I just watched a short video put out by the City of Peru showing all the repairs being done and most looked to be in the St John's subdivision. Is your street on the repair list?
Looks like most of the East End of Peru which has some very bad streets and a couple are major thoroughfares are being ignored. Several people have commented that one of the streets being resurfaced is the one that Alderman Payton lives on and a few more in the Marquette Manor II subdivision.
In times past Aldermen were allowed to suggest repairs to a certain number of streets in their ward but evidently that is old news and they no longer are doing that.
Do you live on a street that is being ignored or on a street being repaired?

Peru's weak and ineffective elected officials sure do take care of their own including the "Carrie Street Cabal" don't they?
There are a tremendous amount of streets inn Peru that are in much worse shape than Carrie Street was. Shameful political clout means much more to Peru's mayor and aldermen than honest, ethical leadership. They are a despicable crew of know-nothings.
Some of roads being resurfaced this year include Carrie street, 25th off Marquette, 26th off Marquette, 21st off Marquette, the entire Grove subdivision off Shooting Park Road, 14th street off Pine, Pine Street, Center Place, 9th street around LP, Peru street near Pilum and Rock south of Shooting Park, Rock and Plum north of Shooting Park, Second near Putnam, 3rd near Putnam, parts of Putnam, 7 blocks of Green street, Henry Street, 5th street among some others throughout town. The engineer did a complete citywide inventory and each street was graded by engineering specs and is being done in a priority basis and/or as part of major water and other infrastructure work as part of the master infrastructure plan such as 7th street on the far eastside. Contact the city engineer’s office for any questions need of clarification. The phone number is 224-6020 or ericcarls@peru.il.us.
The city has or is in the process of uploading the map onto the web site and it was put on Facebook.

With some citizen help and input I got the FB page rotated so I could understand it. Why North Peoria which is in great condition compared to so many of our city streets? I am very suspicious of that one. The fact that 7 th street which is a major thoroughfare through Peru was ignored I don't understand. Is it going to take a few accidents happening because of the road?
The one block between Pulaski and Walnut needs something done to it as the one block receives additional traffic because of the Catholic Church located there. And I have not even sections of Pulaski on the northern part of it. It's not a matter of fair, it is a matter of safety.
And I assume all of this was ok'd by our Aldermen?
Some of these streets are used on a daily basis by those who provide the safety for our city, unlike numerous ones that are being rapaired on seldom traveled city streets.
1:48 PM May 08 - You forgot to include the dishonest and unethical political favoritism and political retribution practiced by the elected officials as well as the appointed ones.

Am not against any improvements but, noticed Rock and Plum North of Shooting Park are on the list to be resurfaced. Wasn’t Rock (North of Shooting Park) totally done new from scratch about 3 years ago ?? It is a total mess along side the school. Is the city paying again for repairing that mess ? Is it normal to replace streets every three years ? There are a lot of streets that are slowly ending up in peoples yards, thanks to snow plowing. Why aren’t these streets not being taken care of ?? Nobody important living on them ?? Have not even been swept to pick up all the chucks of blacktop and loose pea gravel along the gutters. Not an engineer, but in this taxpayers line of thought, something aint right .
10:24 PM Most streets have not seen total repair in 10 to 15 years. I live on one of them and there are numerous others that will become gravel roads just like you mentioned.

In the age of specialization where unlimited knowledge is available to improve upon one's chosen field why would a person chose to become a "Jack of all Trades Master of None" namely like a ASM (whatever these three letters mean or can mean). If each position is disciplined to the fulfillment of desired hiring as intended i.e. Mayor, Chief of Police, Dispatch Officer, Cooperative Chief of FLOP, City Engineer etc. The end result is success, respect and a improved citizenship. Peru like most other cities appreciate the answers coming from the qualified person on the job not from a pretend know it all in love with a fat wallet. Who is next in line to be replaced the 8 city council members?
If discontent is as great as comments on the blog why has the same political representation been reelected?
The increased sales tax of 1/2%/$1 has been in effect long enough to noticeably be acknowledged in all areas of previous needs.
The swimming pool issue which has been a continuous hard fought battle has been answered with a $2,000,000+ state of the art water park with no mention of a pool in the future.
Continuous hiring's for city jobs such as the recently announced tender of the water park for $7,500/season are only published after they are filled.
Most believe that Peru city jobs are filled before they are published and interviewed.
These examples are only a few heard daily in Peru so once again why has the same political representation been reelected?
If you were to vote for someone other than a incumbent what characteristics would earn your vote or if you have not voted recently what would interest you to vote?
Term limits and salary caps are issues of importance in todays political world along with referendums to allow constituents input.
What has become of recent issue that Peru has been charged of closed session illegal meetings by Illinois AG?
11:55 sounds like you are putting out feelers to run for an elected position.
9:12 The AG office has not charge the city with anything. This calling of the office has gone on for a long time and nobody has been charged with anything to our knowledge. There is a agenda that is trying to destroy the current office holder Mayor Harl and others.
Why?
11:55 More of the same hogwash. Check with the Park board on hirings.
3:19 To my knowledge the park board has nothing to do with the splash pad or the hiring of the person to run it. Where did you get your information?

No one is trying to destroy Scott Harl. . Restoration of the integrity of the office of Mayor of Peru and to eliminate the inefficient combination of designated professions for improper purposes and other hogwash created by his appointments is a goal of many. It is best to comment with reliable info when stating city procedures of hiring. Where are you getting your information?
