The new definition of courage is personified by Catlin Jenner. We have "progressed" beyond the violence committed by "veterans."

OK - I'll bite. Old Bruce is just looking for money. Why else would a man in his 60's dress up like an old lady?

I don't know who is was - but I remember somebody saying that if World War II happened today, we would loose. The statement has nothing to do with the capabilities of the men and women in our armed forces today. But they are few. The vast majority of our population is not capable of serving in the military. They are fat, week, and have "progressed" beyond the ability to defend themselves let alone the nation. Anyone that would call a person that attempts to change their gender a hero needs to have their head examined.

10:45 AM, Why would you bite on that Gay-Baiting comment? Just try to understand that some people like to have a little fun "fishing" for a reaction on this blog and you just obliged him/her. It is amazing how people like you have no ability to recognize what sarcasm looks and sounds like. So you just swallow it up hook, line, and sinker and then top it all off with your own crude, homophobic, narrow-minded rant. Priceless!

Neither Skoogs or Long have served in the military. So I'm voting for the other guy - Jacob Bramel. At least he talks like a conservative. Skoogs is just going to be a vote for Madigan. Long is a RINO and has union ties. I think Bramel will try to bring some sanity and won't feel obligated to generate pork for the yokels.

Anonymous said...

I'll vote for the guy that promises to do NOTHING except try to repeal laws. No pork for Peru, no pork for Ottawa, no pork for "the Valley." No Pork for the 76th District! I want him to vote against Madingan. I want him to vote against Chicago.

Bruce Jenner is not gay. He is just board. Wants to play dress up for awhile. I'm sure the Kardashians have it set up for him to become a lesbian next year.

Anonymous said...

Sorry Long but the last few weeks have proven you are short of ability to project the image of trust needed to serve as a Representative. The best Long could do for the Republican Party is to drop out of the race and back Jason Bramel it would possibly allow him to obtain all the "political goodies" he and his two Republican enforcers offered to Jason at Shakers. Long has never served as a Representative and presently is not a loss to the Republican Party if beaten for the chance to run against the chosen Democratic candidate.
Bramel deserves the Republican nomination.

Anonymous said...

9:42, but if it comes down to Long or Skoogs, my vote is for NOT SKOOGS. I'm tired. This time around I'm casting my votes AGAINST people.

Anyone But Skoogs!
Anyone But Towne!
Anyone But Hillary!

It was very interesting to read what Mr. Bramel told the Daily Disappointment about the LaSalle County Republicans telling him to stay out of the race against Long. That just goes to show you how screwed up politics is when the party hacks visit you and tell you not to run for office. The Republicans are just as corrupt as the Democrats folks. I would not be surprised if one of the "Bag-Men" sent to intimidate Bramel was Peru and GOP insider Bob Vickrey. Good to know Bobby V. can take time away from all his important Peru development duties to further corrupt the political process in LaSalle County. Bramel did the right thing telling them right to go.

Anonymous said...

I disagree 9:42. Bramel is only 23 years old. Long has life experience, plus his name is already out there because he almost beat Mautino. I'm sure that is why Mautino was picked for the auditor position, because Madigan thought he would lose next election anyway.

The best thing the Rep party can do is back Long. The Rep party needs to back one strong candidate if they want to win Mautino's old seat next election. The kid is just too young. I'm not willing to put that much responsibility into the hands of a kid.

I'm sure Bramel will go far, he just needs to get a little more life experience first.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Long's "life experience" has been local. Mr. Bramel has been exposed to the outside world.

One year of living outside of the Illinois Valley is worth ten years of living in this location and dealing with the local "bosses".

We need to expand our political gene pool and start voting in people that have lived away from the area.

Anonymous said...

You know what - I'd vote for a 23 year old way before I voted for a 63 year old. We all know what the generation did to us.

"Speaker Mike Madigan "a tyrant and a dictator" who has oppressed the people of the state for more than 40 years..." That sold me Mr. Bremel. If there is a primary, he has my vote.

Anonymous said...

Please!

Every party wants to pull in all the resources to get the best candidate to win. Long has name recognition from the last election, he has been through political warfare. He has a value system in place and will articulate his mission. He will be a force for the ticket.
Skoobie Do will need twice as much money as Mautino did and will have to have a complete political make-over to run close. How do the Democrats sell a former bartender that has held two short term political offices and has zero political inputs! The same person who said he only wants to be the Clerk of the county. Tough task for the Democrats to keep this seat.

11:04 are you kidding me? Do you have any idea what the boomers did for you young people? We made this country great. It's the politicians who screwed the country. The young people nowadays don't know what hard work is and aren't willing to work overtime or give up their good times.

Anonymous said...

Negative 11:04, it was your parents that made this country great. Here is what the "boomers" did.

From the time the baby boomers took over, the United States has experienced an economic environment plagued with unfounded asset and real-estate bubbles and collapses. The bubbles were caused by blind greed on the part of investors, and a blind eye on the part of regulators. The baby boomers forced the financial and banking system out of relative security to high-risk systems.

Today, young adults are faced with a job market that is hyper-saturated by graduate level degrees and short on decent paying jobs. It is common for a millennial to apply for an entry level position in which a master’s degree is required and thousands upon thousands of applications are received. And when the lucky ones do find work, they are often underemployed and underpaid.

Regarding the environment, baby boomers left the United States reliant on coal (cough, cough) while eroding the advanced nuclear energy infrastructure built by their parents. We can thank baby boomer leadership for a nation that has no sound policy on foreign affairs, the environment, energy, social welfare, human rights, terrorism, technology development, education, debt, etc. The point being, baby boomer leadership has provided America with a government that is the most partisan and self-serving the union has ever seen, and remains entirely reactive to the world around it.

Anonymous said...

The Baby Boomers turned their back on the veterans of World War II and Korea and the veterans of their own generation from the Vietnam War. Generation X - stuck between the narcissistic Baby Boomers and the Precious Snow Flake Millennials - they are the only thing this country has going for it right now. And remember, it was the Baby Boomer Teachers that caused the "issues" with our delicate flowers of the Millennial Generation.

Something fun to do today in. Find an Millennial and go full out "R. Lee Ermey" on them. Watch them poop their pants and cry for help.

Anonymous said...

A note to any of the Snowflake Generation that happen to read this blog.

You are not special. In fact, you can be replaced almost immediately with ten other versions of you waiting in the wings. Get used to it. Nobody cares if you are offended. In fact, the more well grounded generation that came before you takes pleasure in discovering what offends you and continuingly doing it just to see you spin up. You are almost always wrong and the beard you are wearing is not cool. Nobody cares about the new aps on your phone. In short. Grow up. The world is crewel and there can be only one winner.

Anonymous said...

What a bunch of pathetic, sad, sick comments. Now we are going to sit in the dark an anonymity and bash each other's generation? Does this make you feel better? As far as the "millenials" go, they are defending your country now and innovating with technology like no other generation before.

Stop reading articles and stereotyping millions of people based on some pathetic perception you have. Every generation since the beginning of time has thought the next one to be the downfall of civilization but we just keep moving forward.

Absolutely pathetic comments. I truly feel sorry for some of you.

It is funny seeing all the helicopter moms lined up in their SUV's outside the schools waiting to pick up their snowflakes.

When I went to Northview School, I walked from Church Street every day. Even in Kindergarten. We only got a bus pass in December, January, and February. NEVER did mom drive us.

Guess what - no kids disappeared in the snow drifts. Everyone found their way home - usually on time.

Today, the Snowflakes need to be hermitically sealed in a Toyota SUV, never breathing outside air.

Anonymous said...

Less than 0.5 percent of the population serves in the armed forces, compared with more than 12 percent during World War II. The millennials that are serving are the outliers - not the norm. And the leadership positions are Boomers and Xers.

The technology they are using was made by Gen X. They only thing they know how to do is make memes and complain about working for - gasp - EIGHT HOURS.

I had to show a Snowflake how to bake a potato the other day. Now that is pathetic. 20 years old and cant figure out how to cook a potato!

Anonymous said...

Anon 1:51 PM Are you campaigning for a Wilkie Button pinned on your bare chest. You speak of Church Street as some way off location when it is located in Peru.I lived in the country and attended a country school by riding horseback. This ride was for mile after mile and when the snow got to deep I got to school behind a team of dogs riding on a sled.
I don't blame you for believing that you were doing the outstanding when your parents have softened your age group to nothing more than a ridiculous blob of fat. Sadly most young men and women of today would have been admitted to the ER years ago for the unhealthy physical shape they are in. People from foreign countries do not believe the pounds most young American are carrying. Instead of sitting down from noon until evening Thanksgiving Day and eating until sick cut your normal appetite and take a walk. Fortunately obesity can be cured with the proper will.

Anonymous said...

I was simply saying that the helicopter moms today drive their kids a few short blocks to school.

It's a different world now than it was 30 years ago. 30 years ago it was relatively safe to walk home alone, but there are too many nutcases out there to risk losing a child. Just check out the sex offenders list to see if any live close to you.

Anonymous said...

Not true. We just hear about the "nut cases" now. In fact, the rates of all violent crime have been on a downward spiral - decreasing over 50% in the last 20 years. It has never been safer. Maybe due to increased vigalence.. Need to read up on that.

Just rode down the newly repaved Peoria Street and wonder why is it so bumpy?

Anonymous said...

Anon 3:07
Your comment proves that there will always be one or more in the crowd.
I rode down Peoria St. and as many others find it to be a vast improvement which is updating Peru many years beyond 2015. Great job to all involved.

Anonymous said...

This is 3:07. For your information 6:02 I was just pointing out an observation. I too find it a vast improvement and applaud our newly hired engineers but I did find the road bumpy and just wondered if anyone else felt the same way or if maybe there was a reason for such. Why do you people have to take an observation or a statement and turn it into criticism?

Anonymous said...

3:07 The road is bumpy because your 1943 Oldsmobile shocks are gone. Please keep your car in the garage and please don't drink and drive!

I don't like the new school, its too new and modern.

Peoria St is bumpy but evidently all new road construction with concrete is as so is a road coming out of Hyvee bumpy. Has the Peoria street concrete been ground on as it does look like that at night when car lights shine on it. It is not my car!

Anonymous said...

Peoria Street is better than it was. The only appropriate thank you should go to those of us who shop and pay taxes in Peru. That is the ONLY "thank you" of consequence. We paid for it. We made it possible. Not the incompetent aldermen who otherwise waste our tax money. Not the phony mayor who tries to take credit for it. We the people are to be thanked because it is "OUR MONEY" that paid for that concrete.

Anonymous said...

Thank you Lois because I too have heard something about that new concrete has to be ground or something similar to even it out. 10:28 and 10:26 your sarcasm and lack of intelligence is showing through. Once again I am 3:07 and I was simply stating an observation and looking for a possible intelligent explanation. I did not say it wasn't a vast improvement and a well needed updating.

Anonymous said...

I didn't hear of any city officials or engineer taking credit for a road. This time our beloved Mayor didn't put up any signs thanking himself for his paving skills. 12:24 your a little strong on your comments but you are right it's our money. Not many people are critical of officials spending money on improvements that help everyone. Its the signs and the wasteful spending by some that get our dander.

Anonymous said...

12:24
To those that question who to give credit to a city improvement, and believe they alone are sole supporters of improvements which build a updated city. Taxes are collected to support the projects which representation deems necessary to create the city which they believe the populace wish to have. Peru, which had reached a stationary stance of not improving, and directing all indications of success being low taxes seems to be unaware how innovative the financial support for great schools and roads is for our area.
Participation and teamwork by all are necessary for city success, a success which is worth the effort of all.

Anonymous said...

The road is bumpy because they have more work to do. More bread to butter.

Anonymous said...

Lois, your right it was so bumpy in spots that they had to go back and mill it, salt could be a problem for the milled areas, popping could occur. Not all concrete roads are bumpy, Buckling St. In LaSalle was smooth, this shouldn't have happened on Peoria St., for 1.2 million I think someone should be held accountable .

Anonymous said...

To carry on and on forever about 14 signs which were displayed years ago and to keep including them in the comments of Peru updated ultra modern streets is ridiculous and stupid. There is a minute group of individuals who continue to cut their nose off to spite their face in spite of not realizing they are doing Peru harm rather than good.
Rather than acknowledge the good being performed by Peru's Mayor and council they are lauding their own imagined negatives. This few had best realize that as more good is being performed the positive is becoming larger automatically making them smaller and less heard from and heard of. Presently we have reached the time to grant a tip of the hat and a handshake to our elected officials for the great job performed at the smallest cost available.

Anonymous said...

Anyone who has driven over Peoria street has to admit it is not as smooth a ride as one would expect for a newly paved road. I surely hope there is another step that needs to be taken and that the road needs to be approved of by our engineering group before the bill is paid. This is not sarcasm or criticism. It's fact.

Anonymous said...

"updated ultra modern streets"????? Do they include the "Adventure Drive" intersection and the 3 way stop disaster (including the Pine Street congestion). I feel that someone should should put the horse back in front of the cart and do a little THINKING before going off on some knee jerk reaction and half assing these jobs.

Anonymous said...

From further-est points of the North, South, East and West the greatest minds in engineering. This group are commonly non degree but always present to advise and criticize. They have acquired the title of sidewalk engineers surely not through hard work.
Possibly because Peru has not had road improvements for so long most of the elderly have passed on and never have been replaced. Some believe this may be the reason Peru is now known as the creator of the PC Civil Engineer (a honor only titled to those who own a home computer and have a drivers license and have a lack of getting very much accomplished).
As this group of PCCE's are awaiting for another step to be taken maybe someone will awaken them to the alarming fact that the nature of the beast concrete once dried in a long ribbon is pretty much what you got. This also is not sarcasm or criticism. It is all fact.

Anonymous said...

Butter and bread, bread and butter. That is the purpose of these street projects. It is good that we are able to get people from other towns to pay for our infrastructure, instead of the users of said infrastructure. Thank you citizens of LaSalle, Oglesby, Spring Valley, Tonica, Delzall, Utica, Granville, Standard, and even Ottawa for paying our bills.

I am the person who made the comment of the apparent incapabilities of today's youth overall to acquire the mental as well as the physical ability to defend America within military and combat situations.
Fortunately the United States has a array of defensive weapons that only the imagination could envision.
Some form of mandatory training and active service should be discussed at this time. Possibly those who have been on long term unemployment should be considered first as the military would train them for their life after the service which they themselves have failed to do. This is not a easy decision but some form of preparations should be made.
This is not only a U.S. "boots on the ground" as every country involved should be physically represented.
I stress that I hate the thought of war but even more I hate the thought of a enemy that is determined to eliminate our lifes.

Anonymous said...

6:31 Do you want those living off the government to protect our heartland? I would rather have those who served in World War 2 than the lightweights we have running around.

Anonymous said...

If a person was 21 in 1945 in 2015 he will be 91. Yes I would rather have a member of "The Greatest Generation" protecting our heartland than those living off the government but at 91 I find it a impossible task. I agree with you that the young (18-35) who avoid a job are lightweights in some need of a serious purpose although I would not find it a pleasure to be next to them in the military.
Maybe a separate company all of their own kind would work best for them and for the rest.

Anonymous said...

this is the result of not using the Rod.

I have two bits of news for you. Basically ALL of the soldiers fighting today are young people of the generation you so despise. Anyone who lumps entire generations of millions of people together are sad, pathetic people. I feel sorry for you.

Also ALL of the soldiers in WWII were living off of the government as all soldiers do. Just like our soldiers today. You know back in the good old days and throughout when the greatest generation had a top federal tax rate of 90 percent and women had fewer rights and we won't even talk about segregation.

Actually I truly wish we could send some of you back in time. That would be pretty cool.
