Right to Work is surrounding Illinois

Right to Work is surrounding Illinois

We are surrounded by Right to Work states and we are drowning in this muddy lake called Ilinois. Kentucky is interesting with not state wide right to work but zones where the areas make the decision whether to be or not to be.

I don't think "zones" are the way to go. We need statewide Right-to-Work in Illinois.
We also need to disband and consolidate at lest one third of our various "taxing bodies." I've stopped calling them "governments" because the term government implies that they serve the people. Most of Illinois' "taxing bodies" only serve themselves and are a drain on our limited economic resources.

Way too many townships. Especially Peru Twp.

Anonymous said...

Way too many on LaSalle County Board.
Way too many council men especially Peru Councilmen.
Way too many committees and boards especially in Peru.

Anonymous said...

Before right to work goes through - we need to reduce the taxing bodies.

Anonymous said...

Not gona happen here in il And yes debo and peru township need to go

Anonymous said...

The LaSalle County Nursing Home should be sold! Waste of taxpayer money.

Anonymous said...

Joe Osepinski Jr. has to go. LaSalle County Democrats like this guy have to go. I'm sure he will run for a position for the township in the next election. This kind of person doesn't need to be in politics.

Anonymous said...

Agree that the township has to go, remember debo was going to do everything by himself when he ran.... Lies lies lies Wasteful spendinf Rtw!

Anonymous said...

The recent comments have been quite a bit lacking in comparison to those submitted in the last number of months.
All, please be aware that your comments are paid attention to because in the recent publication listing the task forces names to discuss a city administrator there is a sentence stating that the public is invited.
Sadly, Peru has become a town known as having a government were very little is revealed to the public,
Peru was a better town to live in and raise a family when it stopped at Shooting Park Road and the kids went shooting their BB Guns in the Mertel addition or swimming all day at Washington Park. Remember when parents didn't have to follow their children around all day.

Has anyone compared wages between right to work states and states that are not right to work?

Lois, do you make sense of the majority of these short comments. If you do please give the rest of us a explanation or delete them. If a person has a business and it is legal I do not see any reason to criticize that person. It is his money, nor has he asked anyone for a million $'s to get it going. If it is someone or a group of someones that these commenters don't like they have identified the business why don't they personally go to it and express themselves. The blog should not be used as a personal tool to express one's personality dislikes. If the need comes that you have to be a full time censure shut the blog down.
The blog in another small town would be a much stronger tool than it is in Peru, since the majority of those who live in Peru are very naive politically and have full faith to this day, 2/28/15 that Mayor Don Baker will take care of them, he always has.

I don't know if Peru was a better town to live in in the 1950's & 60's but I do know that it citizens were so much more interested in the government of Peru and it representation and improvement of the town. There wasn't much to work with but they succeeded din making what little they had go a long ways.
It has to be remembered that this age group including Don Baker's leadership laid the foundation and built Peru into what it had peaked at in 2009. One wonders what Mayor Baker thinks of the happenings of Peru in the last 6 years?

Joe Osepinski Jr. tried to make part time lasalle county employees union last year. He believes government is for himself and those that are in his party. This is dangerous position, self serving alderman and county positions don't belong here.

How about the wasteful spending from Towne trying to convict a man who saved birds.

Your statement is not true in the states surrounding Illinois. They have much less unemployment than our state does and more job growth. Statistics do not back up your statement.

Anonymous said...

Yes they do just google it In a neutral party site of course

In right to work states, wages are mostly controlled by market forces. They are not held at an arbitrary level dictated by a collective bargaining agreement. Therefore, if you have more talent and do a better job than your co-worker, you will most likely be paid more. If your co-workers productivity falls to a level that it is not worth it to the employer to keep him on, he will be let go. Remember - employers have a revenue figure attached to each employee. An employee needs to produce more than he costs. Since not everyone is in direct revenue production, there are other ways to figure their value to the company.
Anyway - in right to work states, wages can go down for unproductive people. An that is what our system is all about. It rewards hard work.

Interesting fact from the state comptroller's office, the city of Peru 2014 had 94 full and part-time and workers and paid $5,217,000 and the City of La Salle had 150 full and part-time workers and paid $4,440,000 in wages.

12:01, it would be higher if they had an electric dept. they have many more part time help because of the swimming pool, that is why they employ more and have a smaller payroll .

12:01, that is because our workers are so much better they deserve more money [sarcasm]

Lois, with elections rapidly approaching in April would it be possible to give a summary of comments for Feb. and March before the elections. I would try but i believe I am not quite qualified.
Also would it be a good idea to contact all running for office to invite them to comment as often as needed. What they do with the invitation is up to them but a intelligent and honest official HAS NO REASON NOT TO COMMENT.

Anonymous said...

2:57 I disagree with you, very few on the council look at the blog, that goes back to the first blog, the reason, all the stupid comments that are posted. I know most of the people running and they will tell you flat out that they don't read the blog let alone post on it. If it was more legit, and the posts were with name, maybe that could happen.

I would hope that before the election that the library would host a question and answer, meet the candidate, or maybe even a debate between the three contested races for alderman.

Anonymous said...

@6:30 PM Everyone is entitled to their viewpoint and the methods by which they choice to express it.
The method that I find most unsatisfactorily is closed sessions, closed sessions of meetings of the hole and manipulation. As for a back and forth approach between citizenship and representation it is not happening, no one expects it to happen and most voters do not care for personal interchange with representation.

Anonymous said...

I think each candidate should send a letter to their potential constituents. They should include a business card just in case somebody wants to call them.

Anonymous said...

6:30 pm. Don't fool yourself. They most certainly do read the blog.

Anonymous said...

The question and answer session of the Mayor candidates in the last election was located at the Peru Library and hosted by a group of women from the Batavia area. The radio station also had interviews and debates. Considering the exposure of challenging candidates a form of debate is needed to familarize the voters with their ideas is a positive for both candidates, A debate would educate the facts of why the incumbent believes his policies are working and the challanger could express why he believes his policies would work better. Face to face personal meetings are a much better method for deciding who to vote for than the amount of political signs posted in front yards, which presently seems to be in some cases the only exposure a voter gets until the next election.

I still cannot believe that the business card incident went without any investigation or mention at a council meeting. And yet, the "family fun day" incident was made public knowledge by our mayor and thoroughly investigated by our police chief. And, wasn't the business card alderman one of the ones who pushed for the fun day investigation? It's a sad state of affairs.

Anonymous said...

The library "debate" is a sham. The candidates are given the questions ahead of time and simply read prepared statements. They don't debate each other and the questions are softball at best.

Anonymous said...

my 8:38 post should have included the Radio "debates".

Anonymous said...

@ anonymous 8:30AM
You have reached the 1st stage in questioning what you cannot believe. now will you process the next necessary stages or are you going to be as guilty as all others who have not investigated or mentioned the problem at a city council meeting. You have only yourself to blame for not utilizing public comment before and after city council meetings, speaking to Jeff before and after city council meetings or by phone, the local radio station and the open forum in the newspaper, making a direct contact with your alderman or Mayor etc.
There are many reasons to come out of the closet is this important enough for you to open the door and start stepping or do you only want to express your dissatisfaction on the blog? You must realize that the blog is a important stepping stone but only a stepping stone at best. Council meetings are on Monday nights with public comment at the start and end of each meeting.

Who would listen to Alderman? You have got to be kidding. This isn't a US Senate seat.
When voting check out the backgrounds and what type of person they are. Do they work hard? Do they raise their family? Are they educated? Can they work with others for a common cause? How do they treat others like family, neighbors, residents? Are they able to learn? Would they do this job without a paycheck? I usually vote on the values that a candidate holds. Everything else is just words.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10 You initially start out in question as to who would listen to a alderman than proceed to describe the perfect citizen ending up with would they do this job without a paycheck.
Where in the area or who out of the area do you know who does this job without some form of compensation?

Anonymous said...

6:45 they may read the blog, but the blog makes no difference. No blog does as long as it is anonymous people. Nor should it. It's just people talking back and forth.

I have not, nor will I ever, vote for someone who comments in a forum like this. Nothing against Perez but I can promise you that is why he has slowly disappeared from commenting on the blog because the election is coming up. If Lois posts this, that may bring him on here to comment otherwise, but public elected officials do not go on places like this and make comments.

There are plenty of ways to interact with the public and all do it in their own way. This is why it amazes me some of the crazy ugly comments that are made here. Most of you have clearly never met most of the aldermen personally because if you did, you would not say these types of things.

The other reason I respect that I believe Mr. Perez has stayed away from the blog is he posts things about social media and bullying but he can't do that and come on here and condone the ridiculous comments that are made here.

Sorry to tell you but if you think anonymous blog posts do anything to move the needle politically then you clearly do not understand how politics works.

I will save this one to show my friends when it gets censored.

Anonymous said...

Anon 6:45 and next commenter I am sorry but I don't see your sir names, what did you say it is or have you chosen not to use it?
Normally it is not the practice of someone to state their objections and than to repeat them immediately after.

Anonymous said...

10:00 AM why are people stealing and vandalizing Rodney Perez' campaign signs? Would you vote for somebody who would stoop to such juvenile tactics?

If you put your questions to the 2nd ward aldermen candidates, the answers for both are yes. They both work hard, raised their families, etc. Now what criteria will you use to make your vote?

From:Rodney Perez

First and foremost, I visit the blog occasionally, and sometimes a bit more if my name is mentioned and I'm asked by "whomever" contacts me to read a certain comment, and possibly address whatever is being discussed.
I do find many interesting, and informative comments on this blog, especially by those who choose to post anonymously. If I run across something that seems informative I will verify to find its facts, especially if it was left by anon.
You are correct, I haven't frequented the blog as much over the past month but it's because I am busy with campaigning along with researching the upcoming agenda items that is taking up much of my time. (Sand)etc.

In regards to your bullying comment I'd like to address that also; Yes, I have ran across personal attacks on this blog, along with other social media sites such as: FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc. but it doesn't refrain me from visiting, or interacting on these sites. Because I choose to visit social media sites where criticisms, and negative comments are made doesn't mean I "Condone" that behavior. There are criticisms, and bullying everywhere we go... It's not only in schools, and on playgrounds; it's at work places, golf courses, and even inside the walls of political arenas...from the White House, Governors mansion into City Hall. It's everywhere and we can't avoid, or hide from it.(at least I won't)

Have a great Day!.. And Thank you all for your continued support..
Alderman Rodney Perez

Vandalizing a campaign sing is a very serious crime in Illinois.

Anonymous said...

1:29 I highly doubt Rodney's signs are being stolen or damaged by his opponent. Now it may be his opponents affiliates (obviously) it's not fair to pin it on Rodney's opponent. (Sorry don't know his name) I would hope this blog isn't a place you would expect a debate or list of questions to be had for candidates. I support Rod because to be honest he's really the only one I know that does for the community. Anyone can work hard and raise a family. I want to see action not words. I haven't seen anyone other than Ferrari and Perez out working with the people and community. Dave Waldorf works hard and raises a family in fact they all do. But I wouldn't support any of them others especially Waldorf because he is not a people person at all. Period.

Anonymous said...

It is usually kids that vandalize signs, and they have no idea how serious a crime it is. If they catch one, I hope them make an example of them. It would be better than the stupid eagle trial anyway.

Now... saying that, wasn't it a candidate for South Ottawa Township that got caught red handed vandalizing his opponents sign a couple of years ago?

Anonymous said...

Pretty much all political candidates have signs stolen or vandalized at some point. It's just that most of them don't post it on Facebook or tell everyone, they just have the sign replaced. It's not a conspiracy. It's part of running for public office.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for your comments Rodney.

I respect you but to be fair I agree with the earlier comment that you and others in office should not come on here to address stupid things on the blog. People know how to contact you or any other person running for office. I don't think you should answer to people who can pretend to be someone else or something they are not.

People can say anything on here and whehn you validate some of the anonymous hatred that is here with legitimate comments I think it does nothing to help.

You are approachable but so are both of my aldermen including Dave W who gets ripped on here all of the time. That's a shame, and I am glad to hear that you do not condone that type of thing.

Anonymous said...

Wish as we may, we will never totally rid ourselves of the union leaches. Right to work legislation will at least limit their funding.

Anonymous said...

5:10, give me a break. Nice Comme t trying to soften it up. We all see that you don't like this forum by your comment. Transparency. I would be willing to bet you have somewhat of a tight affiliation with the city being an employee, alderman or a candidate. Truth and alot of it has come out of the magic box with the use of a magic wand. And a little fairy dust. Great blog site.

Anonymous said...

11:10 that makes no sense whatsoever. Rodney does NOT condone that type of thing. That means a commenter has t have an affiliation with someone? So what if they do?

Many of us get tired of it but we maybe don't say it. Go sprinkle your fairy dust somewhere else.

Anonymous said...

I'm 11:10 4:48. Go back and re read. You don't know how to comprehend what you're reading. In no way my comment was negative towards anyone. Sincerely, A Supporter of Alderman Perez.

Please keep in mind when making comments about political candidates that to maintain a level playing field for all, candidates, supporters and voters that the blog has requested to not be utilized as a forum for individual campaigning and discreet negative remarks pertaining to all candidates. To enforce fairness calls for not involving a candidates private life.

Anonymous said...

10:23, a person and how they conduct themselves in public and having good morals has some weight in whom I vote for.

7:41 Union leaches? Seriously. Aren't you the one that made your money from govt prevailing wages? Then retired from it with great medical, dental, and pension? If you are who I think you are, living pretty high off the hog with a big negative attitude huh. I guess I understand why people say what they do about you. Wonder how that election conversation is going for you.

Anonymous said...

7:41AM & 7:24PM Shame on both of you. Two fellow Peruvians showing such a lack of respect for one another. I know not who either of you are nor could I come close with a guess but a taste of your bitter comments makes one stay away from any thought of familiarization with each of you. Please remember this is a blog not a style show of ones dirty laundry.

7:24,

Never had a union job in my life. Never will. If I'm ever forced to pay "fair share" union dues (I'm still working for a living by the way) I'll figure out some way to get the money back. Maybe a make a deal with the owner to report on what the union employees talk about. In fact, maybe I'll write a pamphlet and have it distributed. "How to make extra money by reporting on union conversations in your shop."

Union OFFICIALS are nothing but leaches. You will never change my mind about that.

Anonymous said...

@10:26 AM You really, really don't like unions, do you!
