"just write a check" out of who's account there Einstein?? What a comedian Harl is. I wonder if the kid who's watching the books has the backbone to tell that administration NO! Stop spending!! There comes a time when continuos spending leads to going after our taxes. Then Harl will say well we have no choice we have to raise your property taxes.

great work Peru. Keep it up. The city is better than ever.

sounds good to me. I'm worried about the pipes - we need more pipe replacement, not just putting a fresh top coat on the street.

Just putting this out there for conversation, but once the old Washington School is demolished wouldn't that make an ideal place for a swimming pool complex?

At some point in time, people need to start realizing that water is not free. I think the city should start gradually increasing the price of water until it covers all the costs.

5:15 I am guessing you were not at the last Council meeting the the Engineer and the Financial officer told the council that this money was in the budget, Is that not what you expect them to do be able to pay for the work and not have to raise our taxes??? Get a clue
7:37 Again the Peoria St project is a complete rebuild, not just a layer on top.

7:49 I agree that is would make an ideal location for a pool complex but I believe the location has already been spoken for and will probably become a soccer field.

8:18, they all should be "complete rebuilds" was the point of my comment.

We do not need a pool. However, we could offer a tax free zone for a commercial entity to build a commercial water park.

Government needs to STAY OUT of the entertainment business. That goes for pools as well as concerts. The only thing government should do regarding things like this is to stay out of the way and possible reduce or eliminate government fees and taxes.

To those who consider a want that is going to be available for a season of approximately 70 days a year. The money for a pool is not presently available as there are so many considerations that Peru needs in the list of priorities first.
Presently it appears that if someone with extremely deep pockets does not come forth to pay for a pool Peru is many years away from having it. Along with the payment must be considered expenses once it is built and when these are made available taxpayers may still not favor having a Peru pool.
For the present and future it would be best to consider the many alternatives available.
If you have a pet project please do not make it a beast of burden which all progress will have to stop until Peru gets a pool.

Take the money that is in the pool fund and give it to the YMCA with the stipulation that kids from Peru under a certain age swim free. There - problem solved. Move on to something important.

8;18 I take it you were at the meeting so why not put your name to your post? Obviously you are a represenitive of the city?
Because the city budgets for something doesn't mean squat to me as a tax payer. All that means to me is they can spend according to process. What is the city budget expenditures for 2015? Have we reached 60,000.00 yet? Whatever the expense budget is does the city already have those cash funds sitting in an account waiting to be spent? I would think not! Illinois kept saying just write a check too now look what's happening. If we have all this extra cash laying around then perhaps the city should bring current the pension funds acct and pay off liabilities. Not saying we shouldn't fix our roads and pipes but pay down debt before running lip service by saying the city can just write checks! you administrators at city hall need to start spending as if it's coming from your own check book

very LITTLE do you understand about business. You figure of $60,000 couldn't operate a car wash. I guess those council people shouldn't fix the roads? They should save the money and place it in the whooping bank interest rates. I heard they may go up to a half percent. And then wait for the roads a few years and they need more attention.

I can't remember the last time a road was rebuilt in this town. They paint them black every year and call it good. That's a waste of money when the roads are in as bad of shape as ours. I commend Carls for this plan. They're also replacing the underground infrastructure as part of the project. That's excellent. I'm not sticking up for Harl, but what he meant by "we can just write a check" is that the city has these funds already budgeted, meaning they have the funds in hand. They don't have to bond (borrow) the funds and wind up in a mess like they did a few years ago with the 7th street / sewer separation project. They couldn't pay the contractor due to issues with the bond, if I remember correctly. I can't believe that someone is complaining when the City is actually doing something responsible for once.
