2016 Corruption Watch: Chicago, East St. Louis take top corruption spots

2016 Corruption Watch: Chicago, East St. Louis take top corruption spots Is any city immune to the corruption so rampant in Illinois politics?

Food for thought:

Has anyone noticed the 2 porta potties that are at Veteran's Park? The city rents these from a local business. The necessity of keeping these up in the winter is in itself questionable but these particular units, because of the way the ice rink was set up, are only accessible when the rink is open.

Has anyone or anyone you know skated at the new ice rink in Peru? If so, any thoughts on location or use of the facility?

The dog park is used year around, and if there has to be porta potties out there, they should be accessible to those people.

10:25 Jan. 12th. So are you saying that we are paying to rent 2 porta potties that can only be used by anyone when the ice skating rink is open? That hasn't been often so far this winter. I do know, however, that the dog park is used frequently. Seems like having those 2 restrooms there are a waste of tax payer money to begin with.

I hope the city goes after Perez for his illegal campaign signs.

No 8:59 as 7:50 pointed out they are used.

Really riveting conversation here.

12:01 Re-read 7:50's comment. They say the restrooms should be accessible to those who use the dog park. They don't say that they "are" used. My point is if tax payer money is being used the 15porta potties should be available at all times, not only when the ice rink is open.

9:15 Here we go again. Please explain yourself. Where are the illegal signs you speak of and what makes them illegal? Back up your statement with proof please.

Come on Jan. 15th at 9:15. Still waiting for you to validate your statement about the illegal signs. Don't make statements that you can prove just to be vicious.

The proof was in today's newspaper. Signs on non-residential property are not allowed until 45 days before the election. Perez has signs on the Mirror Building. Those signs are illegal.

WELL THE NARCISSIST PEREZ VOTED FOR THE SIGN ORDINANCE AND THEN VIOLATES THE SAME THING HE VOTED FOR, JUST SHOWS HE IS ABOUT HIMSELF AND NOT PERU.

SAYING IT IS A RECOMMENDATION SO LETTING MY GRASS GROW 2 FEET TALL IS NOT A ORDINANCE VIOLATION IT IS JUST RECOMMENDED THAT i CUT MY GRASS??
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE

State law supercedes local ordinances. His signs are not illegal, you are interpreting the situation according to your own beliefs not the law. The article was a political hack job. There is no honest and thoughtful newsprint stories seen in this area. Our council has a habit of approving ordinances just in case we need them and not to make the city a more inviting location for people to live in.

I don't believe the state has a law regarding how long your grass should be and so the city can legally regulate that. It is interesting to bring up local ordinances that are left on the books even though no one has any interest in using them. Lots of cities have them. Maybe the city needs to hire a new employee to check out some of the useless, outdated ones we might have in Peru.

7:41 is correct, the signs on residential property can be up all year but those signs on the mirror building violate the city's sign ordinance. Perez voted for that ordinance but now he won't abide by it. Typical Illinois politician.

Can you direct us to the ordinance that you are referring to. The ordinance system is not easy to wade thru.

Perhaps your directions so all can read would help all to understand what is and is not.

The article made no reference to public vs private or residential to public.

10:44 If you go to the city website and click on Resident News on the right side and then click on Political Signs the information is there. I was not aware of the 45 day restriction however, I am quite sure in the last election many political signs were posted on business properties way before 45 days. I also believe the location 6:31 is referencing is Mr. Perez's campaign headquarters. People are nitpicking because of whose signs are out there, not because they believe a recommendation was violated. I am convinced (because it has happened in the past) that if any of the seated members of our current council did this nothing would be said or done. Sad, but true.

Is Rodney's campaign office in the mirror building?

Lois this blog is a political hack job, you all use Alternative facts to spin everything your way and against the city. I don't really care that the signs are up. This just shows that Mr Perez has no confidence in his ability to get the job done under the rules that everyone else follows

Get it straight 8:16. He is following the rules. This is once again all about someone running for a government position who is not one of the chosen ones. It's about someone who is interested in local politics and wants to perhaps make Peru a little better even while being chastised by a select group.
