Mark your calendar, meet the candidates - The Times: Local

Mark your calendar, meet the candidates - The Times: Local

Just an example: Ottawa, Marseilles, Streator and Utica.   Will LaSalle Peru have something close to this? Keeping my fingers closed and please post if you know something.

Will Peru jump on the wagon and follow their neighbors and have such as event? Will the other alderman's campaign tactic every be investigated as one alderman's "fun day" tactic was? Not only do our aldermen not represent their constituents with respect they don't even respect each other. It's embarrassing and unnerving.

Do you ever feel that Peru will ever enter into the 21st century without kicking and screaming? Can you ever imagine our seated officials publicly having to answer about their votes?

There was a question and answer at the Peru Library at the last mayoral election, does anyone remember who got that one going? It is time for the same to take place when we elect aldermen, a forum where they can defend their past votes on controversial topics.

10;33 Do you have any idea of the huge gap there is between the 19th and the 21st centuries? Evil Knievel nor Harry Houdini couldn't accomplish jumping ahead one complete century into the next and you want Peru to. How long have you lived here?

Contact the library, maybe they will step up again, and do what is right for the community.

9:31. That's about typical.

9:31 & 7:52, you are the problem with the blog, try to just state true facts, skip the sarcasm and make this blog meaningful.

The trouble with sarcasm is that it is mostly based on truth.

Speaking of marking your calendar... why does the City of Peru continue to pay for the banner advertisement on the NT web sight that says "Need a new calendar?"
It's March! Everyone has a calendar and the city should not be passing them out in the first place! Then paying more to run and advertisement saying they are giving them away. Oh... but.. "we cut everything we can...."

11:12, no sarcasm doesn't come from the truth, it comes from frustration when you can't prove your case.

@10:04 Very well said. I find the blog to be very meaningful but hindered by a number of meaningless and negative comments.
I do see a reason for anonymous comments but one should question themselves if they would submit their comment into the blog if they had to sign their own name to it. if the answer is no, forget it.
Many city government issues are discussed under the ownership of anonymous that would never be presented at council meetings. This would seem to show the blog as a positive and necessary tool of a well orientated and prepared council and administration.
Also it must be realized by those who submit comments that to obtain the cooperation of the council and administration the commenters must grant cooperation and respect in return.
In conclusion I would not expect a city representative to make it a necessity to answer a specific comment nor that someone should believe because they submit a comment it is something that is going to be considered necessary and mandatory to act upon. The blog is not to be a excuse to eliminate personal contact between the representative and the citizen. Remember you want a personal life and so do your representatives. Also you have a family and want them to be treated with respect and so do your city officials.

I find 9:31's comment to be humorous! Lighten up people. Anybody that pays attention to Peru politics knows what 9:31 says is true. When said with sarcasm, it's funny!

Go to the meetings and call or ask your city official. Art has a point. If he wants a answer or a discussion he will ask a member of the city. Try it out. Art, have you ever spoke to a council member and which ones will answer your question and who won't? Truth or Dare.

What 9:31 says is not true. Just like lost comments here. Not true. Just opinions or sarcasm.
