This blog is maintained for the sole purpose of allowing the people of Peru and those interested in the cities of the Illinois Valley to express their views.
“It doesn’t take a majority to win, just a tireless minority that will keep starting brush fires in the mind and hearts of their fellow men.” Samuel Adams
Term limits on every level are something I believe would be beneficial. Two terms of four years for most offices should be the maximum. When you look at the previous political situation in Peru with Baker having held an absolute strangle-hold on anything and everything in town for so many years. Peru had almost fifty years of absolute rule under an "imperial" mayor who influenced and propped up the candidacy of numerous "puppet" aldermen who ended up serving multiple terms doing nothing more than providing a "rubber stamp" for Don. This was old time Chicago style politics and Baker knew how to play the game. Don Baker's over-bearing presence in Peru politics was way too much for way too long and remains the best argument there is for term limits.
Term limits are a subject that I would like to see reviewed and discussed on the blog. Especially for the political offices of the City of Peru. As far as the state level we know where the Governor of Illinois serves his second term.

An excellent article that definitely should apply to all levels of government. Things have gotten way out of hand both locally and statewide.
