  1. Will they answer questions?

  2. Already trying to limit public attendance for the Task Force meetings. Typical Harl disrespect for the citizens of Peru.
He couldn't have mentioned this Task Force meeting last Monday at the regular council meeting right?
    Inconvenient time and place also.
They are going "hole up" at 4:00 pm in the conference room where there is little room for observers and no videotape. Sweeeet! Let the Rubber Stamping begin! Will the words "City Manager" be banned from the Task Force discussion? This should be entertaining.

  3. Start writing letters.

  4. 9:56 anybody who can attend at that time can also record the meeting. It is an open public meeting.

  5. I think if those usual people can't make the meeting the city should cancel the meeting and check the schedules of those residents that sit in the meeting and see if the city can reschedule according to the two resident experts schedule. After all the city should be run by those throwing hand grenades from the cheap seats.

  6. Best highlight of the day in Peru...watching "W" move all his signs!!!! #winning

    ReplyDelete
  7. Funny you should mention that 8:37 I saw Rod out moving signs around 7:00 too. What's going on? The video must've scared some candidates?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Now that Dave W has moved his signs I am sure that will be criticized as well. I'm glad he moved them. Another reason he has my vote.

  9. 11:18 pm, WOW! Aren't you an intelligent and informed voter. Sign placement is your issue of choice?
You wouldn't want to base your decision who to vote for on the trivial issues in this campaign like, Competititve Bidding or No Questions at meetings, or Wasteful Spending, or general lack of initiative and ability. Congratulations, you have officially joined ranks of the Peru "establishment non-thinkers".

  10. early voting result show Rod, Chico and Travis in big lead. letter to editor biggest reason according to exit polls.

  11. We need to send a fine to the property owners that allowed the signs in the first place.

It is NOT the candidates fault. It is the LAND OWNERS FAULT! They allow these UGLY signs! THEY SHOULD PAY THE CONSEQUENCES!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Lighted signs on 4th and 7th street are against the city ordinance in a residential area. Will those property owners get rid of the lights?

    ReplyDelete
  13. 11:18 Just for your information, he did not move his signs because he wanted to or was being an honorable candidate, it was because he was told to do so by his superior.

  14. "Exit Poles" - just who conducted these "Exit Poles"? What did you do, ask 3 people?

There was never a super majority vote for a contract, the vote was to retain the firm at no additional cost to the city. The rhetoric around using a super majority vote is nonsense. Does 7-1 on every issue constitute a super majority vote scare? Not likely. Should we play on the sign fear? One candidate places signs up 100 days before a election, another candidate place signs in a right of way, another puts up two signs in one yard, another puts up a big sign, another drives his car in the park with his signs. I went to another city and it looked like a carnival of signs. One thing I know is that the sign thing is crazy and no intelligent person votes for a sign.
The candidate with a good voting record and has accomplishments in his professional life and gives me a plan on what he is going to do or what he/she has done has my vote. Its your money and if you want drama, vote for drama. If you want responsible governing, vote for that. The wonderful thing about our country is that you can vote for your priorities.

  16. @11:18 Waldorf was informed the AGs office received a complaint so he ran before he was scolded with a news tribune article about him and Potthoff ignoring city ordinances and investigated by the AGs office.

  17. rubber stamp! This committee is a sham and I for one think it is time for the Citizens to take back our government. Vote them all out and vote in Council-Manager. End the Cronyism!

    ReplyDelete
  18. 7:13, you are so desperate you would make up anything to get a reaction, my exit pole is telling me Payton, Waldorf and Potthoff cleaning up, we can make up anything.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Don't you people understand that the government is in charge? They make the rules - they don't need help from the peanut gallery. They know better than we do and we need to follow them, that is the way it is supposed to be and that is the way it has always been.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Dave W does not have a "superior." He beats to his own drum and if you knew him you would understand that.

Exit poles? Lol. Some of you are going to be sorely disappointed. The three incumbents will win. Dave W, Rodney P and Dave W. I've not seen one compelling reason to vote for anyone else besides "they are not the incumbent."

    ReplyDelete
  21. @9:37 you're wrong once again. The super majority vote was used by the council for the 3 million dollar contract for Test because they chose to not bid. That was the reason for the super majority vote. Go research the minutes yourself and its clearly stated there too by City atty and Ald. Perez.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 12:15 PM

You are absolutely right, I was present at that meeting and recall that is how the vote was done and the results were obtained through a Super Majority and the city attorney did some explaining about Super Majority.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 12:15

That was not the vote! The contract is a 30 day out contract and can be revoked at any time.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 9:37 And no intelligent person votes for a candidate who violates the very laws that he enacted. That candidate comes across as someone who thinks they themselves are above the law yet they make a stink about others they feel might have violated an ordinance.

If your talking about election signs in a park, you don't know the issue

  26. Sherry Mayszak, gone but not forgotten1:42 PM, March 27, 2015

I can assure you that the only reason Dave Waldorf moved his signs is because Jeff King told him to. Now I'm waiting to make sure Dave Potthoff removes his oversized signs and his 2 signs per yard before taking further action. I have the proof. I have the emails exchanged between Jeff King, the mayor, the aldermen and myself. If Potthoff does not remove his illegal signs, I will post those emails on Facebook and give them to Lois to post here. Then you can all decide whether all candidates have been treated fairly.

    ReplyDelete
  27. they are not really laws... the way it is worded they are more like recommendations...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Most people who have participated regarding this sign ordinance would like to read the email exchanges to see the wording of emails. Remember tomorrow is another clean up day for garbage. Thank you to Alderman Perez for your consistency in organizing this for the beautification of our city. You go far above and beyond what we citizens ever expected of you when we voted you to represent us as an alderman. And Thank You to all those who have volunteered.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks for all you do and have done in the city Sherry gone but not forgotten. There will be a place and a need for you in the near future as an alder woman for the city. Please consider running again. We need more people like you who not afraid of the system.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anon2:38 and Lois is there a way for us to see those e-mails? I'd like proof in the pudding.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 12:21 I've been involved with municipal government for 34 years next week. all city contracts come with a 30 day- out its still a contract and according to "law" Any contract or spending over $20,000.00 must be bid or sent out for RFQs. The only out to that is by a "super majority" vote.

    ReplyDelete
  32. As of 4:00 today alderman Potthoff's oversized signs have not been removed. How much more time is our zoning inspector going to give him to obey the sign ordinance.

    ReplyDelete
  33. ALL signs better be removed on April 8th. Just in time for the Hillary sings to go up!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Also would like to see emails. Dates on them would be interesting. But, we all know dates can be manipulated or changed. Just saying.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It is now 6:30 and alderman Potthoff's oversized signs still remain up. Can anyone justify his defiance of the ordinance and now of the order given by the zoning inspector? dO you want someone like that representing you in government matters?

    ReplyDelete
  36. I am bewildered by this attitude. If this is what happens to someone after 26 years in office, then it is time for him to step down or be replaced. Outright defiance.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Never imagined out of all people would I ever thought Alderman Potthoff would be the one flipping off the city and citizens of Peru. I'm not bothered by his signs at all, I'm bothered by his "screw city ordinances-they don't apply to me attitude."
He needs to be held accountable the same way my cousin was for violating an ordinance.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm happy to say that Potthoff has switched out his illegal signs for smaller legal sized signs. Both Potthoff and Waldorf have taken away 1 sign from the yards that had two. I'm sad to say what had to transpire to make that happen.

    ReplyDelete
  39. thank you Sherry and now that ll signs are in compliance, this topic is over and further comments on it will be deleted.

    ReplyDelete
  40. And Rodney has moved his signs if city property. Good job sherry

    ReplyDelete
  41. Kudos to Sherry, Lois and all others involved who have shown the intestinal fortitude to express their beliefs. They have shown that "the little mouse that roared" is still a powerful voice in America.
Sherry, you were a outstanding alderman and now have shown yourself a role model in staying within legal boundaries and social mores to achieve what you believe creates a stronger Peru.
This entire group has shouldered the attitude of if it matters to you, it matters to us with fortitude in losses and continuous positive desires in gains.

  42. 8:04, getting a little sappy here, the only reason the signs were change because somebody brought it to their attention at a council meeting, they the council doesn't look at the blog except for Bernabie, who keeps them informed.

    ReplyDelete
  43. 9::48 AM

You are cluelss, sorry but I believe in telling the truth. There is so much involved and particularly FOIA which is what brought the compliance. Members of the council were well aware that some running for office were purposely abusing a ordinance they put into effect.
And come on now everybody knows that most aldermen do read this blog but would never admit it publicly. They would be foolish not to.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree Lois and I wonder why none of the other members of the council told their fellow alderman to correct their inappropriate signs. Don't they realize it makes all of them look foolish and defiant of their own ordinances.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Lois I guarantee you they do not read the blog, they would be foolish to so with the type of comments that are posted. Like I said Bernabie and Perez do, if they hear things it's from Bernabie. Lois you put out talking points on issues, that's fine ,it's the comments you allow to be posted that are innuendo, hurtful, sarcastic, etc. that make the blog laughable and disregarded as far as most of the council is concerned.

    ReplyDelete
  46. what happened at the rubber stamp meeting?

    ReplyDelete
  47. What a fool for anybody to believe alderman, mayor, and city employees don't read blogs here. They'd be lying again to say they don't.

    ReplyDelete
  48. 3:59, you overrate your importance, they don't read the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  49. 2:15. How do you know Bernabei reads the blog and reports to the mayor and council?

  50. 6:11 Ask anyone who works for the city, he can't help himself.
