Peru cracks down on ordinance-violating signs

Peru cracks down on ordinance-violating signs

What's the big concern, election signs were up  for about 6 weeks, and now they are gone.  It is a once every 4 years event and it will happen again and again. Peru has more important stuff on its plate, maybe it needs the residents to tell them what is really important and what is trivial.

Read this article in the tribune. Mr. King appears to be upset about the signs obscuring our landscaping and is now happy to have our summer code enforcement officer on duty. What can he possibly do about the political signs, they're gone. If there were violations and things that you (Mr. King) felt were wrong, shouldn't they have been taken care of by our full time code enforcement officer (which I believe is you)? The political sign situation only seems to become a problem for certain individuals and at certain elections, depending on who is running. We've had many individuals who have sat or continue to sit on our council who have themselves violated our city ordinance and nothing was done. If this is indeed a concern then let's practice what we preach for each and every individual in our town of Peru.

If the political signs were a problem why wasn't that problem addressed at the time? Surely someone at city hall is qualified to rectify the situation. The summer code enforcement officer can do nothing about things that no longer exist (political signs).

Does this also mean auto dealerships won't be parking cars on the berm ?

Does anyone know what Friday's Special Meeting at 10:00 A.M. is all about? The agenda simply states "Peru Promotions-John Newby". Why would this meeting be scheduled at a time when most people will be unable to attend and why such a short explanation?

must be a conspiracy!!! I am sure they are trying to pull a fast one on you!!

I love it Lois, It is hilarious how you only post the comments of the two or three narrow minded conspiracy driven people like yourself, even when they take shots at the elected and/or volunteer people in our city. But when someone reply's to their idiotic post, and make them or you look stupid, you wont post the comment. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, YOU GIVE THE 99% OF US A GOOD LAUGH!!

Made your day and posted your comment. Just want people who read this from wherever they live to know what we as residents of Peru are dealing with in our in our city or our government. Ask a question and they insult you and anyone that has ever attended a council mtg., knows this is what happens and a smirk to go along with it and yes I am talking to you know who.

I can say the same about you!!! Your whole blog is nothing but a string of insults directed to the people who run this community. Kepp up the good work, you make US laugh every day!!!

Sorry you feel that way about those who pay you to work for the residents of this city and so I assume that anyone who does not agree with you can be included in your comment.

You have vindicated what many of our residents already know and maybe that is why in the current election the mayor won but did not receive the majority of the votes.

Constructive criticism is good whether you realize it or not. Just fyi, I write very few blog posts, so you are criticizing many of your fellow Peruvians.

12:29 What is exactly wrong with asking for an explanation when city government calls for a "special meeting" and only posts "Peru promotion-John Newby"? Why can't a city official just post an answer to the question or better yet identify more clearly the reason for the meeting when posting it on the city website? Why do you consider asking for an explanation and a better understanding of a government post a "conspiracy"? Don't you think citizens have a right to know what their representatives have in mind for their city? After all, we pay their wages.

Drove around Peru this afternoon and was more than amazed to see the very sad condition of some of our infrastructure, mainly streets. Some of the streets are in such deplorable condition it will take more than just filling a pothole.

Does the Mayor ever just drive around Peru as Mayor Baker used to do?
Do our aldermen drive around their ward like long gone Eugene Piotrowski used to do?
The intersection of 7th and Walnut Street is deplorable and 7th between Walnut and Prospect is bad but not as bad as the intersection. Feel free to add the street that really needs some repair and lets give it to the city council and see what they can do to fix this city.

And yes I am complaining but only because the city is assuring us that they have lots of money and so use it to benefit the drivers through this city.

The very best way to find a answer to a question is to call or make a direct contact with those involved. If you ask for answers on the blog, you won't find anybody who can give you the correct answer.

I call my Alderman or Mayor or City Clerk to find accurate answers. Why don't you call any of them? A plus for accessibility.

3:03 Why can't an alderman answer an honest, simple question on the blog? That way the answer will reach more people than just the individual who would call them. I can understand their reluctance to answer some of the way out questions that some people post but, the question posed regarding "Peru promotions-John Newby" is an honest one.
As of yet I have not read any information regarding that meeting. Did I miss it?

I called and asked. That meeting with peru promotions was only put online because of laws saying if a certain number of council members attended they had to post. They were trying to get peru to partner with them for a magazine.

As for the roads, they said many are being repaired soon with projects. Some that may not be repaired right away would be because they are planned to be part of a sewer separation so it would be dumb to spend money to repair now when they will be ripped up in the near future for sewer separation.

Took 5 minutes of my day. Just to prove you wrong.

Amen 3:03. No one cares about a blog and no one knows who is talking anyway. They have an infrastructure plan. To imply that aldermen don't care about their streets is ridiculous. Just because someone complains is not why you take action. It has to be part of a bigger plan.

All complaints to your alderman, mayor or whomever you need to call should be taken seriously.

They used to be so if this is a new attitude, it needs to change. Someone who lives in a ward is more likely to see a problem that needs consideration than an Alderman who does NOT respond to problems, even though he lives in the ward does not been he is aware of them. Used to be called common sense.

I sent an email to the City Clerk through the cities web site and did not receive an answer regarding the mtg.

Our beloved police chief was calling the opponent in the mayor race telling him to move his signs away from the mayor's because he didn't think it was fair that they were together in places.
