City of Peru Sign Ordinance Re: Political signs
Both should be aware since one is a seated alderman and the other is a past alderman. Do they not know the ordinance?
Are you saying one of the houses with 2 Waldorf signs is Alderman Waldorf's house? He voted on the sign ordinance but obviously he thinks those rules don't apply to him.
There should be limit to total sign in city...the same person who was against signs last two election cycles now has over 400 out in the city with green and white colors.
My biggest question this round will be, do you think he will have to file election finance report. This signs have to be at least $6-8 a sign so he will surpass the $3000 mark. This would give voters a chance to review his contributions for his campaign. I bet it will list several other city alderman and officials as Waldorf explained to me, he holds the city's purse strings on road repairs.
And there you are folks. Evidently, he doesn't know or hasn't read or can't comprehend the ordinance. And, doesn't follow the ordinance. Where is the city's code enforcer? Why hasn't this non-compliant of a homeowner been issued a warning to remove a sign, and/or reported to the PPD, or received a letter from the city. Aren't we paying a high salary for an employee of the city to oversee this?
How can citizens know what the ordinance states and yet 2 of the aldermen, (Waldorf and Potthoff) who were a part of establishing it, are apparently unaware of what they established? Or, are they deliberately disobeying their own rules?
Here's some more food for thought: How do you feel about a current aldermen visibly showing his support for a fellow alderman? Now, understand that this is a candidate that he cannot vote for because they are in different wards. Is that going to make for a good working relationship should the opponent win and the current alderman will have to work with him? I think not! I think it's unethical and once again shows the kind of character some of our current administration possess. I, for one, am very disappointed in the actions and attitudes of some of our aldermen.
And yes, 9:08, one of the houses with 2 signs is indeed alderman Waldorfs.

Waldo isn't so dumb after all. It's like illegals are illegal but why inforce the law. It's a simple mockery to the system. That's how the system works today. The law is only goin to be inforced if it affects them. Double standard that's the way it's going to be. And if someone has the guts to bring it up at a council meeting they will become the one who is ridiculed by the clowns that run the town.
Actually, the two Aldermen that wrote the ordinance are no longer on the council. So, this proves the point. Most of the time - the council does not read the ordinance word for word. I for one thought that it contained provisions for one on each street frontage - but that provision is not for election signs. It is for charity event signs.
I beg to differ with you 1:18. I believe the ordinance was revised to include the 1 per yard while both aldermen Waldorf and Potthoff were in office. I remember it was done because alderman Waldorf complained that Peru looked trashy with so many signs all over. Let's quit playing games. The have both violated the ordinance and were well aware of its contents.
I find it rather humorous, that aldermen do not know the very ordinances that they probably voted on as written and read, and then they are setting the record straight on the number employees that are on the workforce that appears to be a half truth. Does anyone see a pattern that is developing regarding issues with this administration?
Many seem to be shocked at the number of alderman (past and present) who do not obey city ordinances. Does anyone think that the recent evening that a council was handed a document, never having time to read it but voted on it minutes later. Only Ald. Perez asked for time to read the document before voting and was refused. Does this explanation explain why members of the council do not understand ordinances they have voted upon but have never read.
yes... it took a long time to get approved. It sat in committee for at least one year. First the zoning board then the old "public property" committee. It was given to public property because of some provisions around the "Welcome to Historic Peru" sings. Frankly, nobody wanted anything to do with the ordinance because the State Law is quite clear and any local restrictions are an invitation to a court case. The ordinance needs to be scrapped unless we can convince the Supreme Court that these sings can be regulated.
I saw Lukosus "creeping" around the 3rd Ward yesterday soliciting 3rd Ward voters. Very creepy and unethical indeed. That is how these characters roll. Slinking around door to door telling lies about the grat job they are doing for the people. That must be why Lukosus's nose was getting longer and longer after each conversation with a 3rd Ward resident. I saw him taliking to an elderly woman and he had his fingers crossed behind him as he spoke. Sad.
What saddens me that alot of the elderly can be bull-----ed with a smile and friendly gestures. Many go by the old school in taking a person's word as gospel. Love the elderly and I was taught to respect them in which I do. The elderly that are current on our city's corruption should talk to the elderly who may not be. Make copies of council meetings, ordinances, closed door sessions, nothing better then informed voters, show facts and documentation to them.
Anon 6:39 AM I f anyone knows for sure please correct me if wrong. I think the city can make it own ordinance if the state already has a ordinance on the same subject, but it must be stricter not weaker.
Did anyone else see any current alderman actively walking and talking to residents in the 3rdd ward to encourage them to vote for the current alderman. Could happen in the second too.
If so this is totally unethical and would show how frigtened some of the current aldermen are of new blood on the council. Anyone who would do that has NO morals and would stoop to anything and should not be trusted on the council.
Of course the last election in the 4th imo, was not won fairly either.
Do people actually open their doors when somebody comes nocking? The only way you get me to open the door is if I ordered some takeout our I'm expecting a package to be delivered. No way will you get me to answer the door. In fact, if anyone does nock on the front door, I grab my pistol and check out the back. That's how those people operate. Somebody at the front door distracts you while their partner comes in the back.
Lois you are way off base with that type of rhetoric, what was so underhanded in the 4th ward that got your dander up, I'll fill you in, there was an agreement made to get backing for the township job that was not upheld by the person who got that position, he got greedy and wanted both, as far as one alderman backing another that is common place, freedom of speech and expression is great . I know with your ego you can't except things that don't fit your agenda, but there is two sides to every situation.
I know a pretty important official in Peru who has 2 positions, one with the city and one with the twp. Want to rag on him too?
As for as the aldermen backing one another, it might be done but it is unethical in my opinion. Makes this city council look like nothing more than the buddy system. You might be trying to re elect someone while his opponent might be the better choice to help with city problems. I know that is the current mindset of most of our elected but I don't think it is right and I don't think much of someone who does it. This is Peru not Chi Town. Your post pretty much says that this is what Peru is and that is an insult to this city which has so many good and honest people living here.
12:32 literally is telling fairy tales ("creeping", nose getting longer, fingers crossed) and someone like 1:36 piles on believing this nonsense. As far as I am concerned, anyone can go door to door and express their opinion and campaign. This is what campaigns do!
Only here can you find people saying it is "unethical" to back a candidate in another ward. Hilarious! Since when do candidates NOT do that? Are you telling me that Perez and Nelson are not aligned? Are you serious?
Next thing you will try to tell us is that this blog does not support specific candidates. Oh wait.......
As I posted on another blog area....... If your mayor, alderman, city attorney, ect......isn't representing you in a fair and ethical manner......make some signs and protest in front of their business or homes.......take your city back......for lords sake utilize the rights you have that make a difference but be prepared for the consequences. Threats harassment and those that disagree will become very vocal but if you have a riotous argument (no bid million dollar contract) you have the right. Don't block the sidewalk and be polite. Watch what happens.......call the trib, Ottawa, Peoria. Makes wonderful press and gets your point to hundreds or thousands......not 20 on a blog.
Thanks for your input. This gets much more than 20 visits per day, even tho the blog posts can be that amount. Most of the viewers are readers only. Our viewing area is pretty much nationwide and a little bit over and beyond that area.
First of all how can anyone vote for any individual who deliberately and knowingly violates an ordinance? We have 2 seated aldermen who have violated, and continue to violate, an ordinance that they themselves enforced and helped establish. One alderman even went so far as to violate 2 sections of the ordinance. Mr. Payton did you report these violations as you did your opponents? Also, to those who are hired to enforce these ordinances, have you done so or will you do so? As of tonight the violations have not been eliminated and the 2 signs/yard still exist. Let's see how long we allow the oversized signs to exist.

ReplyDeleteyes.... Waldorf and Potthoff where in office. The Committee that wrote the ordinance consisted of Mazak and Ankaiwitze. Sorry about the spelling....
