Peru Planning Commission Approves Sand Terminal in North Industrial Park Off The Plank Road

It was suggested I open this topic up on the blog as residents might be interested in offering their opinions. An article is in tonights News Tribune, our local paper, and there is a good writeup on what we can expect if this business is allowed to develop. Location seems questionable as there are nice motels and shopping just adjacent to the area. And also this is near the location of the TIF currently in dispute with Dimmick. Sounds like there will be a great amount of heavy truck traffic transporting the sand in for transport on the Plank Road. I don't believe they stated where the sand will be coming from and do we assume travel will be along I-80..

After unloading sand the trucks would travel east on E. First Road, trucks would then travel 1.5 miles on Unytite Drive and Route 251 back to I-80.

Nearby RTE 251 already has more than its share of local traffic and yes local accidents in the area just north of I-80. After reading the report, I still have questions about exactly what the impact on the area would be.

This is good news for Peru and the Illinois Valley. We need these jobs and we need more industrial development like this.

What paper is the blog reading? My News Tribune says the terminal will be on Plank Rd not 251.

Read the entire article as trucks will exit by 251 to 80.

lois you are so misinformed. This is not adjacent to hotels etc nor the area that is part of the lawsuit. I was told you did not attend and since Rod Steve Travis Linda or Sherry did not attend I wonder who you talked to? The mayor and other alderman were there for 4 hours so they have the facts. Did you talk to one of them? If not who keeps giving you incorrect information?

I am not sure that a medical marijuana dispensary should go one block north of Shooting Park between Marquette and Pulaski. If this is going to the full council for a vote will it be at this Monday's meeting?? I think some calls to the aldermen should be made. I hope they do their homework and not rush into this decision. There are many questions that need to be asked and answered.

Adjacent may have been the wrong word, but my meaning was that the truck traffic on Unytite Drive and down Rte 251 certainly would be going past and near to all the mentioned places. Perhaps you did not even read the article let alone attend the meeting. It didn't matter if I went to the meeting because it appears that you did not either and you see fit to criticize me. I can well imagine who you are anyway.

I just hope the council thinks long and hard before they make a final decision on the sand terminal and the marijuana dispensary locations. I hope questions are asked, long range effects are considered, water run-off is addressed, wear and tear on roads, etc. etc. In my mind these are both decisions that would be interesting to citizens and would be great subjects for "open" committee as a whole topics. Ones where the public could participate if desired.

Somebody should look up the owner of the vacant lot just east of the automobile dealer (I'm assuming that is the proposed location of the Marijuana Store). That piece of information will tell you if that location will be seriously considered. You see, that is how things are determined in Peru.

1:10 I believe the location of the proposed dispensary is the building that is own by the planning commission board member who just recently had it rezoned B5 business commercial. It is located directly between Doug Schweickert's building and the new Stough group homes.

just what we need. People buying legal pot in a primarily residential area. Leave it up to the baby boomers to come up with that plan.

This law needs to be changed to allow persons with a marijuana card to grow their own. Face it. The only reason Illinois is allowing medical marijuana is so the state can tax the bejesus out of it - turning a five dollar product into a fifty dollar product. For no reason! If allowed, this stuff grows wild.
