Peru Beings Plans for the Summer Fireworks

“The fireworks will be launched directly west of Peru Mall, and the west parking lot will be the viewing area,”

I thought the family activities were going to be held in the west parking lot of the mall. How can that also be the viewing area? Will we have to pay for the use of the land for the launching and how will vehicles get to the launch site?

As has been suggested and blogged about in this forum since last summer.

4:02 PM, February 23, 2016 -you should look at a map. In fact, look at the satellite photograph of the area that the City has posted on the web page. You will see that we have roads in this town. People will get in their cars and drive to the vicinity of the mall. Referring to the satellite photograph again, you will notice that the "west parking lot" of the mall is a huge expanse. Plenty of room to park AND set up a viewing area. OH... and heck, I bet some enterprising people will set up their own "unofficial" tail gate locations. Finally, look at the photograph again and you will note a utility right of way that is not planted. Also note that there is another Area 51 Plan that is not being discussed in public. But, will start this spring and summer. That is the extension of Wenzel Road to Plank Road. This will be an interesting bit of maneuvering because some property will need to be acquired. I wonder if Mr.& Mrs. "T" are onboard or will require some convincing. I know Agent "J" is all over this. Running that road will make this little bit of Peru prime for retail development... lots of commissions to be had. Lots of pipes to run. Lots of drainage and lots of water. This will keep the graft flowing in Peru well beyond the next election.

I would not have my heart set on this spot being suitable for the fireworks fest for more than two or three years.

4:27 Your post doesn't make sense.

6:27 How do you know that it will get bigger and better each year?

Anonymous said...

6:52 I understand and know how big the mall parking lot is but how can you set up booths, bouncy houses, and other activities and have cars entering the location? Remember Peoria St. will be closed from 36th to 38th. And, as of right now there is no road to the shooting site and that is what I was referring to when I stated an access road needed to be added. And you didn't have to answer so sarcastically. Makes me wonder who you are.

9:55, 4:27 thinks that because this was apparently mentioned on the blog at one time, that this is the evil Peru city council stealing good ideas and making it their own. What the city and rec board actually did was consider MANY ideas and suggestions to come up with a very sensible solution. I think this is a huge improvement and they want to be more family friendly. As for the haters that will rip the CSO volunteers and the beer garden area, I think this is a great solution. Nothing wrong with having a little beer area at the celebration of independence so long as it is kept in check. On this I say well done Peru all the way around.

Then there is 6:52. You will just never stop wasting space here will you? You are correct in that Peru is going to be developing that general area which is a GREAT thing. What you apparently can't grasp is that (1) real development costs money, (2) the people who own the businesses that to the developing and the land owners and the develops are all going to get paid and (3) it has nothing to do with an election and everything to do with development.

While you pout behind your keyboard the city just keeps moving forward and staying positive. We have huge momentum in Peru, despite the struggles of the Illinois Valley and LaSalle county and the state of Illinois. Peru handles these things in a very professional manner (although certainly not perfect all of the time, they are human) and we are getting more and more business headed our way and more to come. It is a slow and steady process. Slow and steady wins the race.

Now, please proceed to tell me I am a cheerleader or that I am an insider or some other bullshit. I am neither, but I am a business saavy son of a gun who knows how things get done, and I know business saavy when I see it. So while you hate every second of it, Peru gets more and more business saavy with each passing year. Let's hope it continues.

You are correct on all counts 6:52 AM. The Peru political hacks and insiders are happy to see people like 6:27 AM leading cheers about "bigger and better" in years to come at this site, but there has been NO mention of utilizing this location beyond this year. That's becuase this will be a one year deal for a number of reasons. First of all, the Mall is on board this year only becuase it's gouing to happen on a Sunday when the Mall will be closed. Any other day of the week and they will not be on board. It will be back in the Flood Zone next year folks. Also, I hope the farm owner up there tells Harl and Janko to stick it where the sun don't shine. Baker and Roger Chamlin tried to muscle and intimidate the old farmer years ago and they were promptly run off his property by the old man. Now you've got Harl and Janko sneaking around in the shadows trying "cut a fat hog" on that land at the farm family's expense. They are probably threatening "eminent domain" and the old farmer is too old to fight it. The heirs will be all too willing to cash in on the deal I';m afraid. There is absolutley "NO NEED" to develop the land west of Peru Mall. The usual cast of money-grubbing Peru insiders are foaming at the mouth waiting for the old man to give it up. What a disgusting pack of dim-witted elected vultures and greedy developers we have in Peru sneaking around spinning their unethical schemes.

9:55, the 4:27 post means that moving the fireworks to this spot has been discussed in this blog since last July 3.

To 11:09 AM, I could not care less if you "cheerlead" or if you are an insider (and I suspect you are) who benefits directly or indirectly as a result of political ties and or favors granted by Peru elected officials. What I will not stand for is you or anybody else referring to what Peru elected or appointed officials do as "savvy". How dare you try to intimate that any Peru growth has anything to do with any action or behavior tied to Peru's insider and elitist class. Peru has the advantage of a "long established" retail sales tax income that is the ONLY differnece between Peru and any other city within a 30 mile radius. Peru is no different from LaSalle. No different from Ottawa. No different from Princeton. Hell, Peru is no different fromm Tonica. Except for the sales tax. That's all. Peru is not special. They just have money coming in from sales tax that other communities do not and new business is more likely to locate in Peru becuase that is where many folks go to buy things. Back to my point 11:09 AM. The trend toward retail sales was established long ago in Peru and that legacy continues to roll on today. Now pay attention. NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, that comes to Peru in terms of business, jobs, development, or even recreation is determined by Peru's phony elected or phony appointed officials. NOTHING. Companies and businesses come or go based on research and study that originates within those companies. They are not drawn to Peru because of "savvy" elected officials or "savvy" appointed officials with phony titles with the words like "economic development" in them. The people you are trying to promote are more appropriately described as "sappy" or "sleepy" or "sleazy" or "sneaky", NOT "savvy". I will give Don Baker credit for starting the ball rolling but I will be damned if I will give any credit to the current group of arrogant know-nothings who continually demonstrate they have no idea what honest and ethical municipal government looks like. The retail sales ball Don Baker started slowly rolls on its own momentum. If and when that retail sales ball slows down or stops altogether, you won't be able to tell the difference between Peru and DePue.
Savvy my ass!

What are you talking about? You have got rid of most of the old guard. You won. Baker and all the alderman are gone. You got new mayor, new alderman and your still upset about Peru? Peru has a engineer and the old developers are retired. Eminent domain can't be used for the purpose of a shopping area. Your crying about 40 years too late. If the fireworks are a one year deal? So what, its worth a try. If the farmer sells his property for development? So what. That's their business.

11:03 AM, February 24, 2016. When it comes to the City of Peru, The County of LaSalle, and the State of Illinois - our government officials have only one thing driving them. Distributing tax dollars from the government coffers to the pockets of the crony business friends.

2:18 PM, February 24, 2016, peru is attractive to those people precisely because of the sales tax. Tax revenue begets tax spending. The more they get, the more they spend.

When is phase on the of the Area 51 Complex going to be complete? I'm waiting for Phase 2 - the new fire station and police station. Wenzel Road extension will require that the city purchase a section of land. Next comes "J" and crew. "J" is the real leader of the valley. He has been controlling things since the Johnson Administration. Nothing is approved without a nod from "J".

I think the 2:18 comment was responding to 11:03 not 11:09.
To 11:03, You have been served. lol.

There is no conspiracy here. Its just that a long time ago, "J" "C" and the Band discovered that the local government was the best customer. For the most part, the Local Yokels aren't all that bright and rarely question anything they say. The Yokels like to act like big shots and what the heck, it is not their own money anyway. All they have to do to get reelected is to make sure the fireworks shoot off on time and that the garbage cans are empty at the baseball tournaments.

Event the Education Industry Politicians are in on this game. Who else, but and "Educator" gets paid $200K for getting fired? Man, that is good work if you can get it.

Yup, Illinois Valley. All is well as long as the Graft keeps moving along.

That $200 payment to a fired school superintendent is exactly why we need to consolidate the districts in LaSalle County. A small town cannot attract the correct talent to oversee these types of things. If we had one LaSalle County School Board that governed all the schools - maybe it would attract more talent to be on the board. We need people from outside the field of education to monitor these "educators run amok" and rain them with reasonable compensation and terms of employment.

6:42.......what are these giveaways and who are the big shots? Your desperate and reaching for anything. Most educated individuals look for facts and don't make random non factual statements without those them there facts. What and who benefits from what development?
What educator is getting $200,000 from being fired? And who was the local elected that approved that deal? Your reaching out to Earlville and trying to link that to the local elected? I mean nobody is buying that link.
Please get the regular coffee and sit away from the conspiracy network at the local coffee house.

BAWWWHAWWWHAWWW!!!!
I have to thank the ten or so of you who contribute every day. Even when Im having a bad day, I can always count on you for a good laugh!
Thanks again.

8:55 I have news for you and then I am going to join the rest of the world and ignore your sad pathetic comments and you can listen to the crickets chirp while you talk to yourself. People who serve on school boards are not "educators" but they are people who get paid nothing to volunteer and serve after they are elected by the people.

But that is a big problem for you isn't it? Since you have such expertise why are you not running? Clearly you are so much smarter than the city council members, the school board members, the superintendents and everyone else. Yet your best argument is because one clearly had a personal problem with the law that we should overrule local control so you can create a huge school district. Okay. We hear you. That would be better.

Or you could just be a sad miserable person, and in fact the same one who rips on locally elected people, farmers and those evil educators. Yes. That's it. That's you.

I actually feel pity for you. I am also done here. Even the lies and gossip are no longer worth reading.

12:29 PM, February 26, 2016 - The Earlville School District Superintendent.

Anonymous said...

Why such a big deal about what Earlville is doing? That is about as interesting as s story from Texas. Nothing important going on in your city? I did hear that there is a new gossip column with features from a number of conspiracy authors, that may be worth a laugh. The recent topics here are mundane and clearly taken from the local news.

If you just read the news, you will find out that almost ALL school administrators have a huge golden parachute built in to their contracts. They are rock solid contracts and they only protect one side. There was a local administrator - could have even been IVCC but memory is failing me, that got paid over $100K after only a year or so on the job.

The point is that ALL of these people have learned how to game the system for their personal benefit. They don't give a rats behind about educating kids and the board members are not smart enough to see through their deception.

Anonymous said...

The fact that you lump ALL people in a group together whether that is ALL elected officials ALL Peru aldermen ALL school administrators or whatever else shows just how closed minded and ignorant that you are. It is no different than lumping together ALL people of a gender, race or religion. It is clear that you have great personal disdain for anyone who earns a dollar from us as taxpayers but good ones are worth a very competitive salary.

I am not in favor of wasting tax dollars but some of the people you are talking about have a large responsibility managing what would be the equivalent of a very large business and the ones who do their job righgt do the taxpayers well. To say all they care about is gaming some system for their personal benefit is really a stretch when they have contracts that are public and that pay them well for their services. I would not want some of those jobs and no one is beating the door down to be an alderman or a superintendent or whoever else you despise that I can see.

Your last comment about school board members not being smart enough leads right back to the earlier point that you are the same person saying the same thing over and over again. It is amazing just how smart you truly are while all the school board members are just so clueless. Based on your comments something tells me the exact opposite is true.

Its just tired. Really tired. Well at least you have a place to get it all out of your system I guess. Hope you feel betyter.

I saw a very funny cartoon the other day. A boy is talking to his father and he says "Daddy, when I grow up, I want to be in Organized Crime." The father looks up from his newspaper and asks his son - "Government or Private Sector?"
