La Salle Cty right in the middle of the highest tax rates.

We also have the highest population of School Administrators. Can't swing a dead cat by the tail without hitting one in the head. For every two miles you drive in LaSalle County, you enter another School District. Then there are the Fire Protection Districts, we got more of those than Carter has pills. Police agencies... well those are abundant also. We even have Pinkerton Detective hired by Elected officials - but they get their money by shaking down the suspects. Now we want a Library District in Peru. That will increase the Library staff by several highly compensated individuals. How many townships do we have? Not municipalities... townships. More than you can shake stick at. Then we have municipalities so close together everyone thinks they are one... but in actuality they perform their completely redundant tasks independent of each other. We have more County Board members than Cook County along with a hundred or so other elected officials that serve no purpose.
Yup... "government employee" is the number one job description in LaSalle County.
And according to a recent article I posted we are also in the group of 25 Illinois counties with the highest property taxes.
And yet the N.T. just had an article in the paper about homes selling like hot cakes and so many businesses wishing to expland and they can't find local property.
Lois - that news article in the NT was a "click bait" piece. For those that don't know, many newspapers, especially around here, device "news" stories with the intention of attracting clicks on their web page. The click bait also ends up being an advertisement. Just like the "running out of room" story the other day in the NT.
The LaSalle Library is teaching people how to plant flowers. Maybe they should teach people how to grow fruits and vegetables instead. They way taxes are going, people will need that skill because they won't have money to buy food. The average person around here that works a full time and owns a house pays close to 50% of their income to taxes! From Uncle Sam to Scott Harl - the government is getting 50% of everything we make!
I'm thinking about raising chickens to supplement my food budget. Does anyone know if Scott Harl or any of those other stuffed shirts at 4th and Fulton Street have any objections to raising chickens in Peru?
12:35 PM, I would say you will be allowed to raise poultry in Peru only if you follow the "Peru way of doing business". That is you must provide a regular "tribute" to selected Peru officials in the form of fresh eggs and or a monetary campaign contribution to Boss Hog. The phonies at 4th & Fulton are happy to accept such "tributes" for political favors. After all, most of Peru's elected and appointed officials see themselves as "entitled" to a little taste of the action now and again.

I was told by a township office holder that significant salary reductions for Peru Township elected officials WILL be made per state statute this year (within the next six months) before new officers are elected in April 2017. Salaries were no reduced sooner because the statute says they can't be changed by current elected officials of any government body in Illinois for the terms currently being served. They can only set salaries for the next group of elected officials coming in. The current group of "reformer" Peru Township officials will do exactly as they "promised" they would do before they were elected. Can't wait to see how that vote plays out.
I see only two votes to lower salaries--Studer-yes, Bernabie-yes. You will need another vote. Maybe Rigby? The supervisor and clerk, assessor, road commissioner don't vote. The vote will only be a token cut and not amount to anything that would lower taxes.
I heard Eddie Mitchell is going to run for assessor. He has a BA college degree and is taking classes to be qualified to run. Also, no vote was made on lowering saleries at the March meeting. It wasn't on the agenda.

No vote for lowering salaries for those elected in township positions? What a surprise. The township is perfect example of why we need to eliminate these do nothing bodies of government. Bruce Rauner, please help us get these guys off the tax rolls. Give me one reason why this township should survive?
Studer has made it clear he would like eliminate the road part of the township. I'm sure Studer will want to cut official salaries in half. Hocking will be the only no vote to cut salaries. I''ll bet it will be a 25 to 35% cut when it's all done.
yah, those big qualifications to be tax assessor include a few 2 hour courses and some on-line training. And they need to get 70% on the test. Don't expect anybody currently in the township or the Peru Mayor to pass those great expectations.
Why the township should survive? I don't know. 20 minute meetings once a month. Its is a good place to reward those that serve as campaign chairmen for the local Peru Democrat Mayor. Currently the township has 2 of those making collectively about $70,000 a year.

its simple the road commish did nothing diff. the trustees didnt. the clerk hasnt. no one has. shut the damn thing down. and lois i noticed some made an ignorant name calling a few posts ago. please try to refrain them from doing so. i love this blog. but hate ppl who stoop to that

And all the trustees voted for it. They promised to lower elected officials salaries. All the trustee will vote yes to lower the elected official salaries. All the trustees voted to cut the office managers hours. Yep that's her job title from the Soup! Big Savings! Supervisor is still pissed off over her hours being cut. I have every newspaper article, radio add, door flier, web site articles, and all of their campaign material from each Independant. Get your facts right. I'm sick of the political lies.

I believe the assessor and road commissioner salaries are set by state law.
Any word on who the new assessor is going to be? Is Scott still trying to worm his way in to a now show job?
