What has happened to Peru Downtown Redevelopment?

That should be an enphasis for this administration. We need to have some leadership on these issues. We need to get the ball rolling and maybe some positive growth. I know there is a development commision in place but have not heard from them recently. I remember that the overall contribution for the city was estimated at 20 million when the 20 year plan was developed many years ago.
10:09 a.m. - I hope you're not suggesting that the city invested 20 million into the downtown area. I recall a bond sale for the purpose of aquiring property and constructing the Mirror Building. The total amount I do not recall, but it was not 20 million. Maybe about 4 or 6 million. Total to buy land and build the Mirror building was maybe 2 million. I wonder about the rest of it.
Steve, You may want to check but several streets were going to be closed for additional plazas and the city was going to level additional buildings. The problem with the downtown is that an anchor store would need much more room than what is currently there.
You may have surmised that the West Plaza which I scanned is one of those that never developed, only because after all the plans were put into print, it was pointed out to the developers that we should not close Fulton St as it would cause traffic to travel another 2 blocks west to be able to turn north as St Joseph school had already blocked out the next street. The picture came from what was called The Master Plan. The East Plaza was developed pretty much as the planners envisioned but a permanent anchor store never developed. I did not find another Plaza in their plan but I will go through it again.
The new business makes that block of La Salle look really good and a good start for bringing back First Street. Sure would like to see the historical Hotel Kaskaskia rehabbed soon. Congratulations on the new business.
La Salle has a very good Mayor as compared to Peru. It is very plain. Proof is in the making of La Salle. First , In Peru we are obsessed with; Proof for Peru is which employee can we get rid of or remove from the payroll. Second, Peru spends spends spends , yesterdays city council meeting is proof of failure to understand ,THE CITY IS BROKE. No money but we continue to talk to spend, roads, outdoor pool, library(looking for more money ??)

I have come to the realization, "Don't expect this Mayor to do anything for the city of Peru."

Does anyone know if the new Emporium in La Salle is the one from Peru's Mirror bldg or an entirely new business? Just curious.
I don't think there is any connection to the Emporium for Men which did business from the Mirror Building.
The Emporium for Men in La Salle is the same business that WAS in Peru.
