Letters to the editor: There has to be a better place for sand facility than Plank Road - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

Letters to the editor: There has to be a better place for sand facility than Plank Road - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

Everyone who drove by the signs on Plank Road and Ladd Road thought that “Schools Subdivision” meant residential subdivision. Eugene Hodges, of Northern White Sand LLC a subsidiary of Eagle Materials of Dallas, Texas, and their attorney, John Duncan, admitted that they purposely worded it that misleading way.' QUOTE from Patricia Lange Grant, property owner and resident.

This should throw up red flags about this company wanting into Peru! When you start with deceit, where do you go from there?

This is why we just can't get economic development that creates real jobs in the Illinois Valley.

I think that area would be an ideal location for a Hog Farm. Once this sand thing blows away - ha ha - I really hope somebody looks in to starting up a commercial hog breeding operation. Maybe even a slaughtering and packing operation also.

Being that only red flags have been raised to the wind in reference to the proposed sand development North of Peru it appears that further inquires and studies need to be conducted before any further votes are taken. If this results in a threat of pulling out - GOODBYE!

The only people raising red flags about this are the ones that are emotionally opposed to this industry. These people are selfish headline surfers and would rather see a child starve than for somebody to drill an oil well.

Instead of a hog farm, I think we should open a plant to process the sludge from Chicago waste water treatment plants into fertilizer. Better yet, we need a new landfill. Maybe somebody will open one of those.
LaSalle County isn't good for much else. If we are going to actively discourage job growth, we should definitely do something to force people to move away. As it stands now, those on welfare and social security outnumber the people working a full time job.
Well folks, time to go smoke my afternoon medical joint and go play the machines at the Susie Q.

Anon 12:37PM Where do you see or have seen anyone in this area drilling a oil well. I have not seen any children starving either. If someone cannot find a job to support their family they should take a job which is available as the rest of us have done and build up from there. They will find it is musch easier to get a job when you already have one.
If a person is having difficulties and needs food for their family I suggest they go to the township on Peoria Street and ask for financial assistance and advise. This is part of their responsibility.

4:59, The people that are raising all the commotion about the various operations involved with sand mining in LaSalle County are generally against FRACKING. These people generally put the well being of animals and rocks above that of a human. That is the meaning of the post - "they" would rather see people die than drill an oil well.
And yes - I am a firm believer that most hard core environmentalists would like to see the human population reduced to a minimum and forced into enclaves to allow most of the planet to "return to nature."

4:59 - so you are advocating that the government just hands out charity instead of clearing the way and allowing business to develop the economy and promote job growth? My god man! That smacks of communism.
Did you know that people receiving government assistance in LaSalle County is at an all time high? Did you know that there are over 750 families in the Illinois Valley that utilize the food pantry? Did you know that families receiving power / gas bill subsidies have never been higher?
People are hungry in the Illinois Valley my friend. So instead of creating real jobs, your solution is to send them to the township for a handout? You are obtuse! Oh... and by the way, the township only has assistance adults without children that do not qualify for any other government program.
This is what progressive liberalism does folks - instead of trying to put people to work, they want to expand the welfare state.
No thank you! I'll deal with a little sand blowing in the wind once in a while. I'll deal with the truck traffic. I'll deal with the noise. I wont deal with obtuse people that put more importance on Starved Rock Country elitist tourism than real jobs for the local population.

9:31, you forgot to mention that a large number of people receiving government aid around here are working. They are working in retail and hospitality related occupations. They are working in jobs serving the elitists and making squat.
The elitist, leftist, progressives will tell us that we must mandate wage increases for these jobs - thus increasing the cost of living for everyone. At the same time they put up road blocks industrial development that could create jobs that pay good. The minimum wage jobs in retail and hospitality industries should be second jobs or starter jobs - not the main job for the family.

Can we please stop with the leftist, progressive, socialist, communist comments? One party is not responsible for all the woes you face. I listen to know one who aligns by party and always points at the other side as being the problem.

I hate everything!

10:53, we will stop commenting on the leftists, progressives, socialists, and communists when they stop trying to push their agenda and let the hard working citizens go about their business unhindered by increasingly oppressive policies.

It's the stupid labels from uneducated people like you that take away all of your credibility. I probably don't disagree with you as much politically as you might think, as I am a conservative. But calling democrats communists turns your argument into a joke. Name calling does nothing. Put together an actual coherent argument for better policy and you will be the first blogger someone might actually listen to.

The Alderman and Mayor should be and should have taken a lot of blogs seriously though out the years of this forum. The reason they didn't and don't is because they don't want the truth or pretend the truth isn't the truth. Call it like it is. A spade is a spade. A liar is a liar. A person I know who was in a public place a while back was getting the stare down from city officials. Wonder why this was? Maybe because the person being stared at knows a lot of truth about what really has gone on at city hall. And this person was not so ever intimidated by the childish, immature staring that could possibly be construed as silent bullying/tactics. I was at this public place when this happened.

1:46, now isn't calling someone "uneducated" name calling? How do you know what my education is? I happen to hold a degree in Business. Calling someone "uneducated" is an elitists way of dismissing a person's views and implying that they are unimportant. Elitists have a way of doing that - especially out here in the hinterland. You / They don't care that people need to have gainful employment and many of us don't really care if it interrupts your bike rides, nature walks, and drinks on the veranda.

There are good intelligent thoughtful blogs posted on this site, the problem that the Mayor and Council pay very little attention to the blog is because there are three times the number of idiotic stupid remarks without any thought going into the post . If you would get off of the name calling and remarks made without knowing facts, maybe they would take notice.

Annon 2:22PM Please don't stop now that my thrist or knowledge has been awoken. Who were the politicians and who were they staring at and where was the place?

Anonymous said...

8:19, I am 9:31.
I'm hardly finishing last - I'm doing quite well despite the lack of opportunity here. But, just because I'm doing OK doesn't mean that I don't have feeling for the thousands of people in our area that would be better off moving to South Dakota, Indiana, Texas, or some other business friendly state. The point I am trying to make is:
1. We have an opportunity for a business to locate here and bring some good paying jobs.
2. The people that are opposed to this are, in my opinion, uncaring. They want this area to remain primarily agriculture with a little tourism thrown in. They are opposed to heavy industry which brings good employment for a wide variety of people. Furthermore, at least one commenter stated that if you can't find a job, the township will give you money to buy food for your family.

Yes there was a comment that stated if you can't find a job, the township will give you money to buy food for your family. This was very kind of the person who made this comment because the township does not acknowledge that they have a responsibility to help unfortunate souls.
Most people believe that they are only responsible for a short span of blacktop maintenance and drawing unrealistic wages from tax money. To most they are another layer of unnecessary political occupations which would not be missed if eliminated. Proof of how unnecessary it is is that it is a secondary occupation for everyone that has a high paying job in the township. The wages of Peru Township are unbelievable per actual working hour.

Anonymous said...

1:11, the wages for any government job with the possible exception of enlisted military are disproportionate with the actual work they do. Among the most highly overpaid people in this area are school administrators and college teachers.

10:13 I compliment you on your truthfulness but must inform you that you are way to soft hearted in expression!

the only people who are getting screwed at the township are the people actually doing some work!
