A nice event supported by the Spring Valley Police. Good PR. Free stuff. It has a real meaning in city areas to promote citizen involvement in crime prevention. In our small towns its just another free stuff picnic and has no impact on crime issues. You could do more by putting out rewards to identify criminals. Nothing like a photo in the news!

I believe that any time that young people, kids, can be in a positive and fun atmosphere with the local police department is good. Maybe not so much in the type of crime I believe you are talking about.

Building trust could be another point to consider. As for looking for the bad guys no it does nothing but I don't believe that is the point of the program.
btw, Ottawa and many of the suburban areas do get in involved with this program.

Also if kids are there from poor or disadvantaged families, it gives them an opportunity to see police in a good light. I see it as an opportunity for people of all ages to learn and have fun.

I don't know if Peru has ever done this .

I heard that somebody caught a burglar climbing into their house through a window this morning. This happened in Peru at about 4:00 AM.

Well, if that is true 6:33 I surely hope the police department will send out an alert to all residents to be aware. Has anyone heard anymore on this topic?

National night out is a " national " event which takes place the first Tuesday in August. This was not dreamdt up by superhero Bernie ! Any town's police department can put this on.
