Peru City Council approves $1.79 million splash pad
True political performance by real politicians doing this on the eve of the Peru Municipal Elections. Daddy knows what is best might be the only way to phrase this. Neither the City Council, the Mayor or the Administrator ever called together the people of Peru and asked their opinion. They never asked them what they wanted and as usual assumed that they know better than you. And as far as I know they never told you how they would pay for it, other than the grant and the Happ donation.

Lois that is so wrong there have been numerous meetings, and the public has always been invited.
8:21 am
If there was an informational mtg regarding the project specifically on a non council mtg night, I was unaware of it.
That's not true 8:21. A design was presented and shown the day it was announced that Mr. Happ was donating the money. And, there is no way the people of Peru could possibly believe that a splash pad would cost that much money. Over $500,000 for buildings and decorations? What buildings and decorations are affiliated with a splash pad. The pad itself only cost $730,000 which seems reasonable. Do we really need a million dollars worth of decorations to surround it? Was it stated last night during the council meeting where the remaining million dollars was coming from ($100,000 from Happ family, $250,000 grant, $100,000 friends for Peru pool)? And yes, 8:21 there have been numerous meetings but none that have reminded or informed citizens that they would be discussing the details of this project and none asking for input. Have you looked at the agendas lately for such meetings as the Public Works Committee? They are nothing but a basic format with no details or information as to what will be discussed. They used to be more detailed, at least informing you as to what particulars would be discussed.
Lois,
In your previous post you were against building a pool. A vote was held and nearly 60% were not in favor of a pool.
A grant was obtained for a splash pad, a major donation and other donations have been obtained to build a splash. I think Peru was very lucky to get the grant and donations. Without the grant and donation it looked like Peru would have not built a splash pad. I commend Peru for the move and creativity for making the splash pad with a baseball theme for the accessible for all.
The recent discussion has been fueled by a candidate that reached out for anything he could grab to make a election point. The candidate wants a outdoor pool and didn't mention how he was going to pay for the pool. That's not important to him? Every other home in Peru has a pool, a pool in Central Illinois and school schedules would have about 60 days of possible operation-ideal weather! The cost of operation would be greater. Why duplicate LaSalle, Oglesby, Spring Valley or the YMCA?
I think by the time this is posted the one idea candidate---pool will be forgotten and then he will want to move the fireworks back to Waterstreet.
Jim Dooley elected to rip off township
Seriously who are these voters and what are they thinking
Since you seem to have all the answers 12:07 April 4th please tell me where the rest of the $1.7 million is coming from. GRANT EQUALS $250,000: HAPP DONATION EQUALS $100,000: FRIENDS FOR THE PERU POOL EQUALS $100,000: SCHWEICKERT DONATION EQUALS $10,000. According to my calculations Peru is short roughly $1.2 million. We have no money tree to support a full time code enforcement officer so who is giving Peru the remaining $1.2 million? Anxiously awaiting your reply.
1:03 Don't you know by now that the city of peru is loaded with money?
Police chiefs earning over $100,000; secretaries making $60,000 - what is $1.7 million?
