Illinois on the rocks: 'The Madigan-Cullerton budget slash 2.0'

Illinois on the rocks: 'The Madigan-Cullerton budget slash 2.0'

How can they look at themselves in the mirror? They are just pushing more and more families and new graduates out of the state of Illinois.  Anywhere but Illinois now seems to be the choice of far too many people, it is a necessity for survival.

Rockford leads state in population loss

I am sure we all suspected Illinois was loosing lots of people who can't find jobs but this report just verifies that it is fact.

Illinois’ April jobs report: Workforce shrinks, manufacturing continues to decline

Illinois’ April jobs report: Workforce shrinks, manufacturing continues to decline

Current laws in IL have the deck stacked against all cities trying to bring in jobs and it does not appear that the current Legislature has anything good in mind to change the situation.

Time for Peru residents to again start thinking about our lobbyist whose contract is up in July or August of this year. And have not heard one word about his accomplishments for the year.
Do we want to renew the contract?

Chicago Park District Continues to Limit Use of Pesticides in Parks

Chicago Park District Continues to Limit Use of Pesticides in Parks

Kudos to Chicago for providing toxic free  parks for families and children.  At least safe from toxic chemicals.

I know that the ball diamonds in Peru are sprayed with Weed and Feed and I hope that is all that is done.

Illinois’ property taxes are out of control, let taxpayers take driver’s seat

Illinois’ property taxes are out of control, let taxpayers take driver’s seat

Interesting that we are paying more than neighboring states in property taxes.

Task Force Meeting Minutes Have been removed by city from their web site.

I am not acclimated to the use of the new initialed names for the Public Works Dept. and continue to just call this the Public Works Department with which I am more comfortable.

This is the last interview with Jeff King, the asst. manager, bldg inspector, fire chief.

Minutes removed by the city and will be available in 2 weeks and I will repost. Someone put them on before approval.

The City of Peru Now has 60 Flower Planters

This amount must be an increase of about 35 planters since last year. Many of these were put in place during the Baker administration and paid for by the merchants with businesses near them. Correct me if I am wrong on this.

The planters became a bother and neglected over the years.  Didn't summer help take care of them years ago?

A few years ago then Ald. Perez gathered volunteers to rejuvenate the planters  for the beautification of Peru. Never brought a large number of residents into helping but enough to get it done and they looked really good.  Planters and also hanging baskets.  The first year the hanging baskets died from lack of watering which was done by the city and last year Perez made sure they were watered and they did better.  This year the mayor wants banners not baskets.

Who is going to continue the program? There are now 60 planters on Rte 6 and fewer people to do more.  Perez has said he will continue to plant the flowers so if you are interested in helping, the day to begin is this Saturday starting at 9 PM.

How many current aldermen will let a hand? I would be surprised if even one or two showed up to show their civic pride in Peru.

The Public Service manager D. Bernabei increased the number of planters as part of the Rte 6 improvement.  Not sure who paid for them whether it was the city or  the merchants. Whoever paid for them in now unimportant the more important question is are we going to depend on Rodney Perez or are we going to now have to pay an outside company to plant and care for the planters? Did we now need additional planters to care for when the city shuns any volunteer effort? Or maybe the answer is hire someone to do it since we continue to say we have lots of extra cash and everything is paid for by "write a check"

What should the city do to make our city more impressive?

Girl, 17, from O'Fallon, Mo., dies after music festival in Jefferson County : News

They watched for drugs but it happened anyway.  This is a good read and a warning that drugs find their way into music venues and raves.

Looks like the Hall Twp is doing what townships are supposed to be doing. Thumbs up to them.

And to those who complain that I promote or publish anything outside of Peru, I want to to say if Peru twp. was doing this, I would find out and the link would lead to their activity but Peru twp. does what?
