Peru expects splash pad to be finished for summer 2018

Peru expects splash pad to be finished for summer 2018

There should be a lot of questions asked by the population about this project in a city the size of Peru 10,0016 (2014) and probably under the 10,000 now. Don't get me wrong, a splashpad is a wonderful idea but the size and making it the biggest and best in Illinois leaves me wondering why.

Ottawa has a splashpad, have you seen it? The next closest one that I am aware of is Chillicothe. Of course all the other local cities like LaSalle, Oglesby, Ottawa, Princeton, Mendota and Spring Valley have swimming pools.

This splashpad will be free to all, I assume so there will be no return on the project unless we are counting on sales tax revenue coming into the city from all the visitors.

Does anyone really believe that people will come from far and wide to see a splash pad and stay long enough to increase our sales tax revenue?

Well go figure, Lois is opposed to the splash pad. It sounds to me as if the city has enough money to build this. And it sounds like there is more to it than just a splash pad. The paper indicated walking paths, shelters, and more. I just don't understand, every time something happens in Peru, why can't people just be happy about it. I think this is a terrible example for our kids, you are teaching them to be complainers and negative. Why can't you look at the positives and be happy your community is doing something progressive? No other community in your area will have such a nice play area for kids of all types of ability, special needs and all. I'm actually impressed the city is finally talking about something other than roads, sidewalks, sewers, sidewalks, roads, sewers, water pipes, roads.

When did I say I was opposed I have been hoping for one for at least 4 or 5 years but never think it would be this extreme. Will we have people who will take care of the upkeep? You do know what happened with the ice skating rink and if you are in doubt, go see it?

6:49 Nobody is opposed to the splash pad and no where do I see where Lois indicated such. Many just wonder why, after so many years in the making, it appears to be moving toward a reality. Many wonder if Mr. Happ had not made his donation would it still be on the burner? Many wonder if this weren't an election year, with competition, would it still be on the burner? And, I believe many wonder why such an elaborate set up and why do we have to refer to it as the best in Illinois? And, a wall with baseball history on it? I believe many would rather save that expense and add it to a pool fund.

There is no question the project was scheduled to coincide with the mayoral election to benefit Harl. The timing is a scam as is so much else about the Harl administration. What voters need to remember is that Harl promised to serve only two terms. That is much more important than a splash pad.

So, you're for the splash pad as long as Harl doesn't benefit from it politically? That makes no sense.

It took so long because the state took the grant away and then gave it back. Read the newspaper. Be informed.

You're right about the grant but that had nothing to do with halting the progress of the splash pad. The city was not willing or ready to put forward that kind of money until Mr. Happ got the ball rolling. And, if you don't believe this is also a result of this being an election year with competition you're not informed.

Its not the good stuff that worries me....Peru looks to be effective. Its the other stuff about other candidates that gives me a chill. Social media and weekly articles and the new LaSalle County web site for court records that really gives you thoughts on candidates backgrounds. Police records, lawsuits, incriminating photos, failure to file required reports, bill collectors. Please tell me all this is untrue about some of the candidates.

and then we have the really scary ones who are not elected but appointed and have the ability to "hide" things and mess with other persons lives and get away with it!

If you vote because of what you read on social media, you are a bigger problem then the fake news.

Most current elected politicians from the top down are using Social Media to reach voters who are their constituents and beyond. I read and communicate across this country with like minded people with whom I share political and/or moral views via social media. It is a smart move and cost effective. As far as fake news and the current blather going on from the guy in the W. H., it is going to backfire on him and anyone using that term. News is looked at from different points of view and everyone has a different way of interpreting it. It is your responsibility to determine if you believe what you are reading or listening to. You at least in this time of the history of this country free to access your news where you want and to interpret and share with whom every you want.
If you method of communicating and getting news is thru social media, no one should have any problem with it. If you are getting your news from the local newspaper, you should know you are getting biased news about our city, not false but biased to how they want you to think and believe news.
I understand that the last video of a council mtg available to view is November. Unless it has been updated since a week ago.
