How will this affect you? This is over half again what you are currently paying in state income taxes. Will the state continue to hand out grants even though we don't have the money to maintain a functioning state government. What were there other choices.
Time to leave and attend the Finance meeting in Peru.

I was unable to get to the meeting after all but found out tonight at the city council meeting that the Finance mtg. was cancelled due to lack of a quorum.

Why do we even need a finance meeting? After this article in the paper regarding the state and after attending the city council meeting I'm convinced our governments (on all levels) don't know how to survive within a budget. They just keep spending, spending, spending and when they get in trouble they raise our taxes and once again tighten our survival budgets. Who do we turn to when we don't have enough money to pay our bills or fix our homes or put food on our tables? Needs have to be prioritized and wants need to be shelved. During these hard economic times such luxuries as swimming pools need to be put on hold. It angers me that we pursue a grant for a pool from a government that is more in trouble than we are locally. It's still our money and there are more important things to spend it on than unnecessary grants for pools or parks.

Reading the news tribune today about the city council meeting contents, I was wondering if anyone reading this blog also may be curious,"where were the Mayor Harl's comments at the meeting"? Was he silent AGAIN showing his excellent leadership skills !

What are we paying or should we say Why are we paying Mayor Harl to just warm the Council's center Seat and to announce "Present" ??????

The city is falling apart or should we say "Rome is burning and Mayor Harl is playing the violin".

I bet there will be comments on this blog supporting the Great decisions and actions this Mayor is taking ,while the city is falling apart.

LEADERSHIP IS WHAT WE NEED, WHEN WHEN WHEN.......

If you are curious as to whether the Mayor spoke or not, I suggest you encourage your aldermen to have a videotape of the meetings so you can see for yourself. Of course he spoke, I heard, I was there.
Stay tuned I will be making some comments about the beginning of the decline of Peru in a new post and it did not begin in the last 2 years.

Lois don't have to make the post. We've heard it on this blog soooooo many times. Blame the past administration. This candidate ran on change for Peru. So where's the change. It has only gotten worse.
We need a mayor that will do something !!!!! If he can't, get out of the way then let's get someone in that will.
What did he say at the meeting? I know that if he said to the aldermen, We need to control spending to x dollars this year or I will veto. We need to find ways to save money, and here is what I suggest and let's vote on it. We need to get the plans and numbers done so we can actually repair roads this year and I'm giving you till xxx date or I'll make the decision for you, etc, etc. The paper would have published it.
It's crap to just say the mayor spoke at the meeting.

To 6:09 p.m. - Your leadership rant is getting a little old. You can keep beating that drum if it provides good therapy for you. I'm sure you recall the old saying that best addresses your claims. I'll start it and you finish the rest.

Anon 6:09 Why don't you question the newspaper at to why they didn't publish the mayor's comments? Why don't you ask your aldermen why they don't want the meetings televised so you could hear for yourself? Finally, why don't you attend the meetings and get first hand knowledge of how your government is being run by your 8 representatives (aldermen)? It's easy to sit back and do nothing and make negative comments. Get involved!!

It sounds to me like you would rather keep your hands over your eyes and ears, kind of like the famous 3 monkeys. I don't go to the council meetings to give you or anyone else a comment by comment replay. Wait a few weeks and you can get the minutes which will be available. Again don't depend upon the NT to give you the information that came from the meeting. There was a lot said that did not make the news, maybe they thought it was unimportant or maybe they did not know that you wanted to read it. And I am NOT the local NT reporter.
Change for Peru is the name of a blog and was not the Mayors slogan during his campaign.

Lois, can you list just 3 three major accomplishments mayor Harl has achieved since taking office? Significant accompishments for the city, I think it might difficult! Please list.

Peru Town Forum said...

It won't be difficult but are you talking financial, infrastructure, TIF, new business or what?

THE MAYOR HAS HAD SOME VERY GOOD IDEAS, BUT THE ALDERMEN FOR SOME REASON WON'T GIVE HIM THE TIME OF DAY. THEY RESENT HIM, AND THEY WILL VOTE DOWN, ANYTHING HE SUGGESTS. I'VE BEEN AT MEETINGS WHERE HE HAS PUT SOMETHING BEFORE THEM, AND THEY ALWAYS VOTE 8-0. HOW CAN YOU LEAD A BUNCH OF MEN, THAT STILL MEET WITH BAKER ALMOST DAILEY FOR SOME OF THEM. UNTIL WE GET RID OF SOME OF THE CURRENT ALDERMEN, IT WILL BE THE SAME OLD STUFF. GET OUT AND VOTE IN SOME NEW INTELLIGENCE., AND PEOPLE WHOM CAN THINK FOR THEMSELVES.

12:49 You said a mouth full. There are still 8 members of the old regime sitting at the head of the table. We need some new blood, some new faces, some new ideas, and some representatives that we can talk to and that will listen.

Lois you name it! What accomplisments has the mayor done since taking office, that has helped improve the lives of the working citizen in Peru!

You know I could come back at you and tell you the same thing that any other Mayor has done to improve the lives of the citizens in Peru. I have lived here for a long time and I don't ever recall my life being better as a result of a Mayoral accomplishments. Usually the only people in the past who have benefited were those close to the Mayor or his friends and they received nice financial benefits plus.
Now I do know that Mayor Harl is not giving any financial bonuses etc even though there are some employees who could work a bit harder for the money they make. BUT nothing new with that.

But please make up your mind, first you tell me no don't bother and then you are back saying you want to know the accomplishments. Make up your mind.

Please list accomplishments thank you.

I will but I want to be specific, so it will be a while before I get it all together and may make it a post instead of an answer to you.

Lois: Maybe if ANON 8:50 is that anxious he (she) could make an appointment with Mayor Harl and talk to him one on one. I am sure he would be more than willing to answer his (her) questions. He is a very approachable Mayor.
