New and Old Concerns in Peru. Santa Coming Again

Could the current unholiday banners present  in downtown Peru have been purchased by the members of the RTE 6 association? Perhaps it would be wise to try and create a committee of local citizens regarding the "look" of downtown Peru and try if possible to involve some of the businesses that exist along this highway.

Doing this might let those traveling through town  know that people do care about the city and that they do have visions of how they want their city to look.  Couldn't we at least had something that might resemble Christmas decor? Yes I know the old stuff is still put up and the white lights are around the lamp posts.

I see from the meeting on Dec. 5 the Public Service committee is discussing chairs for the new Taj Mahal conference room located between N.Peoria and the  Plank Road.  We need to know and understand that bldg. is where all priorities are.

Looks like businesses have closed such as Berry Bearing or have they simply moved. The tool business bldg near Westclox is also available. Amici's has been sold to a family currently involved with restaurants in Peru and Ottawa so let's hope for something good with that bldg. Numerous other locations also available on major routes in Peru.

Santa Claus will arrive at the Airport, I have heard.  Cookies will be available. Didn't Santa come last week to City Hall to light the HUGE Christmas tree? The same day La Salle had Miracle on First and the High School was sponsoring Santa's Workshop. How about some organization for a better turnout? Know what is going on in other cities in the area and work with people who actually have children to know what is best to help them have a good time and coordinate days, times and events.

You don't like the colors of the banners. They are talking about buying new chairs. You are trying to make it sound like all of these businesses are leaving Peru when of course the opposite is happening. Even Santa is coming and they will have cookies, but that sounds like it bothers you as well.

Could you be any more of a Debbie Downer? Is this all you have to complain about? Cheer up a little and instead of complaining about trivial matters why don't you do something to help other people? Anything. Because if this is all you have to complain about, your life must be really fantastic.

You know some things are, not good and not bad. Sometimes they are OK but could be better and somethings just are. Sometimes you wonder why people do what they do and maybe a discussion would be a good thing. We are not complaining you are doing just that.

How would you like us to help ? But there are city issues that are discussed but only after decisions are made AND information that is placed on agendas is very generalized and actually not informative to the residents. So residents don't come to many committee mtgs or any mtgs.

Which begs the question why does a city the size and scope of Peru have only 2 committees? Is it so the mayor can keep an eye and ear on everything going on in Peru? At one time there were 4 or 5 committees and things were really discussed and citizen input was maybe not welcomed but at least allowed and each aldermen had some responsibilty and the mayor did not necessarily have to be there.

BTW you are also making judgements about what I or anyone else thinks and you don't really know. And you post just proved my point of how the city is run or is not. Who are you helping?

And I think that the city is probably holding its own as businesses are leaving and new businesses are coming to town to maintain that balance but just not enough to keep the youth in town.

Come on 2:02! You have to admit that Lois is right. Yellow and blue are not christmas colors and the banners are unnoticeable unless you are made aware that they exist.

I agree with Lois as far as the xmas banners and the decorations on our lampposts. The colors of the bannners are no where near xmas colors and I think it's time to start replacing the antique decorations we have hanging across 4th street and the wreaths and trees we have hanging on poles. They have served their purpose but it's time to more forward. The new decorations at the Pulaski Square Park and those by Maud Powell are a prime example of the kind of improvements we need to start making to make Peru and its' downtown more inviting. And while I'm not particularly fond of Veteran's Park as the perfect location for a skating rink I am thrilled that we got it put up this year. Thank you Jeff King and city workers. Hope it will be put to good use this year.
