Finally a legitimate reporting of the "honest and honortable" aspects of the plane event at Harl International Airport. Not a single quopte from any of Peru's phoniest in the NT story. That's how every newspaper story or description of the event should be handled. there should be NO self-serving accounts of the event from arrogant aldermen telling us what a great job a few of them are doing operating the parking lot at the event or what a tremendous effort is is on their part bringing this event to Peru. The reality is Peru's phoniest are spending a lot of taxpayer money on this event to promote themseleves. Word is already leaking out about some of the "special events" paid for with tax dollars that Peru's elitist elected and appointed officials have been taking full advantage of during this event. News of free dinners and exclusive gatherings all paid for with public money over the big weekend. Leave it to Peru phoniest to fill their bellies and their glasses while patting themselves on the back becuase they voted in favor of spending tens of thousands of our dollars to party it up in the name of local veterans. Real genuine guys these "mutts" are!

10:04, you really have some issues, the event was wonderful, there was no self promoting, most of all it honored the Veterans! Hide behind your little computer and complain, the real men and women were at the airport being honored..

You bring estimated 8.500 people to your town who buy gas, food, lodging and shopping and all you can do is find the negative to what "everyone" did. Not just Peru and ALL it's elected officials...but the hundreds of volunteers who donated their time and got here from quite a distance who also spent monies during their stay. You dear person are pathetic. All I see here on the blog is how Peru and everyone associated with the city are corrupt, there's nothing to do bitchin' and when they give a great platform for the City to get some very good International press, you STILL whine and complain. Pace yourself with the whining and complaining!! You will have to start again in 364 days when I hope Peru and ALL the volunteers do this again!!! This was a great way to say thanks to all the Veterans who did what they did.. so you my dear pathetic complainer, can do whatever it is you do! Shame on you for putting down an effort to say thanks to those who served!!

You have to be kidding me, This event is what you have asked for, family oriented honoring our veterans. All you can do is complain. Yes the Alderman stood out in the fields and worked the parking for the citizens and helped shuttle the WW11 Veterans out to the plans and thanked them for giving you the freedom to complain. There were so many volunteers that gave of their time to out working Saturday, and I would guess you sat at home looking for something to "bitch" about concerning this event.

On another note the main people who write on this blog and are truly haters of the city. RP,CP,LC,LD,JB you all know who I am referring to not one of you showed up. And I was looking.

Sad that you have nothing to do but look at who was and who was not at the patriotic event hosted by the city. I am assuming if you judged this to be an event worthy of your presence than everyone else should be there too.

My suggestion is for you not to be too judgemental because you don't know why anyone whom you deemed "haters" were not present. But you are probably the same person who demeaned me for not attending the Maude Powell event. Please take care of yourself and never mind the rest of the residents, they were doing what they thought was necessary and important on that day.

Anonymous said...

Lois,
Your group is the first to bash the city and its officials. You were also the first to commend passed elected officials for their community effort. This event was worthy for all to attend. As for being judgmental, all i was saying is that you were not there, and the bashing has started. It doesn't feel good getting a taste of what you and your group say about others.

As for the rest of the residents I'm sure they had plenty to do but they are not the ones looking for something to bitch about. I know people who watched from their back porch having coffee with their family.
Not judging them just your group of haters.

Srlf promotion was in full view on Saturday by Peru's phony elected officials. My family and I were there to honor veterans, not to have to watch elected and appointed officials abuse the situation for their own personal and poltical gratification. I have a question also. Does Alerman Lukosus own the airport? He sure acts like he does. Also, how much did it cost the taxpayers for the catered invitation only hangar party where alcohol was being served. You cheerleaders should put down your pom-poms until these two questions are answered.

Wake up, there is no group, end of story. No one that I know of meets and discusses anything about Peru. I am not affiliated with anyone and most of the initials you write about I have not seen for a very long time. You are than likely to see elected officials hob nobbing with each other at a local establishment than to see any of the so called initialed people meeting anywhere.

This is LD responding to your blog comment. How dare you insinuate that I hate Peru and was therefore not at the airport event!! I didn't have to visit the airport to see the planes as I witnessed them as they flew over my home which is in the path of the flight pattern. Not that I owe you or anyone an explanation but I will inform you that Saturday I was in Aurora attending my 4 year old granddaughters birthday party. I felt it was more important than being at the airport. On Sunday I was in Rockford all day watching my 9year old grandson play baseball. Again I felt that was more important than being at the airport. And, because I hate Peru so much (as you insinuated) I'm a volunteer and active member of the Park and Rec board.

Every one supports veterans. Everyone wants veterans to be recognized and appreciated for their service. Not everyone, myself included believes that a significant amount of taxpayer dollars, city manpower, city materials, and city property, should be used and abused in then process of honoring veterans. You can't just use the excuse "it's for the veterans" as carte blanche to use the peoples money to pay for all the unnecessary expenses the city racked up while honoring veterans. Go ahead and honor veterans all you like Mayor and aldermen, but stop wasting my money feeding yourselves and your family members while partying it up while honoring yourselves.
Nobody is more grateful than I am for veterans sacrifices. Peru's officials are using and abusing what veterans fought for. Dishonest government officials, like those in Peru did more of a disservice to veterans when they injected the corrupt Peru way of doing business into the event at the airport. I know because I witnessed it first-hand. If this event to happen again next year the Peru city officials need to be excluded from the decision making in order to keep the graft and corruption out of the event as it was this year. They can't even be trusted to honor veterans without helping themselves to whatever they can get out of it. Shameful!

what is really scary, is that 10:23 was watching closely as to who was not there. people do have lives, some work weekends, travel, have family. just because there were some that were not there that 10:23 thought should be there, does not mean they hate the city. hate is a very strong word to use 10:23, and the christian thing to do would be to apologize. there should be citizens in every city that keep a close eye on how the tax money is being spent. and because they do it they should not be called haters. be careful what goes around comes around 10:23.

Anonymous said...

LD
That is true you are very involved I will give you that. Have a nice day.

Anonymous said...

3:26 What does I will give you that mean? I take that to mean that you still believe she is a hater, even though she volunteers, not only on the board, but has also donated her time at rec events and planting flowers for the city. Just because she is interested in how the city functions and how money is spent she is labeled a hater. That my friend is sad.

Anonymous said...

10:23 You should be happy that there is a group that is watching out for your tax dollar. People do not trust government!

Anonymous said...

Sure hope those appointed by Harl for positions weren't driving city vehicles to this event and participating in the hangar party. Was alcohol served at the party???

Anonymous said...

the 3:06 comment should have been directed to 8:08, sorry I was upset when responding to that hate comment.

Anonymous said...

3:26 Your comment appears sarcastic to me.

Anonymous said...

7:39, what if that happened, what are you going to do about it , my guess nothing but cry about it on the blog.

Anonymous said...

Hey 8:08. Did you read April 18th 10:36's comment. It was obviously not written by one of your so called "haters" because they were in attendance and seemed to be quite upset as to what they witnessed. Since you were there 8:08 can you give 10:36 some answers as to the hangar party that he or she referred to? Were you one of those who was invited? It does seem as though the aldermen bend over backward to volunteer for events that put them in the limelight. How many of them volunteered for the "winter fun days", or the "flower plantings", or the "city clean up days", where no one is there to witness the work they are doing.

Anonymous said...

9:50 If that did indeed happen are you condoning that behavior by our officials and the spending of your tax dollar in that manner? At least 7:39 is bringing it to our attention.

Anonymous said...

Who was at the hanger party? And who was parking cars? And who was planting flowers? Does anybody really care about the volunteer work of those in office? I WORRY about what they bring to the table in helping Peru. You have some very bright dedicated public servants and you have many others that complain.

1:21 Please give us examples and names of those that abuse the system. And why would you be a better candidate?

Anonymous said...

12:34 PM, FYI - I know what Peru elected and appointed bring to the table...a HARDY APPETITE for comped meals and alcoholic beverages. That's what they bring to the table.
Stop apologizing for those mopes. They deserve everey bit of criticism they get. I don't refer to them as VIP's (Very Important Persons). Instead I refer to them as SIP's (Self-Important Persons).

Certainly dont mean to rain on any vet or military event , especially here in the Illinois Valley lol. But it seems to me that this is also an example of trying to make an unnecessary airport viable. So much of its usage seems to be for entertainment events, and its expansion is for recreational flyers, not business. This inevitably reduces the property values of surrounding lands and residential areas.
I dont see the plan for expanding the airport, or the need. This is not mean-spirited, its economics. The area is very well served regarding air travel already, and the expansion and contracts seem to just be political pork barrel (see Kristys well researched blog). The expansion does not do much but lower adjacent property values and promote an imaginary image of Peru being a fortune 500 mecca. In fact, it just lowers the residential values for some of Peru's growing higher end residential areas.
A real, commercial airport does not need concerts, fireworks, air shows, tractor pulls, holiday lights etc. In fact, they generally can't have them because they have planes landing and taking off all the time.

Great points 5:18 PM. Your comments are based on common sense and economic reality. You have exposed the fact that Peru's so-called "leaders" make policy decisions designed to influence peoples "perceptions" of Peru instead of honest, ethical, and intelligent economic truths. In Peru, the most important goal of the current group of elected and appointed government officials is to stay in power and be re-elected and re-appointed in order to continue to help themselves, their friends, and connected businesses that fuel the Peru "gravy train". The "perception" of Peru's airport as the most wonderful resource in the history of the universe was on full display and being perpetuated by Peru's phoniest at the council meeting last Monday as the geniuses were busy inflating their egos as well as the importance and success of the weekend's airport event. I can honestly say that I love and honor all veterans. I can also honestly say that at the same time I loathe dishonest and phony politicians like those in Peru.

1:53
You are pathetic Peru's elected officials are out at an event that they didn't have to be at. instead they showed up weeks advance to be part of a great event. On the day of the event those same people were standing out in the parking lot making sure people new were to park and then helping the veterans and families that needed assistance.
As for the hanger meal after the event they were invited not as officials but as volunteers, you make it sound as if they were there just for that.

The food that you saw them eating was for the firefighters, police and other volunteers who worked the whole day.
So before you judge them maybe you should get the whole story and not just assume they are there for a free ride.

5:18, most of the factories up north wouldn't be here without the airport, OSF wouldn't be here, Marquis out of Hennepin wouldn't have their place there. You don't have a clue, Harl thought the same way and found out differently.

Anonymous said...

1:53 Still nothing and no information. What did these SIPS do? Who had cocktails and who was drinking those martini's? Your nothing but a sore loser.

Anonymous said...

12:34 And you have many who volunteer only when it puts them in the limelight or they get something in return for their efforts. To me, those are not true volunteers and they bring nothing to the table.

Anonymous said...

7:54 You make no sense other than to pat our officials on the back. Why in the world would they show up weeks in advance of the actual event? Somebody had to show people where to park and since our city officials approved the event why shouldn't they volunteer their services? or would you rather they use your tax dollar to pay private services for parking cars? The point is they did volunteer work and apparently got rewarded for doing it and public recognition for doing it. Do the cub scouts and others who volunteer to clean the streets and plant the flowers get the same recognition and rewards? Just asking!

Anonymous said...

9:38 I don't think any of those public officials got any rewards and don't think many of them asked to be recognized. Who got rewards? Just asking!

[start snarky sarcastic remark]

How much money was made on this event and what are we going to spend it on? I think Peru could really use a nice taxpayer funded golf course just south of the new Municipal Compound. Almost everyone in Peru is retired or will be in a couple of years, time to start making things for them to do. A city golf course would make us the envy of the valley! Better than "tree city" buffalo burgers.

[end snarky sarcastic remark]

2:32 I can't prove it but it seems as though some people witnessed some type of food and beverage activity in one of the hangers for invited guests (city officials) only. And, I would bet there is some truth to that rumor.

Anonymous said...

11:01
So let me get this strait. You made an accusation that the city officials are getting all this free food and drink, but you cant prove it.
Secondly if they were invited as guests what is wrong with that?

Anonymous said...

12:06 Did I mention the word "free"? Think not! Did I accuse? No! I said some people witnessed something. Period. It's over, it's done, forget it!

Anonymous said...

The "elitist hangar gathering" when events take place at the airport is becoming bigger and bigger with each event. The food and beverage costs to Peru's taxpayers are becoming bigger and bigger also. Peru's elected and appointed SIP's (self-important persons) are already planning to spend more money on the "affair" next year. Sorry, it's invitation only Peru taxpayers. You can't come but you will "pick up the check".

Anonymous said...

2:37 and 3:25
So if you volunteer for Special Olympics, Relay for Life or planting flowers and there is a gathering afterword would anyone be invited to come and eat and drink, when the gathering is for the people who worked and gave of their time?
It could be just a thank you.

Maybe next year you should volunteer and you would be invited to celebrate with the all the others who worked that event.

Anonymous said...

3:25 IF they are getting free food and drink provided by Peru taxpayers they are breaking the law and this is serious enough to contact the Attorney General. I also doubt that any of these public officials is charging food and beverage to the city. Please give us proof and more than rumors. Who? What? When? And how much? All city expenditures are public record. This is another of the 500 different attempts to discredit your current elected with lies, rumors for the sole purpose of getting someone elected that otherwise wouldn't get elected in a one person race.

Anonymous said...

9:16

Sometimes those people do get elected in one person races. There are a few examples of that!
