I listened to the video recording of the meeting last night just tonight. When Mayor Harl appointed the co superintendents of the public works dept., he stated it would be no longer than 6 months or July 1. Discussions have taken place about the difficulties of finding qualified people for positions in the city available now and in the near future, namely Superintendent of Public Works and Superintendent of the Electric Department. If this is a fact then a statement made last night by Alderman Waldorf of the Public Works Committee doesn't make much sense.
If it is difficult to find the right people for these positions and you might have a long search and maybe involve head hunters and lots of advertising in professional journals, you don't want to limit your search time. Yet last night Ald. Waldorf said he wanted to put off for a month or month and a half the search for a replacement for Sean Mikos. That would move the time up to the beginning of March at least.
The current managers of the department are doing what they can for now but certainly we need people qualified in those fields as soon as possible. UNLESS we are now delegating much of the decisions and plans to Chamlin. I would hate to think that the Public Works Committee is now making decisions on what qualifications the new hire should bring to the table. Since the city just went through the process less than a year ago, everything should be fresh in their minds as to how to handle this process once again. Any thoughts on why?

So Waldorf just said he wanted to put it off but didn't give an explanation? And none of the other aldermen questioned why?

Listen to the video and see if you come to the same conclusion. You can drag the bar across, it is about 3/4's of the way through the mtg.
We should not hire replacments at all. Instead, fire everyone and outsource the entire department to a private company.
According to the video Mr. Waldorf is quoted as saying "the Public Works committee in not ready to discuss hiring a SPW or engineer and that it may be a month or more before they need to or CAN and with the right information." What does he mean before "they need to or CAN?" And what is the "right information" they could possibly be waiting for? They just went through this process several months ago. Something isn't right here and I cannot believe even one alderman questioned the delay. Are they aware of something but citizens are once again denied the truth? Just curious!
11:15 should say "even one alderman didn't question"
i think mr waldorffffff needs to go with the rest of harl cronies . get ride of all and vote in all new ! thats the best for peru !!!! LIMIT ALL COUNCIL AND MAYOR TO 4 YEARS , THAT WOULD SOLVE ALL PERU'S PROBLEMS !!!!!!
They probably want to wait until they find out what the Grand Jury has to say ha ha ha :)
The Public Works Committee will meet Monday Jan. 20 at 10:00 AM in one of the city office rooms. If you want to know what is on the agenda go to the city website and review or download as I do. I try to attend all. It is very rare that citizens show up for these meetings. If you want to express yourself about the PW come and let them know. No TV and no microphone. Just remember "A question not asked is never answered." I ask questions. Mike Hart
you rock Mike, and please run for mayor in 2017!
