This blog is maintained for the sole purpose of allowing the people of Peru and those interested in the cities of the Illinois Valley to express their views.
“It doesn’t take a majority to win, just a tireless minority that will keep starting brush fires in the mind and hearts of their fellow men.” Samuel Adams
I, for one, do not believe that they are corrupt but I do believe their intentions are not focused mainly on the people they work for - the citizens of Peru. I don't think they like to be informed or told about things that citizens witness on a daily basis that need to be taken care of (i.e. neglected yards, summer helpers riding around doing nothing, picnic tables that need repair, etc.) To me it seems as though their main focus is on things that benefit city hall not the town. My opinion.
To 9:25 PM, Nobody ever "seriously" stated the phony elected officials "get rich". I'm glad one of the current eight are going to be gone. They (and the phony mayor) should all be replaced as soon as possible as far as I'm concerned. There needs to be a regular influx of newly elected officials in Peru. To that end, there needs to be Term Limits in Peru. OK 9:25 PM, what do you think of Term Limits for those elected officials you are so eager to defend? Can you honestly say that these know-nothing Peru officials should remain in office for more than two four year terms? Speak up!
Sure you can have term limits. I thought you had those every 4 years. We have some very good elected officials that I would like to keep and we have some that may need to be replaced. Its all about the quality. In government agencies that have 100 reps and 50 senators you probably have a valid argument to have term limits, you have demographics that rigs the voting areas and you have enough of experienced officials to carry out plans and understand the roles. In smaller units like LaSalle or Peru you may be very fortunate to keep some experienced, educated public servants. Its quality and let the voters decide.
11:18 it is 9:25 here to answer your questions and then some.
1. Perhaps you don't mean that seriously, but there have been people on here who talk about them "lining their pockets" and stupid crap like that. It is clear that in the past there are people who read things on here as gospel and they have not clue what is really going on. That is why I like talking about actual facts.
2. For the record, I am 100 percent in favor of term limits for any paid elected office. My preference would be two terms for any office holder, including alderman and mayor and absolutely the state legislature. You agree?
3. Obviously from number two, you know I couldn't less about any alderman keeping or losing their seat. I think we could use a new mayor, but it won't happen unless one viable opposition candidate runs. If three or more run, the incumbent will almost always win.
4. If we applied my maximum two term limit scenario, then most of the current aldermen would fall under that time frame if I am not mistaken. Aside from one or two, most have not been there that long. So clearly my answer to your question is "no", I don't think they should whether the are brilliant or stupid. Two terms and you are done. Again, there are people on here who think that all of these people are "insiders." I do know for a fact that the council is far more diverse than people understand.
5. So you see, we agree on just about everything, but where you err is when you lie. If an alderman lies, I'm calling them out. When you lie, I will do the same and when you continue to talk about all eight as if they are exactly the same and you continue to call them names as though you are in seventh grade, then you lose all credibility. They are not the same. They are not "corrupt." Some or all may make mistakes, but if you were holding office for a term or two, some people would disagree with your decisions as well.
My point is that I am NOT here defending anyone, nor am I a cheerleader, nor do I care who keeps a stupid seat. I care about the TRUTH and the more people make ridiculous accusations with ZERO proof of anything, the less time we are spending holding people accountable with things that actually matter.
This is what has killed the blog. Wild crazy talk and virtually none of it pans out to mean anything. Sadly that cheapens and takes away from what could have been a good forum. So now we have Facebook where at least people have to show themselves to comment.
a degree in criminal justice and customer service experience, heard of degrees in criminal justice but customer service experience is a new one. This is a joke?
Bernabei had his POM POMS out while doing some cheerleading for the new employee hired to patrol for grass clippings. An overwhelming success we are to beleive. How lucky we are that everything these Peru officials touch turns instantly to gold. I'm still trying to figure out what makes this unnecessary position such a resounding success story. I have to assume it is successful because they "say so" and that will justify changing the position to "full-time with benefits" very soon. That will then result in another patronage position being created and more votes from family and friends of the fortunate full-time employees. Then, low and behold that patronage position will soon require, wait for it, AN ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT becuase of the unbeleivabl;e success story that this code enforcement position has become. How much success can they stand at 4th & Fulton? I think the honest answer to that question is "as much as they can get away with".

ha ha... typical. now the Boss appoints a new "incumbent" to run in April
Of course it is actually his job to appoint a person for the position. And he publicly stated he hopes people apply for the vacancy. There's that.
Aren't you glad one of the eight corrupt people are gone? I mean they are all corrupt, right?
Why anyone would want this job and put up with the crap is beyond me. Oh wait I forgot. They all get rich after they are appointed.

They should appoint somebody from Oglesby. Anybody from Peru that is seriously interested in the job is easily influenced by cronyism.
