BIKE TREK: Paper Trail -- Bloomington-Normal paths honor Constitution - My Web Times

BIKE TREK: Paper Trail -- Bloomington-Normal paths honor Constitution - My Web Times Speaking of bicycle paths this an article about the ultimate type of bike path. I have friends who have family that use this and you ride around and beneath traffic and not with it providing a safe bike path.

I have always been a proponent of incorporating the "ravines" which snake their way through Peru into the Parks & Recreation system with the ultimate goal of creating "Greenways" which would contain walking and cycling paths. I have expressed this notion to more than one alderman on more than one occasion without recieving any real feedback. Just imagine the potential of this unused acreage. When you consider the fact that the proposed Kaskaskia Trail would come off of the I&M Canal towpath and down onto Water Street where it would be an ideal spot to link up with a branch trail leading up into Peru via the ravine area at the east end of the Westclox property. If not there then furhter west into the next ravine. The city most likely already has easements through most of those properties for existing storm and sanitary sewers. I hope the Chamlin feasibility study proposes incorporating some or all of these neglected Greenways into their proposal. It could make a good selling point to score some grant money from the Illinois Dept. of Natural Resources and or the Safe Routes to Schools Program.

What a wonderful article Lois. Wish we would have had someone around here that had the foresight to compose something of this nature.
