Nice to see they met with people that are appointed by the chiefs. Maybe next time they should ask the employees how things are actually running in the city.....

After reading these minutes it just reinforces my opinions of the incompetence of Peru's aldermen. Especially Sapienza. Sappy makes it clear he and the other nit-wit aldermen should be running the day to day ops of the city. Sappy is concerned about the council maintaing "power and influence". He knows having a politically appointed city administrator will keep the power and day to day ops under the control of Harl and four aldermen. Sappy never says anything about his lack of knowledge, qualifications, and intelliogence to run the city, but he still wants that power. Reading these minutes is just painful and humiliating as a citizen of Peru. Sappy is 60% sold on city administrator and 100% full of himself.
As for the other deputies I can only say god help us all if Deputy Duncan aka Deputy Fife is in charge of anything other than putting his fireman boots on the right feet. It is hilarious reading the answers these guys are giving to the Multiple Choice Question of whether things are going A / Better, B / Worse, or C / Same. The Harl Task Force just lobs the softball questions right across the plate and the deputies smack them right out of the park. It is very funny to see how the canned testimony heard thus far by the Task Force has already convinced them that Bernabei already runs the city and we will have to roll up the sidewalks if Bernabei should ever retire. Sappy made it clear that Bernie has to get the job because his research of other cities proves that all administrators of other cities last only five years. If the testimony by these people wasn't so damn predictable it would be funny. Instead it's just really sad that we have elected officials like Harl and Sappy who are staggering drunk on power.

But we all have to give credit to the one alderman who stepped up to answer the questions, even soft ball questions. My question is was he chosen by the others or does he happen to be the only one with enough integrity and respect for the Task Force to say yes to coming to the mtg.

Was he hand picked by Mayor Harl?

I have become convinced that the aldermanic form of government is no longer viable. I can communicate by email with any Department Superintendent or the City Clerk. My questions always go directly to the individual and my alderman never know what I am concerned about. By bypassing my alderman I eliminate one level of what could easily turn into miscommunication and understanding.

And if we had a City Manager, he could effectively field almost any questions any resident has and if need be direct the question to the proper person.

Is it surprising that many people don't even know the names of the aldermen in their ward? This is outmoded government.

Duncan said things haven't changed at the fire department since chief King took on more duties. So, we really don't need a full time fire chief. With the big salary. Also, I noticed Duncan didn't give the number of calls a month which he could have given an average. Is this because we really don't have that many and they want taxpayers to Bo believe there is alot. Also, task force didn't ask Duncan his credentials and certification. Also, the fire dept. Has one meeting a month, that's all?? Come on people, open your eyes up. Yes, all fireman should have been given a questioner and asked how the dept. Is going without having to sign their name. And questioners should be put in a locked box whereas nobody could see the writing and who filled it out. This is how you get the truth.

What is it with your worries about "Peru names"? They are from Peru. Just like people in other towns and cities are local names. If they were out of town names you would cry because they never higher local people. Quit your freaking whining and apply for the job if you are qualified.

It's not what you know, it's about who you know. That's just being honest 3:03.

I have talked to employees and they are afraid to say anything negative because Bernie's secretary is taking the minutes and they are afraid of retaliation once she fills him in on what's being said.

All city employees are scared to tell the truth . It's been proven before by those that have tried to speak up . Which is why I've heard one of the last groups of employees is looking for union representation just for a little job security. Peru is so corrupt and full of its self.

How dare you lois to publish anything remotely positive about any of our elected or appointed officials. I read this blog because of all the anonymous hateful posts.Really!

@10:24, you also got sprinkled with fairy dust. You are so far off on your comment. If you only knew the truth.you need to ask a few people who will tell you the truth who know the truth. What qualification does King have to have been appointed the jobs he has? Plain and simple here. Has he ever had electrical experience, plumbing, concern work, construction, etc..?? I'll just start here with questions. Certifications, trade school? College degree? Associates? Bachelors????

I heard that the Unions have told the City Employees to keep their mouths shut in no uncertain terms.

he task force is nothing more than smoke in mirrors folks! Take a look, the only people being interviewed are the people who have no choice but to say how wonderful and great ....you see they are appointed by said people. So really they are just wasting their time and ours because we are reading this crap. You really want to know what is going on in the City of Peru, get ahold of some of the people who actually work for the city instead of milk it dry with the big administrative salary's and you will hear a different tail than the current rainbows and puppy dog tails picture being painted. But they will never do that because we wouldn't want to hear anything bad

Anon 9:51 you nailed it! My husband was one of about 5 of the employees who were interviewed. He and the others had to say what they did and paint roses about how the city is running efficient. We all know at end of day administrators would make life hell for anyone who spilled the truth. It's silent retaliation. They do things in a way not even unions can help them. Take Heidi, Watts, and the Plumber for instance. They know they can't cross this admin. Or life would be hell so they all just go with it. One of the guys who is a favorite at the city flunked a drug test. I assure you if anyone other than him flunked it they would've canned them. We are a pretty close nitched bunch but at times even spouses become fed up with what we are told when they get home. If my husband could be as lucky as some of the recent workers who have resigned with a good paying job he would be gone. I assure you those who recently left or who will be retiring soon do it because of how the city is run.

3;56 PM When you state that Peru City Administrators do things in a way that not even unions can help them. As for two of the three mentioned union, relatives, political connections should not have any influence over occupational wrongs committed by each,as for the young lady from what little which leaked to the public I judge my personal thoughts as unfair because I know and liked her.
If city employees are leaving city employment for a better job it is great otherwise they presently have the best jobs available in Peru group wise. As for working conditions I have never seen a public utility vehicle or private concern with more than 2 employees as passengers traveling to a work site but sadly 3 is such a common occurrence in Peru that no one including supervision pays attention to it. The average pay is considerably higher than the average town pay, as well as fringe benefits. To any retaliation please do not answer my comment with attempts of some crocodile tear jerking story as I earn 40% to 50% of their yearly average salary, as for benefits I have a program which is sensible in today's market and worked last Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a 10% incentive above normal pay. I have two holidays per year without pay, no personnel days and approximately 50% of vacation time. I have applied for city employment approximately 9 years ago but have no political connections,

Regarding the 3:56 PM, this is like a whistle blower comment and as is my policy of the past and I will continue, NO responses will be posted unless they are signed.

Sorry I am receiving the typical nasty negative comments in response. Give me logic and your name and they will be posted. Not name calling. D

I have attended all the Task Force meetings and I know all the people who were interviewed and some I have known for a long time.

3:56 PM They also made sure they got ride of Perez and Mayszak. Speak out against the city in any way and you are toast! Retaliation is alive and well in Peru.
