City Directory | The City of Countryside, Illinois

City Directory | The City of Countryside, Illinois

This is the city right above Peru in the so called "best city for business".  It is a city of about half our population and located in the Chicago area.  As I read the names and titles of those who actually run the city, I could only smile and decide to share with you. Hope it does the same for you.
Actually it is so different from Peru that I don't know why they are located so near to each other on the article.
I also read one of the city news letters in which the mayor encourages residents to get involved with the city and sign up to receive their email "blasts". Do you think this is one of the cities our mayor goes to visit?

Task Force Minutes June 6, 2015

You will see that each and every alderman was invited to make themselves available to be interviewed.
It was announced at the last mtg that:
two aldermen replied that they would be available: Ald. Sapienza and Ald. Payton. The latter did not come because he was at the Finance mtg. So at the meeting Wednesday, Ald. Sapienza gave his opinions and his answers will be in the next minutes. Hold your comments until then when you will actually have his questions and answers to read.

Recreation Board Mtg Thursday June 25 re: Fireworks

On the agenda posted today, the meeting of the Peru Recreation Board will meet to discuss the cancellation of the July 3 fireworks due to weather related conditions. Even a week of dryness would probably not dry the land on which the fireworks are launched and displays set up. I believe this is the second time in 3 or 4 years time.

When the fireworks are contracted, some of the cost is paid up front is my understanding.  Is it refundable, I don't know.

It is really time to get serious about choosing a new location, do you agree?

Water Street is becoming increasingly more industrial and not recreational. A joint celebration with La Salle is of course the ideal and logical solution but not one that I believe Peru would be interested in. Peru has always wanted to go their own way and does not share very easily that I can remember. The airport evidently is out due to FAA regs. Do we have another place suitable that people can agree to?

Lets put the money to something else, maybe a splashpad that could be used all summer and not looked at for one evening for about one hour.  The businesses on Water Street should not depend on the city to provide them patrons. Perhaps they (businesses and/or local organizations) could have a celebration for families with some other attraction to draw them to the area.

Ideas??

Task Force Meeting Wednesday June 24, 2015

I wonder if this group will soon be making a decision on how to advise Mayor Harl on how to proceed with management of this city.

They do answer questions so if you have one, plan to be there.

Want to post a sign in Peru? Check here first - LaSalle News Tribune - LaSalle, IL

I don't know about you but I am thinking what a joke after the blatant misuse of political signs a few months ago. I also noticed that they did not mention political signs maybe because of state law regarding them. Also see nothing about garage sale signs, are they excused? Does the rat count as a blow up fixture? What about the signs in the triangle that seem to be up in abundance all summer long?

Will the council have a discussion about this or just vote?

Weed and Feed

Weed and Feed (click and read)

And then in Peru:

Minutes of the Recreation Board show approval of weed and feed by Turf Solutions  These minutes were just approved on Tuesday.

Communications:  Janice read a letter from Ray Zborowski , head coach, requesting use of the east field at Veteran’s Park from 8/3/15-9/15/15 for the Peru Parkside Boys Baseball team.  Lynda saw no conflicts.

Turf Solutions will do the weed and feed this spring for the fields $1347.00, already budgeted. It is too wet to spray just yet.

It took some time to find out that yes we do spray the ball diamonds used by our children, although it appears there is no communication between this recreation group and the administration of this city because I was informed parks were not sprayed even though I asked if the city sprayed or did we hire this out. I also understand this is done twice a year.

The article I shared is from Washington state but the information about the products does not pertain only to them.

Don’t Give Up On Good Government

Don’t Give Up On Good Government

I think they are referring to our city, too many politicians in it for themselves. Tonight at the  council meeting 8-0 to the hiring of Bob Vickrey without one word of discussion, not one. I don't think there have been any closed sessions since the election (not sure) so where did these discussions take place.  Shouldn't the public be informed that we are giving away some  of your tax dollars to a startup consulting firm? What other cities has he helped and what is his record?

The information regarding Oval Wacker Consulting is located near the end of the package. Don't pay too much attention to page numbers as they do not appear in the proper sequence.  Easiest to go to End and work from the last to the first. It appears that Oval Wacker will report to the ASM.

Also the Task Force will be meeting Wednesday and will also go into closed session.  It seems that their time has been wasted shamefully and the ASM (city administrator) only needs the elected to give him the official title and probable wage increase. That should be no problem in view of their past history.

Wonder if the Civil War statue or Maud Powell figure are shedding tears for the city they reside in?
