Illinois has more local government units than any state

Illinois has more local government units than any state  WORKING TO FIX THE PROBLEM OF 2 MANY GOVERNMENT TAXING BODIES,  keeping my fingers crossed on this possibility.

Opens up the old "township" argument again. But nothing will be done unless the people demand it. LaSalle County should switch to commission form just like Williamson County. Get rid of the townships and all the extra expense.

Now some Cry Bully Liberal is going to say - "the work still needs to get don." To them I say - no it does not. The County Assessor can set the tax rates for the entire county - he doesn't need some juiced in real estate agent from Podunk City plugging numbers into a computer program. Give to the Poor? B.S. - the only "charity" that townships perform are for people that don't qualify for ANY assistance. Let the church do that. Roads? Give me a break. The few township road districts in LaSalle County are a total waste of money. Roll them in to the county system and fire the do nothing "Highway Commissioner."

Schools.... don't get me going. One school board and one school district would do for the entire county. Keep all the schools... just cut the administration and boards. One tax rate county wide. Might be higher, might be lower. But the people would then start to question why 100 kids in Deer Park need their own school.

4:11 There you go again! Don't you have anything better to do than try to raise the unemployment rates. your everlasting arguments about townships and school districts are getting those involved pretty
pi _ _ ed off. Especially those double and triple dipping who never had it so good.
What do you want, some 70, 80 or 90 year old to step aside to give one of these local punks a opportunity to learn and make a living for his family. Best for them to move away than to stay and screw everything up. Next thing you know we'll be getting people involved with integrity who don't have any feelings for that old gang of ours.
This is Peru and what works in other towns doesn't have to be attempted here. Some of us, over many years have gotten pretty damn good enforcing no bid contracts, favorite vendor purchasing and stopping progress if it does not favor our own needs.
Remember when Scott Harl ran and was defeated and ran again and won. He ruined a lot of long range planning that night. It was so bad that one alderman who was elected city treasurer said no way and stood stationary to his alderman post. Harl was so onery that the council put him through everything but the wash machine wringer and that was because they couldn't find one. Well, what did he expect he defeated a true politician who did all our work and made all our decisions for 44 years. Many people still think he presently is Mayor. We know better because Harls the guy who put us to work for our money!

If you look at government as a source of jobs... well, lets just say you are not the sharpest tool in the shed.

We need fewer school districts - managed by one school board and one superintendent for the entire county.

We do not need any townships. The only thing a township does is pay people to sit around all day doing absolutely nothing. Fire them all.

Township Supervisors and School Administrators - the very bottom of the bottom feeders.

Just a little reminder that La Salle's Rotary Park lights display will come to life Tuesday evening beginning at 4 o'clock. There will be 120 displays lit up by a chosen child who will help Santa and Mrs. Claus. There will also be games, a hayrack ride, pizza, s'mores, and much more. Sounds like a fun night and a wonderful way to start the Christmas season.

Lois, who is heads of snow plowing? Oversees Electric Dept? Isn't this the first snow storm of the year? Rumor has it that supervisor out of town. Could you verify? I heard a few complaints about plowing. A title on this blog site regarding this first snow storm and power outage.

Peru only plows the money making parts of town. Residential streets don't bring in revenue. Only the streets up by the mall do.

Road commisioners

Anonymous said...

We don't have any Road Commissioners.

We have more important things to talk about. There are only 224 days until the 4th of July. This year the 4th of July will be on a Monday - which will impact booze sales considerably. Since we are changing the location of the Fire Works Event, we need to demand that the celebration in Peru happens on the Saturday BEFORE the 4th of July from now on. Alcohol sales are crucial to the success of this event and many people don't like to drink heavily during the week. Everyone will have more fun if the event happens on Saturday night. And more money will be made.

When is Mayor Harl going to make the announcement about the new location? The decision was made weeks ago.

Anonymous said...

I heard the city is going in cahoots with the mall and the pizza lady to have the event there - along with a rock and roll show. There will also be a charge to watch the fireworks this year - but part of that will go toward a 50 50.

They should sell Bratwurst at the 4th of July Thing, not Pizza.

If what you say is true prove it by announcing the proposed new location. We'd all like to be informed.

Peru Mall Parking lot. Facing west. The explosives will be launched to the east from the electric plan compound over the corn field between the mall and electric department. It will still require the airport to be shut down during the event, but will not require payments to the FAA. North Peoria Street will also be shut down for ground displays.

Anonymous said...

If what you say is true 10:29 I thought the airport was out of the question because of all the paper work necessary to shut it down. The payment to the FAA would not have been a big deal. It was, according to word on the street, only $250 for the circus that was held there.

Back on topic...There are 37 Road Commissioners in LaSalle County and about 1500 miles of township highways. There is no way you can eliminate Road Districts and efficiently take care of all of that.

Anonymous said...

11:58, if you don't actually shoot them off at the airport and have a thousand people milling about the airport grounds drinking, there is not "all that paperwork" to do. Shooting them off near the airport simply requires a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) to be issued for the event.

Anonymous said...

12:41 - what do you base your opinion on? Having 37 independent township road districts means there is 37 times more inefficiencies in maintain those 1500 miles of roads. At the very least, there are 37 full time salaries that could be eliminated and the funds being transferred to road work instead. MANAGING 1,500 miles of road is a one person job. Having 37 highway commissioners, with their 37 full time wages, benefits, and retirement programs is pure waste. If memory serves me correctly, Old Joe made $60K take home pay. Call that average and you got over $2 Million in commissioner salaries - that equals $1,333 per mile of township road just to pay the highway commissioners take home pay. Double that for the benefits.

Waste, waste, waste.

Anonymous said...

Better do a little research. Peru Township is the exception. Very few get anywhere near that salary, almost none get pension and benefits. One person managing 1500 miles of mostly rural highway in the second biggest county in the state (square miles) is ridiculous. Yes, Peru Township Road District could go away, but the rest of the county, or state for that matter, is not like Peru Township.

Anonymous said...

2:06 Why would you have to do paper work because alcohol would be served? My understanding is the paper work would be to get permission to close the airport to incoming and outgoing aircraft.

Anonymous said...

2:13 - it is even more wasteful when you look at Peru Township Road district by itself. $60K for six miles - that is $10K per mile in Highway Commissioner take-home pay cost alone. Double that for insurance and retirement.

Anonymous said...

Debo and whoever has to go

Anonymous said...

They all need to go and the roads turned over to the county.

Anonymous said...

$60K is about average for all the Township Highway Commissioners. I believe the rate of pay is set by law.

Anonymous said...

1018am who or where you are getting your info is a pile of false crap. I'm LOL so much over your stupidity.

Anonymous said...

11:58 - I get it from the various budget both published and un-published. Peru Township is often unresponsive, so the information on them is rather old. It is outlined in 605 ILCS 5/6-207. The minimum they can be paid is $3,000 which is paid for by the township general fund and up to 50% of their salary can be paid for by the road and bridge fund.

In LaSalle County - all of the full time Highway Commissioners take between $40K and $60K salary. The only work they do is fill out their budget for the next year.

The entire system is a SCAM !

Anonymous said...

1158 you are an idiot if you think all Townships pay their Highway commissioner 60k per year. The rate is not set by IL Law. You made me LOL even more. You need to do more research and don't base your stupidity from what Peru Township pays the road Commisioner.

436 your answer that the county is a efficient operating government body is crazy. Big Government just creates more wasteful spending and jobs for there buddies. LaSalle county is corrupt. The City of Peru is corrupt. If you know how many civil rights violations are going on right now it would blow your mind. And to have the tribe to report them would be a big shock too! The Democrats in LaSalle County are the cause why it's not reported. Towne is involved in civil lawsuit and the Peru Police Dept!

Anonymous said...

It is easier to watch one corrupt government than 37 corrupt governments.

Anonymous said...

it would also be easier to fix the county than the 37 useless townships.

Today Peru Township has two part time employees, a secretary and a road maintenance guy and 7 elected officials. The prior good ole boys club (Democrats) had two full time employees. When the right people get elected into government they eliminate corruption and waste-full spending. The next agenda for them is too cut the elected officials salaries. One of them wants a 50% cut. Remember it was the good ole boys club (Democrats) that grossly voted to increase their own salaries in years past. It took a Republican, two Independents, and one Democrat to make the change possible.

11:35 Hysterical! They took away the position of the female that did all the work. They still gather the highest paid elected positions in the City of Peru. This group meets once a month and does nothing. You talk about change? Its hasn't happened. If they are serious they would have cut the wages once they were elected, they did nothing and like those pay checks. If you talk about the most illogical form of government they are the poster child. You have a clerk making $30,000 a year, Supervisor $45,000 both patronage positions from the Democratic party. The supervisor goes to work, the clerk goes 20 minutes a month and both accomplish nothing. And they are making changes? Get away from the spiked cider. These new comers are the same ones floating around petitions every few months, but for some reason they don't want to float around the petition to disband the Township. Funny, what's next? Were going do this and we would have done that and next on the agenda----getting re-elected. 11:35 its the holiday season not April fools Day.

936 You Mock what no one in the county has ever done. The township budget is peanuts compared to LaSalle County and the City of Peru. If you believe LaSalle County and the City of Peru run their government is normal you are a retard. There is So much graft and waste in those body of governments. You are one of those party people who keep it the way it is. You believe in graft and corruption. You are the one who mocks everything that makes sense. Grow some nuts and and let's here your bull that the City and county is well ran.

1135 the female got the job because she is a supporter of the Democratic Party. There are many qualified people that would do the job for less money. Maybe the should eliminate her position because it's not needed. Most other townships don't even have a secretary. You never know this might be what you see happen.

Anonymous said...

1135 had one full
Time and if you recall the commish was going to do it all
By himself So try again

The local newspaper started a investigation but did not pursue any conclusion.

626 big joe had dools full time and little Joe part time, get your facts right!

Anonymous said...

936 if you were so sharp on township law you would know the newcomers can't change sailers until 2016. Yiou should blame the good ole boys club for allowing elected salaries to become one of the highest township salaries in the state. But we know your one of the good ole boys team because of your criticism of the new comers.

Turning over the tea leaves the past has not been good and the unguarded and unguided future looks much worse. What is Debo's job description and what is he doing to live by such?
