Hmmmm. I wonder where this idea came from.

"The electric light fund is strong, so strong that Hylla would like to put some of it into secure investments. He says he doesn’t want to move the money to another fund because they would need that money to repair or replace electrical infrastructure if there were a disaster."

It is apparent Hylla has become the Spin-Master for this administration. I do not trust him or anything he spins about Peru finances. He has become just as political as the mayor and aldermen who are more concerned about appearances than they are about integrity and facts. He needs to be replaced by a qualified City Manager. Until then we will never have a honest accounting of Peru's finances.

Wow! I decided to mix things up a little bit today, so I listened to the Ottawa AM radio station. OMG - they actually talk about news! The local stuff is more about the eastern part of the county, but the Illinois coverage sounded good. And I didn't have to listen the host drone on about high school sports or vague snippets of news with barely enough content to fit on a fortune cookie. And no "funny" little openings either.
Since our local radio has taken to providing baby boomer music most of the time and has a policy of not providing substantive reporting on local issues, I think I'll make the change permanent.

Read between the lines and you realize that Hylla is basically admitting that the mismanagement of Peru's finances continue un-checked. Now Hylla teels us that we need "more, more, more" tax revenue. Instead of stressing efficiency and initiating operatinfg strategies in all departments to "reduce" operating costs, Hylla sees the only option as "Feeding the Beast".
Hylla presented nothing more than some advance propaganda designed to plant the seed of the inevitable increases in taxes or rates for electric and or water/sewer. Hylla has become the "Bag-Man" for the aldermen who are afraid to speak in open meeting about a poor financial outlook. After all, It's Always Sunny in Peru, right?
Dixon's Annual Audit revealed no problems for 20 + years while their coffers were being pillaged.
Who are the residents of Peru to trust? Not politicians. Of that I am convinced

Just heard Mr. Hylla's speech on the radio. Why is it that every time a branch of government overspends their immediate solution is to raise taxes? Why not cut the budget? Why not quit buying new vehicles? Let's quit letting employees take gas guzzling vehicles home. Let's get more fuel efficient vehicles. Do the aldermen really need matching shirts? Do we really need to water flowers on Sunday and empty park garbage cans on Saturday (O.T.)? Spend what you have! Balance the budget! Don't raise taxes property taxes you just raised sales tax!

I quit listening to WLPO when they changed to the music format. The little bit of news they provide is not worth the effort of trying to figure out when they will broadcast it. They are never on schedule. And forget about the morning show. Four minutes of talk followed by 4 minutes of sports, followed by 2 minutes of headlines, followed by five minutes of commercials. If they don't have enough commercials to fill in the five minutes, they just repeat them. They never dig deep into anything, barely scratch the surface on any local issues.

Maybe the city can ask noonan for the money revenued from the concerts that she personally puts in hers.

Boss Harl must have gotten the memo from Rahm Emanuel and Mr. Quinncometax.

Maybe it would be wise to revisit the homestead exemption on property tax and let the babyboomers start paying their FULL share.

Thanks for the tip on WCMY, they have really improved their station and I am enjoying them while working at the computer.

I do not want Ms.. Noonans profits. I would like a ticket booth for auditing all the money on the cash concessions. If we only got the liquor and sales tax as we are spposed to, the sales tax bump for those weekends/months could be seen.

We are supposed to be getting much more tourist dollars those weeks. Why don't the sales tax revenues support it? I guess the concert goers don't spend like they do at real concert venues, since they are only coming to support the charity.

Sorry. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

WLPO IS GOING DOWNHILL JUST LIKE OUR NEWSTRIBUNE. IT USED TO BE A FAIRLY DECENT RADIO STATION. BUT I'M SICK OF THE MUSIC ALL DAY LONG.
PUT ON SOME NEWS OR SOME KIND OF TALK SHOW. THE MUSIC IS AWFUL.

That's right, no more taste of the illinois valley either! Gosh forbid we would change the venue and continue having it at Baker Lake. Better yet, the airport would be perfect! Oh, that's right gosh forbid the airport be closed for a week! We just have so so so many planes landing! What a joke of this city! How about a beer drinking bong fest charity event! Wonder who would promote this? On a serious note: COPS FOR CANCER ARE HONEST AS TO THEIR EVENTS AND DONT MISLEAD THEIR SUPPORTERS AND USE A CITY FOR PERSONAL GAIN UNLIKE concerts for a cause. true?false?

WLPO is a joke. Every time I turn it on there is some stupid sports report. As soon as I can turn the knob -- IT GETS TURNED OFF!!!

Those of you that voted no on referendum will be regretting it now

Anonymous said...

That is why they waited until after the election to come out with this. These guys spend money like drunken sailors and then they want to raise property taxes...give me a break

Anonymous said...

Those who voted no did so because they felt a lesser number of aldermen meant a lesser amount of representation.
Anon 9:59 What do you believe is the reason they waited until after the election to do what?
Knowing the number of votes cast by city representatives and relatives, city police and fire departments personnel and relatives, city employees and relatives, city vendors and their employees and relatives, former city employees and relatives, Chamlin and TEST employees and relatives, CSO members and relatives etc. I truthfully am not sure that there would be any change in the final outcome of the vote. Incidentally this is the same reason that it is difficult to defeat a incumbent Mayor in a election and the main reason that the Mayors election should no more than a two man race. You may feel I am wrong and ask me if I believe one man can gain this much control of one town and I may ask you how Hitler gained enough control to run a entire country.

That's the Democrats way of running a business, tax more, charge more, spend more!

Has anyone at city hall ever heard of budget cuts?

9:59 - you should not insult drunken sailors that way. Drunken sailors only spend the money in their own pockets. Peru is spending the money that is in OUR pockets.

WLPO plays classic rock and thank god for it. You have WGN for 24 hour news. How old and crabby are you people?

Do you really miss the Farm Report? Good lord you people hate everything.

WGN is way to liberal. At one time, WLPO had several local talk shows per day. It was good, but not great - the hosts rarely discussed anything bordering on controversial. It would be nice to have one good show a day that discussed local issues in depth - not just Peru, but then entire county. Right now, the WLPO morning show covers three or four issues in three minute monolog snippets. The remaining time is spent on sports reports and repeats of the same "news headlines" with funny little introductions like "if you hit a parked car, better be sure your not drunk." Some of the "issues" covered are not "issues" at all - like the phone calls from local shut-ins talking about how things where back before indoor plumbing and electricity.
Concerning the music - its fine. But many people don't like to listen to music at all. I don't. In fact, my car radio has never been dialed to a music station and generally stays on AM. I don't like to waste time, and driving is a good time to catch up on news.

People, how many radio stations can you pick up? If you can't find one that you like maybe its you. 10-4 Old Buddy

We need more trucks!

And more bars and restaurants, and lower taxes on booze and smokes.

Would it be inappropriate to ask what other town of 10,000 have for revenue and expenditures and why do certain city officials always need more money?
What cost analysis have been conducted by Peru government officials in the last year?
What financial reductions have been made in Peru in the last year?
Why did the Budget Director go to Florida to see the new fire truck, has he experience in fire safety equipment or was he just on a Bus-mans Holiday? Who picked up the Tab?

Higher taxes means more family's will qualify for goverment assistant programs. Which means your tax dollars will be supporting them. There are family's and individual's who are hard workers and don't get paid enough, so their only option is to seek help through the goverment. More rental homes under HUD, food stamps, medical assistance. A very sad situation is when there are hard working people who have no choice. So, a big kudos to all the people who vote for tax increases. I know a family of four, both parents work part-time(employer doesn't allow full-time hours), they receive almost $500 a month for food stamps. There are so many things wrong with this picture. Personally, I have no problem with this family receiving help knowing they are good hardworking people. This family is embarrassed by qualifying for food stamps but they have no choice. And to all the people who say that this is a bunch of crap, you never know what can happen to yourself and your own family. Many people who lose a job, within a couple days they would qualify, if they don't have a safety net of income in a savings account.
