This is not a function of government. It would also require a considerable investment to convert classrooms into offices / businesses. Everything from telephone service to every former classroom to air-conditioning, computer network infrastructure, locks on the doors, etc., etc.
Nope - I would strongly oppose any use of public funds on an endeavor like that.
What we need to do is hold the school district to their word that any environment concerns are dealt with and the building is totally demolished and the property made ready for new construction All in a timely fashion. I don't want to hear a bunch of B.S. about how they can't afford it now due to cuts in state funding. If that building is still here next summer I expect the city to file an injunction against the school district and force them to take action!

The incubators will not be a function of the government..that's why they will successful! Galesburg has done it for years...local businessmen and businesswomen will be the guiding force and everyone will benefit.

Who will pay for it?

Private enterprise?

Local and regional businesses will invest in the incubators.

Sure they will. Meanwhile, there will be an empty building waiting for millions of dollars in upgrades.

The armory building in Streator was already set up as office and light industrial spaces. It did not need significant changes.

Turning a school into a business center is quite different.

Nope - lets just hold the school board to their word and make sure they tear it down quickly before they spend the money on some other nonsense. It was a perfectly good school - to bad.

Not in Peru folks! Peru officials do not welcome innovation or any concept or idea they cannot brand as their own. If they could have kept it secret the phony economic development director would try to buy the property from the school district for a dollar and then sell it to the city for $100,000.
Just like he and Harl are in the process of arranging the condemnation of the old Marathon by the High Rise so Vickrey can buy it cheap from the city. Will be interesting to watch the phony spin they put on that sweet deal when it happens.

sure they will.

Since Vickrey owns buildings on all sides of the former Marathon except the high rise there has been speculation that he was making a secret deal for the city to purchase this property to make a parking lot for his private property. Most likely Vickrey would want the city to own it rather than himself considering cost of maintenance, insurance taxes etc. plus the fact that there are no other needs of parking in this area besides for his own business property.
This particular self centered business deal using a city political position for private gain has been and is being watched by many. It is time for Vickrey to prove his worth for Peru or resign. Holding 2 positions, with like objectives, is not quite a conflict of interest but it sure walks the line. That old adage of serving 2 masters should be strongly looked at in Vickery's positions. If one position can fill either bill then let the county be the master and pay his wages (or is he still a volunteer with EXPENDITURES).

Anon 9:23 AM Standard procedure for Vickrey to gain from this property would be for the city to purchase it at a closed session. most likely a cushy curve similar to super majority would be utilized. The city would than provide Vickrey with a parking lot paid for and maintained by the city in between his own property. How much does it cost to have a person on budget who works for no pay and only expenses?
If the city council has question as to the above they should take a ride to Water Street and have lunch at that new specialized hamburger joint next to the electrical plant, or is that 6 month deadloine been extended?

they should sell it to "scrappers" for a buck and let them tear it down. We all know what a great money saver that is.

Why is there no coverage on township

I heard road fund is broke and secretary continues to work full time.

Are we ever going to get that cleaned up?

The "road fund" needs to be done away with. 7.5 mile road district. give me a break - total waste. those roads should be turned over to the city and the county.
