Since the city is very silent about the proposed sand facilities (2), I began to think about what I would like to ask our officials. I am assuming that they have already had several meetings with both White Sand and EOG.
What is your question?
I have seen the map but nothing more, but hope our officials have at least seen photos of the proposed facility as I am assuming that White Sands also has other facilities.
The first thing on my list is about truck traffic. 12 or 15 trucks per hour, does this mean on a 24 hour time frame? But now remember that EOG also has a lot of truck travel bringiing in sand for the RR transfer. Will both be using the same roads and what will the traffic pattern be and how will if affect the local auto and truck traffic? Will Peru be responsible for road unkeep? Will they build their own roads, specific to their sand transfer? Will this discourage shoppers from coming into Peru? Maybe silly questions but things I think of in the current conversation.

How do I apply for one of those jobs?
No I don't. I attended all public meetings to date on EOG and these two and have every question so far answered. Did not see you at any of them. Have you ever thought about taking that approach rather than trying to start trouble for the sake of starting trouble.
Is there the possibility of the new sand facility turning into a sand mining facility? In other words is there silica sand underneath the ground? If anyone has questions they should contact the residents that live on the osage curves. Slow down city of Peru and do your due diligence. The health and welfare of the people are depending on you.
I doubt you'll get answers from your computer. People like you are the problem today. You want to put out no effort and have the government do everything for you. News flash: FDR is no longer president and Leave it to Beaver went off the air. You need to put forth some effort in the 21st century. From reading your website I see you don't even attend your local city council meetings anymore. And then you complain you are uninformed. Who's fault is that? From reading the paper I see your city has a hearing on Dec 10. You should go to the hearing. The business people are required to answer your questions there.
9:16 AM etc.
I don't attend city council meetings because there is nothing to be leaned there as they refuse to answer questions. Evidently you are either a part of the problem or ill informed about Peru government. I do attend committee meetings when I have the time, end of story. You are rude.
Well, anon 9:16, I do attend many council meeting and I too was ill informed with regards to this topic. Sure, something might be mentioned at a meeting but no details or explanations are forth coming. I don't think the citizens of Peru should have to work so hard to find out what is happening in their town. When new things are lst presented the details are very vague until the action is in full force. Then we hear some details (when it's already too late). Does the average Joe have to attend each and every meeting our council has (and don't forget we cannot go into closed sessions which are abundant these days). I too firmly believe many, many topics are discussed in great detail in these closed sessions and then we, the general public, read about it in the paper.
8:10 AM
Evidently you know everyone that blogs and since I use my name which is something you did not have the courtesy to do, you keep track of all of us and know when we go to meetings or not. Hope you enjoy peeking out from behind the door so no one sees you and knows what you are like. Just like the way that Peru conducts their business. Got to love the way some people conduct taxpayer business. Watch out changes are coming from the top down as people are tired ofyour way of minding the store.
This isn't even in LaSalle county let alone city limits of Peru ! Why are we fighting over it . The map clearly shows its in Bureau county .
12:14 PM
That is what I thought but Peru is annexing the Bureau Cty property which as I have been told will remain in Bureau but we can develop it by annexation. This is really one topic the city should have explained to its citizens.
8:20, if it turns out that there is a plan to mine sand at the Peru facility - all the better. More jobs and more economic activity! But I don't think there is recoverable silica deposits here. Anyway, we will soon have technology available that will make most of the coal in Illinois profitable to mine again! That is truly the best news! A huge resurgence in coal mining in this area is probably only a decade away. I bet they start reopening some of the old mines for testing in a year or two! Sand Mining AND Coal Mining will definitely get the economic life blood flowing in the Illinois Valley again!
missed you at the Christmas open house and tree lighting. Very sad you now boycott even things for the kids.
I was at the tree lighting today. It was very nice. Unfortunately not many people showed up. I hope it grows in the future.
Hope what grows , the tree ? Its a $1600 fake tree . Like our fake city leaders .
I too was at the tree lighting ceremony and the sad part of it is the tree is too big for such a small space. There is not enough room to house it, a chorus, the aldermen and their spouses, the parents of the choral members, and residents who wish too attend.
I was at the Sappy Holidays tree lighting and it was very unorganized in such a small space with such a gaudy oversized tree. My impression watching the elected officials who were there is that they felt the event was for held to honor themselves and their families. The huge egos in that tight space made it very stuffy and uncomfortable for all. The phony excuse about Harl's absence was poorly rehearsed and I doubt there would have been room for him in there anyway. Another self-serving, self-promoting event orchestrated by Peru officials.
Decorations are up, city streets are lite and the holidays season is upon us but yet political atmosphere is so negative that one wants to throw up.
Rather than sharing to all, Peru has elected representation that wants to honor itself with a $1699.00 Christmas Tree.
Self-serving, self-promoting, self, self, self etc. description of Peru City Officials who are only serving themselves and Christmas as a commercial event during Christmas are not going to recieve my vote next April. Two things you can count on is kthat Xmas is always a great time of year and local city politics is ba-humbug all year.
Anon 7:25 AM Is it to embarassing to tell where they placed the miseltoe at Sappys tree lighting?
@1:53 PM No those involved would not be embarassed because they
are too far out of touch, arrogant and ignorant and the rest of us are to disguisted with those involved.
Mayor Harl knew the way to go in 2009 when he ran under the promise of change.
How many aldermen did it take to light the tree?
Hopefully the tree is artificial and Ald. Sappy has been informed that it is not to be discarded after the holidays or he will have to replace it with his own $1699.
How many aldermen did it take to light the tree? Was C,PFD in attendance to make sure none of the aldermen tryed to light it with matches?
C of PFD and C of PPD were not at the tree lighting. Were either C's at the Christmas parade?
Yes C of PPD was.
No they weren't most likely because they wouldn't get paid extra for being there.
Paid extra, have you seen the pay they are already getting. Way, way too much for a small village of 10K.
I am all for the growth. Just make sure they do a traffic study by sap brothers , that intersection is a death trap
Yes the intersection by Sapp Brothers is dangerous. From what is being said about last nights meeting this area was discussed and studied but the city engineer has not complied the results and will not have them until next week. Similar to much of this meeting the cart was waiting for the horse to arrive with necessary information and decisions were hopefully going to be made without the information. Mr. Bassaly justifiably delayed a vote until Dec. 17, 6:45 PM. Preseently a bill of goods was attempted to be sold immediately to Peru without evidence of any gains and evidence of mostly losses and a tipping fee which as most other numbers are yet to be determined.
Credit must be acknowledged to Perus neighboring citizens from Utica and the Osage Curve area who expressed that fact that White Sands unfortunely pretended that they would be a outstanding neighbor but upon getting their foot in the door have been a detrement to their community and that Peru should be aware of the difficulties this corporation has created for them.
