Not Local But Certainly Something We All Need to Be Informed About.

Liberals , the same as conservatives have intelligent people within their body. Being a liberal does not mean that one is going to agree with inexperienced, stupid thoughts.
What I observe is a young lady who no longer believes it is a privilege to be able to obtain a lengthy education and to extend it to a college degree, but dose not understand that the same United States where she is enabled to receive this education is fighting for the rights of women to go to school on soil foreign.
Her goals are a free education, cancellation of student debt and $15/hr. minimum wage for college workers. She would prefer a stop of the injustice of the system as it is right now. Maybe most of her ideas are created by the fact her family is already on numerous forms of government assistance. What she dose not say is that her family probably has been drawing numerous forms of government assistance for along period of time and she has been a witness of this resulting in her reach for a higher level.
I assure you Lois that your liberal friends disagree with this young lady, who never mentions whether she has herself made a effort to support a %age of her education, as much as your conservative friends. She and the many like her scare me and it is our political representatives who have given her the privilege to vote.

There presently is a large amount of money directed towards universities and present students. I would bring in the National Guard and surround the protesters. As they leave the designated circle area a independent individual would accumulate necessary data to limit or take away all government benefits they are receiving.
Yes, possibly excessive, but a lesson well taught to all participants and those with similar ideas. Any instructors participating should also be subject to all penalties involved.

This is the Bernie Sanders group that doesn't care about how we pay for all the giveaways.

This blog has to stop solely posting news from conservative sources. Offer a variety of stances and ideologies that equally represent the American people. There is a large portion of the population currently that believe that the minimum wage should be raised to at least $10, which the non-binding referendum in Illinois clearly showed, and that public universities should be tuition free.

Fox News only won this argument because they selected a young lady who wasn't much informed on the policies on how to put these ideas forth. This is what political biased new stations do in order to make their ideas seem like the only viable ones. Instead of offering the plan of taxing the 1-2% even greater for tuition free universities, which is a potential idea for universal health care, the plan to tax wall street speculation should have been brought to the argument. There has been more than 40 countries around the world that have introduced a similar tax with great success. These countries have tuition free public university and are not crippling the younger generations under debt that will have to be paid back for decades.

Even though the student wasn't very knowledgable on solutions to the growing problems of minimum wage and growing tuition costs, the commentator only used numbers that would help the his cause and make the guest look foolish. He only used Greece as an example, the worst of examples, when there are countries such as Germany that are doing incredibly well financially and have tuition free public university.

This college thing is going to get serious. It's not just a racial thing but also economic. Hope this works out peacefully.

You need a flat tax rate of about 45% to pay for everything. Just ask Germany. Socialized medicine, public universities with application process to rate ability, and wage controls. They have to bring immigrants to work the factories. Most of the wealthy Germans have moved to the United States, Britain and China for greater economic freedom.
It won't matter anyway, we have given our little darlings everything they have wanted in life and they want more. We have turned them into the I want society. When you have College Presidents and politicians who make the laws bending over backwards to meet the demands of this age bracket, we know the result. We have taken away law and order. We hold police accountable for taking action against a criminal who
robbed a store, beat up the store owner and attacked a cop. We call it racial injustice? We have 35 year old anon. college students that organize boycotts and control our education system, we call that social injustice.

I will post those sources when they make intelligent thoughtful news accountings. When I know other sources are outright telling lies as news, I won't post them here. Amazing how some can actually believe them.

Anonymous said...

So the only source that tells the truth is Fox? Hah! and Bill O'Reilly is a saint. Check the facts of your sources, not just from conservative websites, but unbiased agencies.

As someone who is grateful for the outstanding education I received at our local elementary and township high schools, I find it painful to read some of these posts. My eyes glass over when I see the abuse of there/they're/their/; too, to and two; bored and board; dose for does; you're and your; ...etc. Who ARE you people??? You certainly did not sit in any of the English classes that I attended. If you did, you must have slept through (threw) them. It is difficult to accept(except) the truth of what you say.

When I was younger and did not have time to really read and understand the news of the day and even though I always thoroughly enjoyed all my history classes of which there were many and my political science class, I pretty much started out voting as my parents did by voting the Demodratic ticket. And gradually I began to see that they were not always right and became an independent and at this time the line of of garbage being spewed by many Dems has totally led me into a very conservative point of view. I finally get it. I am probably still somewhere in the middle but the left is so far left, I don't want to be there. And NO O'Reilly is not a saint and I dont agree with him many times.

According to the agenda for tonight's council meeting a "Motion to approve selected developer for Econo Lodge site" will be proposed. I wonder if we, the citizens of Peru, will be informed as to who that selected developer is? We do know 3 parties were interested. Why the secrecy as to who has been chosen?

Anonymous said...

I was just looking at the Agenda for tonight's meeting and all the phony-baloney reports and crap in "the packet". I can;t believe hpow screwed up this city is the way they hide the important information from the people. This new PW building is screaming along at light speed and it's all a done deal except for a few phony votes. they have it set up so Vissering is the construction manager and Vissering will be one of the companies vying to build the building. The nit-wit mayor and aldermen are setting it up for Vissering to recommend themselves to build the damn thing. Now that's the Peru way of doing business at its finest. The phony and corrupt city officials think they bare pulling another fast one by distancing themselves from the rigged contract system by hiring Vissering as the middle man to do the dirty work of directing the work to the "pre-selected contractors". Mmmm, let's see. I wonder if Vissering will award themselves any of this lucrative building work? How will the bread be buttered? Surely, the mayor and aldermen would not "encourage" Vissering to choose "selected local contracors" would they? OMG, these people are absolutely disgusting in their corruption. Also, there is a letter in "the packet" from the Wreck Director that looks like it was written by an 8 year old talking about something called a Miracle Lighting or Night of Miracle Lighting at the airport or some ridiculous thing. It must be Peru's "Christmas Lights Envy" answer to LaSalle's Rotary Park Christmas lighting. Pretty lame attempt to keep up with legitimate community efforts like LaSalle has been doing for years. Where is the budget line item for these lights? Where is the money coming form all this "Miracle of Lights"? How much is being wasted on this lighting scam and what local suppliers or contractors are going to make some extra holiday bucks off the citizens of Peru? The corruptiion never ends in this city. In fact, the holidays actually provide more new and exciting opportunities for Harl and the rubber-stampers to take care of the campaign fund donors and the connected friends and family.

Wow! I wonder who will be the "lucky" group chosen to develop this "blighted" property. Let's see now, 1 local developer with political clout up the ying-yang or 2 other developers from out of the area who have no local connections and no elected officials puilling strings for them behind the scenes. I'll take a wild guess and say the local, connected crook, who has been feeding at the Peru trough for many years will be selected with an 8-0 vote by our illustrious council. I know I'm really going out on a limb here folks. I could be wrong, right? LOL.

10:44 More conspiracy. Let's give this new facility some time. We already know that there is a construction manager hired and that's it. Typically a construction manager puts together bid packets and the bids are open at a public meeting. Those bid packets are open to all qualified contractors. Not sure why you would accuse the city of having Vissering as a preferred contractor. I doubt any of them have had any dealings or experience with any contractor?
The lights? Haven't heard anything about this in the news or whatever the recreation committee is doing. Maybe more is in the works. Is there a local contractor linked that can make money off Christmas lights? Your reaching for anything on this conspiracy.

Anonymous said...

Construction managers are hired to steer contracts to "preferred providers" who are connected with city officials, elected or otherwise. It is a common form of corruption used by city officials who wish to create the impression of honest dealings for city contracts and to take the heat off elected officials. If anyone questions the details of how contracts were awarded the city officials will claim they have nothing to do with it. In reality they direct the "manager" to steer contracts to certain connected companies. It's all quite corrupt but is only exposed if the public asks detailed questions and demands answers. That does not happen in Peru and questions are not allowed at council meetings so it will all go very well for select businesses with a little help from their friends at city hall..

Anonymous said...

missing the point. Why is a construction manager needed for an inexpensive steel building on a concrete slab. A building with garage space, offices, and work shops. An industrial building made for working in.

oh wait,..... that's right. They are going to make a garage that looks like our "municipal building." Made of brick. With top of the line window treatments, hard wood floors, executive office space.

10:44 YOU HAVE TO BE ONE OF THE MOST ANGRY BLOGGERS I HAVE READ. PLEASE TELL US WERE YOU BEATEN SO BAD IN PAST ELECTIONS, LOST A BIG CITY CONTRACT THAT RUINED YOUR BUSINESS? COME ON THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING THAT HAS CAUSED YOU TO BE THIS ANGRY.

THE ECONO LODGE HAS BEEN TALKED ABOUT FOR OVER A MONTH, AND I BELIEVE THE COUNCIL MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT LAST NIGHT.(IF YOU WERE THERE YOU WOULD KNOW THIS).
IT SEEMS ALL ANYONE WANTS TO DO IS COMPLAIN. I KNOW THEY ARE NOT PERFECT BUT THESE PEOPLE WERE ELECTED BY THE PEOPLE. IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE THINGS THEN RUN FOR OFFICE AND GET ELECTED. i MAY THROW MY NAME IN FOR AND ALDERMAN, WHEN IS THE NEXT ELECTION.

Anonymous said...

6:42 no, that is not what a construction manager is used for but by all means keep talking. I hope local workers and businesses DO get the job.

2:08 you are wasting your breath. Most of the better informed have long left here and I'm going to join the them.

Anonymous said...

2:08, if you are a gambler would you place a bet that there is no corruption in the City of Peru Government? Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE that has lived in the Illinois Valley for any amount of time KNOW - we just know that our local governments are inherently corrupt. Look at the names in the 1970 LP High School Year Book. You will see many people that have been sucking the life blood out of the Illinois Valley ALL THEIR LIFE. It sickens me when some people genuflect to these corrupt hangers on that have been making millions from tax payers for decades and their parents before them did the same. Everyone on the Peru City Council is a corrupt TIF Sucker! Period, end of story!

Anonymous said...

Where can I get a 1970 l-p high school yearbook?

Sure sounds like you are an "Al Bundy" still living in high school. You really have trouble with those families who have worked hard and made something of themselves. it is 2015 in America you still can be anything you want all you have to do is work hard.

I just looked and not one comment about the Heroin problem or the forum last night at LP.

Does this blog only care about conspiracy theories how about attacking a real problem.
Sure didn't see Super Rodney there last night???? Now way to get picture in paper?????

Anonymous said...

6:56 wow...pretty strong language from someone without any evidence of corruption within the Peru City council. I like the idea and the 1970 yearbook, its just WE all need some evidence of this inherent corruption. Who is making millions off of the taxpayers?

Anonymous said...

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, in 2013 there where almost 8,000 heroin related deaths in the United States. Our population in 2013 was 316.5 million. As you can see - deaths from heroin are small.

There will always be heroin use. I think the local "summit" is purely for show and a way to stir up emotions and get the vote out for Mr. Towne. It would be more impactful for our local officials to encourage economic activity in the areas of manufacturing, transportation, and mining - this would create meaningful employment and economic prosperity. Abuse of heavy drugs is a result of poverty more than anything else.

We also have an aging population which is susceptible to abuse of prescription drugs. This is by far a larger issue, with over 25,000 deaths in 2013. This will continue to increase as the Boomers get older and hooked on their feel good pills.

Anonymous said...

8:54, by your comment it sounds as if you have not been around this area very long.

Anonymous said...

This Heroin Summit or whatever it's called is a purely political promotion for local law enforcement. It is a joint effort of self-promotion by State's Attorney Brian Towne and Peru Police Chief Doug Bernabei. Towne needs the "good press" to off-set several false arrest allegation lawsuits against his office and Peru needs good press also as they also have at least one false arrest lawsuit filed against them in federal court. They are political allies who abuse their respective offices for political gain for themselves and others they are connected to. There is no corruption worse than the corruption of a law enforcement or prosecution agency. When these agencies abuse and misuse their authority to knowingly arrest, charge, and prosecute innocent people it becomes the most egregious form of corruption there is.

Anonymous said...

5:11- Cops and State's Attorneys get sued all the time. The criminals they put behind bars like to counter sue in hopes the charges will be dropped or overturned. You would think these criminals don't have the money to hire lawyers for these civil suits but you'd be surprised. Sometimes the lawyers have an axe to grind with the cops, sometimes the lawyer is the criminal's girlfriend, maybe the lawyer wants to run for State's Attorney. In these cases the lawyer may take the case very cheap or pro bono to try and get even or do a favor. In any case, the cops are almost always found to be acting within the law, "hands up" was proven false, and we are lucky to have people who want to do these jobs and take the crap from the ambulance chasers looking to make a buck or make a name.

Mr. Towne's private police force has come under scrutiny. What he is doing is definitely NOT legal. The only purpose of the "Pinkertons" that Mr. Towne has hired is to shake down out of state drivers on I-80. In a recent case that was tossed out of court and has instigated an Illinois Supreme Court case, Mr. Towne berated the defendant, stating the he (Mr. Towne) never heard of somebody packing up all their "exploitive deleted" in their vehicle and driving across the country. The individual was moving from Oregon the New Jersey. He was stopped by Mr. Towne's Pinkerton Detectives. They told him since "all the drugs come from Oregon, we are going to search your "expletive deleted" until we find something. They searched him for over an hours, removing everything from his vehicle and spreading it out along the Interstate. The never found anything and left him their to repack all his possessions.
Most of the "big" drug cases around here have one goal - confiscate cash to fund the police force. I'd rather pay a little more tax to buy a new squad car - which will patrol the residential parts of town - than give up my civil liberties to support the treasure hunts on I-80.

Anonymous said...

Your Civil Liberties are of little concern to Mr. Towne or Mr. Bernabei my friend. Confiscation and forfeiture is the primary driver as you say.

Anonymous said...

I'm thinking that since trying to control the supply of drugs going to Chicago on I-80 is defiantly not working, maybe we should take a local approach to the problem.

I have a feeling that the cops know who the local dealers are and - more importantly - who the local customers are.

It is also highly likely that the customers are involved in other crimes from the petty to quite serious. If the police where to concentrate on arresting the customers at every opportunity - they would eventually get the help they need and more importantly, the dealers will not have a market for their product.

We are not talking about thousands of people here. It should be a relatively easy task to "drop the hammer" on the users.
