First Ward Aldermanic Seat Hopefuls

James Giordano, Patricia Leynaud, Jeff Ballard, James Lilley.

Giordano was a candidate for Mayor at the previous election. Not sure why because he became the reason that many complained that only 2 should be allowed to run for that seat. A plant I don't know.

Jeff Ballard is a familiar name and wonder if he was previously a candidate for that first ward seat.  Anyone remember?

James Lilley, a newcomer but frequent visitor to Peru City Council meetings.

Patricia Leynaud, I don't know.

News Tribune online shows the name of 4 candidates for the 1st ward alderman position. As far as I know, only 1 of those candidates ever goes to a meeting. Why are the other 3 even interested?

here we go again.... the opinion that if you have not attended a years worth of council meetings you are not qualified.

The only qualifications are age, residency, and having all your taxes and utility bills paid up.

The real question is do all the individuals have the time? The real meetings happen during normal working hours. The "council meeting" is just a show for the newspaper.

Who said anything about qualifications? 1:42 just asked why the other 3 are interested. Why would you apply for a position that you know nothing about because you never attend a meeting? Just doesn't make sense to me. Patti Leynaud is the attorney's wife. Giordano confuses me. Ballard did run previously. Lilley goes to the meetings.

2;58 I disagree with you. Is attending meetings a requirement - no. However, I do believe it shows that an individual cares about it's governing body and is more informed than someone who has never attended a meeting. If a person never showed an interest in meetings before why would they want to attend now on a bi-weekly schedule? My opinion!

If they read this blog , they should not have to attend the meetings. Correct? According to this blog, all of the useful "intelligent" information is found here. Anything published in the newspaper, or any info supplied by current council members is driven only by selfish motives. Wouldn't they be MORE qualified by not attending and instead listening to the dozen "experts" that regularly post here. If you dont think so, simply go back to old posts and read all of the comments. This IS the pulse of the Valley!!! :)

1:42 there are thousands of Peru citizens who have never attended a council meeting, but that does not mean that are not interested in city government or serving in this way. I think it is great that there are four candidates and I agree with the mayor's comments in the paper.

When are we going to hear from the crazy guy who posts messages a mile long about how phony and corrupt everyone affiliated with the city is? He needs to tell us who the insider is. Oh wait. He won't say until AFTER that person is appointed that is was an "inside job." Cant' wait.

I don't care if they have gone or not. I care about what they do once they are there.

There is no suspense here folks. The person who will be chosen is Ballard. He is already an insider who has been on the planning and zoning boards for many years. His appointment as an alderman will then allow Harl to reduce the number of people on the planning/zoning board (which has been a priority for Harl lately) or replace Ballard on that board with another insider of Harl's choosing. Giordano will never happen. That's for sure. It is possible that Leynaud could happen as I'm sure there has been political wrangling on her behalf by virtue of insider connections between the local attorneys who are always eager to help each other politically. Harl has likely been promised somem political backing in exchange for appointing Patricia Leynaud. It's really not that complicated to figure out if you know how slimy politics works is conducted in Peru. James Lilley? I think not!

4:14 PM, So glad you are in agreement with Harl. That's very reassuring to all of us that you and Scotty are on the same page. We can all sleep well tonight. Someone provided a prediction based on "slimy" Peru politics just as you requested. Now, why don't you stop kissing Harl's ring and give us your insider scoop. Can't wait!

5:48 AM James Lilley, why do you think not?

I think Giordano will be the pick. I think he was a plant at the last election, and this will be Harl's way of paying him back.
