Census estimates show people leaving DeKalb County

Census estimates show people leaving DeKalb County

Interesting information about one of our neighboring counties. I would like to see what about La Salle County.

People are also leaving LaSalle County and especially Peru. My prediction - Peru population around 9,900 next census. The number of school age children is also exponentially dropping. In five years, we will be talking about closing Northview School due to low enrollment in the district.

Not many people over 40 have young children. And the average age in Peru is rapidly approaching 50!

8:01 AM, April 23, 2016 - you obviously don't understand the point. The population of the Illinois Valley is decreasing - people are leaving the area to get good jobs that are not available around here. Kids never stay. Boomers are living off the taxes paid be a continuously declining tax base.

Peru could reduce all taxes to zero and give everyone a free Unicorn and it would not stop the decline. This area has very little to offer in the way of employment - unless you are content with selling Corn Dogs or sloshing beer for "terrorists" from Chicago.

you are right 8:24. And the goofy farmers keep stopping every possibility of any development! They are even against a railroad!

Our LaSalle County Board is against non-agriculture development. They will stop anything that brings jobs. That is why land has to be annexed into forward thinking cities like Utica, LaSalle, and Peru. Otherwise, the County will reject all development.

The LaSalle County Board is owned by the Agriculture Industry. If it doesn't have something to do with corn - it will not happen in LaSalle County.

Don't they meet 6-8 times a month. If they can't get anything done meeting 6-8 times each month in committee meetings then they won't get anything else done in 10 meetings a month. To be honest, the taxpayers will be better off without a few of those running the day to day operations.
