Proposition Whether Peru City Council Should Continue to Persue Dissolving Peru Twp

This proposition will be on out ballots tomorow. For so long we have heard people express the desire to eliminate the township with its high salaries and its history of not doing much for what it costs to maintain. Twp road repair and care would be the main concern as assistance is a very small part of their budget.

My question is why is the Mayor of Peru concerned about the township? And who is he consulting with and receving his advice to move on this at this time?

Is it the tax levy that is received by the township and would this now go into the Peru Finances?

How about our City Administrator/Police Chief who is also a Trustee on the Twp. Board?

Initially when this came up in a discussion, I thought this is a no brainer, sure we want to eliminate the township but after much consideration I believe there needs to be an open discussion with the citizens of the city and our city fathers, all of them.

thats the problem in this town; people dont think before they do. The township isnt the problem it is the city and the 2 trustees who are also financially tied to the city who persons should be looking into.

I don't believe either that people who are currently employed by the city or benefiting financially from the city should be allowed to also sit on the township board in any capacity. Yes there are currently two very influential individuals who fit that description.

I never gave that a thought 1:40 Nov. 9th but you are right and, I believe those 2 trustees were all for dissolving the township.

I live in Peru Township and was not given the opportunity to vote on this matter.. that seems like an oversight.

I can't wait to read the NT articles by the leftist progressive reporter. Will all the facts get reported. I think the mayor and his progressive crew will have the upper hand.

The primary question we should all be asking is "Why does the mayor of Peru want to take over the Peru Twp?"

Will our skeleton crew be able to handle the extra roads including those outside of our city limits?

What if the La Salle Cty engineer says they can not handle any more road work?

Peru has more than enough roads throughout the city that are in desperate need of repair, why add more?

Cities that incorporate townships into the city usually have the identical continguous borders, Peru does not.

Why is the city of LaSalle not asking to take over La Salle twp:

According to the news tribune establishing the committee to look into this issue is being pursued by the mayor and I believe a December 21st meeting date has been set up by him. Doesn't sound as though the township is being totally involved in these decisions. Why is the mayor in such a hurry after all these years? Election time?

I see a person who saw the results of the election and is following through as he said he would. He is the only one doing anything about it. I don't see how he gains because of or for the election. It seems to me he is doing what he should be doing and if he wasn't, people would criticize that. This is why I have a reasonable amount of respect for people who hold offices that get nothing but criticism. Thankfully someone is willing to serve because this is why most people will never touch public office.

depending which "persons" you are referring to - I see persons who are only looking out for themselves and should look at what they are taking from the city and maybe cut their own budgets & expenses to save taxpayers money.
