This practice needs to be outlawed. If our elected officials can't do the job, find new ones.

A brief article in the NT. It sounds like our "street sweeper" has caused an environmental disaster.
Prediction: We will buy a new street sweeper before the end of the year. Co-incidence; there just happens to be a company that makes street sweepers up in Timmy's stomping grounds.

Anonymous said...

They just bought a new street-sweeper within the last year or so. I wouldn't be surprised to see them buy a new one because of a blown hydraulic hose. Anybody seen the new $400,000 Vac-Truck out and about? Will be great to see how long it takes the novice city employees to tear that unit up. That's if they have anybody willing or able to run it in the first place. Anybody heard anything about it?

Anonymous said...

Haven't seen it in my neck of the woods yet this year.

Anonymous said...

relax.it was a private contractors sweeper. sorry.

I heard our hospital screwed up again. Now Medicare is questioning their abilities. First the IRS, now Medicare. I hope they sell it to St. Francis so we get some qualified management.

Anonymous said...

2:13, no we did not. We bought a sewer sucker from a manufacturer in Streator. We bought a new pumping truck for the FD that required a factory visit by elected and appointed officials. But I recall no street sweeper being purchased lately.

Anonymous said...

7:56, the city purchased a street sweeper in 2014

Anonymous said...

7:56, OK good to know. Who did we buy it from? Just curious. I searched the NT and there is no mention of it.

6:53, I'm with you. All you have to do is look at the non-medical leadership at that place and you see plenty of good old boys from the Illinois Valley. They need an influx of management resources that come from some other place. Preferably another state. But definitely outside the LaSalle-Peru area!

Anonymous said...

We should start a petition to ask St. Francis to buy our hospital.

Anonymous said...

We bought a new street sweeper because I see it Monday through Friday working . the old one which still worked was given to the company we bought the new one from for no trade in value . Another fact that proves Peru is to stupid to make money , they'd rather give it away . Towns around us offered to buy it but we just gave it away .

Anyone else see the fire trucks being used at the CSO picnic . I guess that is a fire department function now and Drinking and driving programs are not , kind of ironic . Drink up some more in public council men and woman , then drive home !

Anonymous said...

5:46, you are such an idiot who hasn't a clue of what was going on at centennial park today. It wasn't just a car show, it was a family outing the CSO and the city put on. You crybabies are always complaining the the city doesn't have any family type of things going on. I don't think they served any beer that I saw when I was there,so unless you were there to verify it was a beerfest, keep your thoughts to yourself.

Anonymous said...

653 you don't know what you are talking about-read the facts that hoot all is a top notch facility with dedicated caregivers. The last thing you want is someone buying them out- ask anyone that this has happened to. It is so important to support your local facilities you never know when you are going to need their services

R ember pumper truck for fire dept. Needed repairs, so instead of repairing it, spend hundreds of thousands and buy new. Where did the old one go ? ????? Heard a couple years ago someone who is a full time employee told their child to drive their truck because it has firefighter plates and they wouldn't get pulled over and get a dui late at night while having an evening of cocktails.Yes, I could verify this with true honest witness. Wonder who I'm referring too?

7:32 PM

Relax and your comment may have been well intended but it was rude and I doubt you are a CSO member. We drove by at 8 PM and all was quiet in the park. . The CSO most always has beer at their events but did not notice that was available at this event, checked a sign on 815 Life online.

9:51, "top notch"? You must have low standards. Unless you want a hip replaced, they just button you up and ship you to Peoria or Rockford.

Anonymous said...

Lois , I learned how to post rude comments from your blog along with some you have posted

Anonymous said...

10:00am, the city also purchased a $16000, ATV for the engineering tech so he run up and down Peoria st. Bernie knows how to hide things

Anonymous said...

7:32 the event at centennial park yesterday was a city event? I thought it was a CSO only event? I think 5:46 is referring to the tradition that the councilmen and woman stop for drinks after every council meeting and then drive home.

Anonymous said...

9:09, ah yes. The "after glow" meeting, where all the real decisions are made.

You know - they just fired another university administrator for corruption. This time using private email to get around FOIA reporting requirements. I wonder how much city business is done via yahoo mail... I wonder how many city smart phones have private email accounts set up on them.

Anonymous said...

Is the CSO a part of the City of Peru? Or it is a separate entity that files it own tax return? The CSO tax returns (if they are their own entity) would be interesting to FOIA as would the Liberty Fire tax returns.

Bounce houses should be against the law. They are nothing but germ traps. Imagine, a bunch of barefoot runny nose kids rolling around on a filthy rubber mattress. Disgusting!

Anonymous said...

What happend to that secret commission that was investigating the need for a city administrator? Did the give the wrong answer?

Anonymous said...

9:56- you should ask Mr. Payton to get the IRS info from the CSO. He is the Alderman in charge of making sure local non- profits file the correct paperwork. But then again, maybe that is only for ones run by people he doesn't like. Another Peru tradition

Anonymous said...

5:46 pm The CSO is not part of the city of Peru. The CSO is not listed in the city's budget, so therefore, they are on their own. So why was there a fire truck allowed to be at the CSO picnic, when the fire chief has specifically stated that fire apparatus are only to be used for fire department events and city parades. I guess it depends on who you are whether you'll be granted permission to use a fire truck.

Anonymous said...

3:52, as a taxpayer I don't have a problem having a fire truck at any function that brings joy to the kids that get to go up in a bucket. This was a wonderful family oriented outing in our city, quit your griping.

Anonymous said...

I remember reading that Perez wasn't allowed to have fire trucks at family fun days. Rodney can you verify that?

Anonymous said...

Reading tonight's paper I understood this picnic and car show to be a City of Peru and CSO combined effort. What is wrong with having a fire truck present. I would think that at the next combined effort a police car could also be present to exhibit some of the technology available. The C,PFD, Jeff King, should be commended for allowing the use of the fire truck.

Anonymous said...

2:55 pm Why would Alderman Payton be in charge of non-profits filing the correct paperwork? Why would the city in any way need to know that information? A friend told me that Alderman Payton requested the tax returns of Operation Promise. Why would he want that information?

Anonymous said...

9:39 You should ask Rodney about his use of a City of Peru fire vehicle in the recent Mendota sweet corn parade. And what is the problem with parking a fire truck at the park?

Anonymous said...

11:06-
jeff king ,commended??? you must not know him very well!!

Anonymous said...

8:37 I am sure Rodney will post those forms on the site and provide the complete transparency. Nothing wrong with him using a fire truck for the sweet corn festival, he drives a big rig and has a good driving record.

Anonymous said...

Alderman Payton
Is not doing anything for the City on Not for Profits. It has something to with his regular job.

Thanks one of his clients

I see nothing wrong with parking a fire truck at a city of peru event as long as Chief King or someone approved by the Chief is there to show kids and make sure everyones safe that gets in it. I also have no problem seeing our trucks in out of town parades. What I do have a problem with is Rodney always assuming everything anyone does without his knowledge is corrupt. I see comments posted here on practically every city official we have so I am going to give you my opinion on Mr.Perez. I think Mr.Perez doesn't have a chance in h**l of competing in a mayoral race in Peru. I think people were tired of seeing Rodneys picture in the paper every other week. There are tons of people in Peru who do a lot for charities, fundraisers etc who don't want the recognition and do it because they love volunteering and helping people. I am sure Rodney enjoys helping people but dear lord enough of the pat me on the back picture taking.

Anonymous said...

Why would an insurance salesman care about not for profit IRS filings?

Lois said...

Here I go again, time to stop the comments on private citizen Rodney Perez who also happens to be a volunteer fireman. If you have something to talk to him about, call him. If you want the world to see the comment put it on the Peru Town Forum FB page where you will be known by who you are are and since I have a large following, it might even reach more people.

I am working on a write up about Operation Promise within the next few weeks. About how it began and what has since become an involvement in a negative manner with the officials of Peru. As far as I know this is a widely accepted educational organization that works with teens and local schools to promote safe driving for teens and keeping them from drinking and driving.

Still curious as to what happened with the recommendations that were approved, voted on, and submitted in writing to the city council by the appointed Task Force Committee. Are we, the citizens of Peru, going to once again be left in the dark until our representatives have all the t's crossed and the i's dotted? What's the big secret? The committee was given only two choices - yes, we need an administrator or no, we don't.

It will be interesting to see where the money goes and who are the vendors that are getting those fund raising dollars. I see a lot of tshirts worn by the project organizers. Its a good program and would like to see the finances, it might get more involved in operation promise.

Anonymous said...

1:42 maybe he does more than sell Insurance.

Anonymous said...

6:56 AM Yes he does investments too. Perhaps Mr. Payton wants to help Operation Promise with their fundraising efforts by helping them with investments? NOT! He is stirring up trouble for no reason. A nice program for kids about the dangers of impaired driving and the consequences of a bad choice and Mr. Payton is going to try to make trouble? Petty and low on his part.

Anonymous said...

i don't know if this has been addressed already, but what's going on with 251? it was just paved and already there are several "bumps" that need to be repaired. i think peru should get their money back!

Anonymous said...

So 6:56, is he a Private Eye now? Is he working for Barnaby Jones?

Anonymous said...

9:03 List the expenditures and that will clear up any misconceptions. Were any of those officers paid for a service? The donations prove that income has been given and there is support. Just list all the expenditures from the organization over the last few years. There can't be that many. Then let's close this discussion and let them continue the good work.

Anonymous said...

9:41, why should Peru get any money back, that's a State highway and their project.

Anonymous said...

11:06 Why are there any misconceptions? Who is involved in a discussion that needs to be "closed"? All officers donated their time. Asst. Chief Duncan and his family donated loads of time, and they did a great job. If somebody thinks there is any funny business going on with donations, think again. If you want to see the tax returns, go to Operation Promise Facebook page, which is open to the public, and see them for yourself. Or better yet, (wo)man up and call Perez yourself and ask for the details. He's very transparent and would no doubt give you whatever information you request. Don't hide behind anon.
