy!!!!

Anonymous said...

8:23. No parade conspiracy. Just an astute observation that when it counts in an election year, Harl shows up, but this year he was a no show.

Anonymous said...

Lol. Maybe he was traveling or out of town. Who cares? The more you debate these stupid little things and spread rumors with no basis the more it takes away from things that matter. Like the name calling. Stop it and focus on what matters.

Same people. Same comments. Different day.

Anonymous said...

There is no conspiracy, mayor Harl and fire chief king were a no show at the city's Christmas parade. And now fire chief king will share management duties for the public works department temporarily. Another one of Harls appointments. Along with Harl appointing King to positions recently at $84,000 a year. Doesn't all this seem a little funny? Some people can outsmart others by their big talk. But can't walk the walk in the real world.
