Will the Lobbyist Sign the Same Contract With Same Wording

Now that the lobbyist has been approved, shouldn't the aldermen vote again to approve the contract and add some provisions about responsibility with regard to coming back to the city with specifics being researched and getting approval or do we simply hand it all over to the mayor to do with it what he wishes.

This is the previous contract:

Do the aldermen need to add the responsibilities of the Lobbyist in regard to bringing information back to the elected officials so it can be included in the aldermen's packet each month?
This  should not be for a paycheck at an agreed upon price, we should be getting something in return for the money and that means information in an agreed upon time frame perhaps at Finance Committee Meetings.

This should be standard procedure for all of the companies or organizations that provide paid services to the city regarding economic development.

Recently 2 members of IVAC came to the Finance Committee with a short presentation about their present strategies.

The other company, MCS, Development Delivered has set up an economic development web site which is a part of the City of Peru web site which they maintain and update. It can be located under the Economic Development heading.

You can say whatever you want about our city but how can anyone take our city seriously we don't even have a director of public works for gods sake we are using the police chief and fire chief to do that job, Ottawa mayor thinks we are a joke, wasting all this time on marijuana plant we aren't even gonna get it.

Over and over public works and it's chairman have failed us. We lost Mikos and a payroll scandal, now non compete contract renewals, abuse of power issues and now election is just few months away. The time for change peru is now!!! We need to send a strong signal to leadership change is needed.

Bring Peru back starts with voting in 4 new alderman with new ideas

I'm not a lawyer, but this "contract" is rather flimsy. The only thing definite about the agreement is that $2,000 is due at the beginning of each month. The only thing Mc Anarney has to do is "represent" the City "in their efforts." Meaning - unless the City puts forth an effort or initiative, he does nothing. So... the City must still go out and find the "economic development" opportunities available from the State and Federal Government and apply for them. The lobbyist doesn't "find" anything - he just "represents" us after the city does the work.

This is a bunch of BS if you ask me. Thank you, Peru City Council, for reinforcing my view of how inept, corrupt, and utterly useless local government is in the Illinois Valley.

A lobbyist is much different than a economic development director or the local chamber of commerce. Is it possible that our Mayor may not understand the difference?

Radtke said the city has millions of dollars in infrastructure work in the planning stages and the lobbyist could help win monetary grants to put towards those projects. How much grant money did the lobbyist bring in the first year of his contract? Zero dollars was reported thus far. I guess we have to wait another year to see how much grant money we get from Harl's personal publicist. It has to be $24,000 just to break even. I'm not very hopeful. I hope the lobbyist enjoys himself on the golf course at our expense. No need to look for "honest work" when you have have small town po-dunk mayors like Harl propping you up.

11:47 I agree with your comment but the lobbyist will have to bring in $48,000 in grant money just to break even, since we already paid him $24,000 this past year for nothing.

Well Radtke needs to understand that the State is bankrupt.

We need to prioritize and not just hope some Jamoke with Chicago connections can get us "fee" taxpayer money.

Anon 1:30 PM May I inform you that some business undertakings may take longer than one year to complete especially those that involve large amount of financing from state and federal levels.
Presently I would like to know what and who is in the workings to keep the huge number of jobs Office Max has in Peru and Ottawa? Also locally who visits existing employers from the area to see if they need anything as far as assistance? Success not only calls for bringing new jobs in even more so is the ability to keep existing jobs.
I hear of all these professional hired guns and their efforts but for the last half a century I've picked up the paper and see pictures of Dick Janko creating progress. Thanks Mr. Janko, we need more like you

What is the status of Office Max call center here in Peru? Some people still are saying they are going to lose their jobs at that facility?

The Office Depot call centers,Peru and Ottawa had approx manpower of 400 in Peru and 300 in Ottawa. All of these are very critical to those who are employed there, to those that these employees support, and as importantly the area retailers, medical services, etc.

Truthfully this total of good paying jobs is essential to the economic status of the entire LaSalle County. Many, if not the majority of these employees, are single mothers who are the sole support of their families.

Why does this concern have to be expressed by private citizens through the blog rather than a inquiry of the Miller Media Group, and the state and local governments keeping the area economically sound and updated? I'd appreciate the political time spent on the upcoming medical production facility(possibly 30 jobs)be extended to existing companies who already employ as much or more. We are losing existing companies thru an unwillingness to work thru concerns and costs.

Rumor has it that Peru has lost parts of companies due to extreme electrical cost increases, lost other new companies due to no being labor affiliated, extreme requirements on building codes = just to name a few. No actual reports given by City Hall. which automatically will locate in District 17 being spent on preserving existing employment.

Local politicians don't give a hoot about the actual jobs. They kowtow to local business owners and pass on contracts and sales. Office Max doesn't care about Boss Hurl - so he won't use our lobbyist to get the State to lower the business tax rate or give them a deal.

Okay, Okay, Okay! Enough is enough. 2 wrongs don't make a right and because it has been done forever doesn't make it right either. Come on people the lady/gentleman gave a total of 700 jobs. Isn't that worth a little time and effort to save. We are paying these bottom feeders lets get something for it. Have you had it so good for so long that you forgot when its' time to get in these politicians and lobbyists faces or do you want to wait until it is too late and people are starving. They wouldn't help you than either. As for kowtowing to local business owners and passing on contracts and sales and wasting our money let them know about that also. At first you will get a dull, sleepy look -don't worry- that is how they exist and is normal. If they start gasping for air remove the rock they have crawled under.

Mayor Harl is at the bottom of the feed chain who should be involved in the preservation of local jobs. There are many others including the Governor, Senators and Representatives who need to be involved. As times and methods change so should dormant politicians. By this I mean Good-bye.

5:54 PM - Boss Harl is not "at the bottom of the feed chain," he is actually a "Bottom Feeder" - sucking up whatever he can get. :)
