Marseilles big winner in park upgrade - The Times: Local

Marseilles big winner in park upgrade - The Times: Local

As a part of the greater Illinois Valley area, time to note where and what is happening to improve the life of those with disabilities. I believe the Rotary Park in La Salle is also friendly to children with disabilities.  If you know of others please let us know. Consider this a post to let us know where special facilities are as people will often travel to them.

Burke: Voters spoke 'loud and clear'

Burke: Voters spoke 'loud and clear'

Good article and and thankfully for the city of Dixon, its residents were wise enough to change their government. Sounds like the results and changes have been a positive for the city.

Changes won't and don't happen that easily in Peru.  The last attempted change to several at large aldermen failed because there was too much outside interference.  The oddball setup as described by the N.T. currently in place testifies to the difficulty this city will have in the near future with a government structured for a long time efficiency.  We are currently have in place a working (?) setup and only until an act of God or man gives us a sign that we need to move forward and to utilize a less cumbersome government will we be prepared for a long term and efficient type of city administration.

Dixon's first city administrator: Taking job ‘worth the risk’

Dixon's first city administrator: Taking job ‘worth the risk’

My link may take you to page 2 and just click on Page 1 to get to the first page.

Why am I posting this hire of David Nord as a City Administrator in Dixon IL ?
Prior to Mayor Harl setting up our own Administrative Task Force, he spoke at a council meeting and said he had been to Dixon and talked to people in the administration and the fact that they had a task force which worked for 18 months (believe this is correct) and then decided to hire an Administrator. Now we have a play on words or simply misunderstandings, the new hire David Nord is listed on the city web site as City Manager and he does have a degree from NIU and also previous experience in government. They got results and we got more of the same.

Also they hired a Superintendent of Public Works or should I say the City Manager hired the super because his job allows him to do that. Sounds like the City Manager will be up for evaulation next and to be hired or not within the next year.

Peru may revamp unusual administrative structure - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

So the question is how long is the life span of this organization? Will the mayor run for re election?  How will we know when one of the wheels falls off of this non replaceable structure? If it is sudden, will it run on auto pilot?

"Is there a regional resurgence?
If we have a bunch of people come in and people start staying in the hotels, where are the hotels? They’re in Peru. So Peru benefits. We want coordination. We should be feeding off of each other. If Peru does good things, that’s only going to benefit us. If we do good things it’s only going to benefit Peru, Oglesby, Spring Valley. We really need to promote ourselves, this whole area as a community. If you’re going to get people coming out of Naperville you can’t have just the Uptown and expect they’re going to come here. What benefits one should benefit the rest."

Now we need the inner circle of Peru's elected to believe the same as so many of us do and a good number are still stuck in the Peru is best way. (Peru Town Forum comment)

New Look on City Web Site and Council Videos

I see that the City Council videos are now being hosted on You Tube which is giving a much better sound to them. Not sure  I like all the pictures on the city site so I clicked on the you tube icon and watching them there gives me a little more control of the video without distraction. Interesting that the last mtg has not been posted and the next mtg is this coming Monday.

La Salle's synergy helps revitalize downtown

La Salle's synergy helps revitalize downtown

People talk about the growth and redevelopment of La Salle and this very good article gives us some of the clues. Yesterday we purchased gas in La Salle on our way to Ottawa and looking inside of Becks, I see the word COMMUNITY in large letters on their back wall and that pretty much says why the above is happening. When you have the community at your back, you are doing something right.

Again we were not able to attend either of the events this weekend but friends have told me it was well attended and enjoyable.

"Perhaps the biggest impact on the downtown in particular, though, is the efforts of the city, business owners and business groups as a whole,

Sharing an example of the unseen blog posts.

"Lois you have got to be THE biggest Hippocrate on the face of this earth. If Peru were to put up a Mural or fancy sign, YOU would be the first one all over it asking why our elected officials would waste money like that. DO NOT TRY TO DENY!!!! YOU WOULD BE ALL OVER THAT!!! Thank god 98% of the people who look at this blog are there only for a good laugh! "

Is this person a part of our city government?  Tell me why someone would be so hateful about an interesting topic that many cities around the country have become interested in. Should Peru do this? I doubt that they would ever even consider it. Go into You Tube and search for either city murals or Walldog murals, Walldog cities and you will be amazed at what many cities have done. I've been told that Streator will be hosting a Walldog event in a few years. I'm getting the feeling that Peru is trying to isolate itself and I hope I am wrong.

I only post topics that would be interesting to our city or our area and oft times those that other cities have been successful with.

Brief details crushing weight of pension costs for Illinois municipalities

Brief details crushing weight of pension costs for Illinois municipalities

Out of control Illinois legislatures helped to create this chaos in our state.  Peru now has almost enough revenue to keep paying but not entirely. We need new people willing to look at new ideas, like the control of pensions removed from the hands of our state legislature.

September 29 Program on Route 6 at LaSalle Public Library

Join us on Tuesday, September 29th at 6:00 p.m. when Larry McClellan presents, "Travel America’s Longest Road…Voices from LaSalle Highways, U.S. Route 6"

With the establishment of the federal highway numbering system in 1926, Route 6 was designated in New England. Its eastern point was Providence Town, Massachusetts, out to the tip of Cape Cod. In 1931, LaSalle, Illinois sat on US Route 32, but this changed to Route 6 that year, as the highway and its designation was extended farther west. By 1937, the designation had extended all the way to Long Beach, California, making it the longest federal highway in the country.

Close to home, in LaSalle, the highway was known as Third Street, and at another point, Fifth Street. For folks heading west, it was nicknamed the Sunset Highway. Find out about this familiar, yet fascinating road, and its history as a national reminder of the Americans who fought the American Civil War.

This program is free and open to the public, and is possible through funding from the Alwin C. Carus Trust. The Library is located at 305 Marquette Street, LaSalle, Illinois, and is Americans with Disabilities compliant and welcoming. If you wish to attend the event and have special needs because of a disability, please contact Donna Blomquist at 815-223-2341 to discuss arrangements

SINCE PERU IS ACTIIVELYPROMOTING ROUTE 6 THIS WOULD BE AN INTERESTING PROGRAM TO GO TO.

La Salle to force compliance from absentee landlords - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

La Salle to force compliance from absentee landlords - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

Looks like a full and interesting council mtg. Particularly regarding rental units and this is exactly what Peru needs to do and to put the information out publicly. How many rental properties do we have?  Do we have standards that landlords need to comply with and do they comply ? Do we charge them a fee?

Years ago I was told by an official that La Salle has the most problems but it wasn't true then and isn't true now. The boundary between the cities does not exist for those who live in the area.
