Right to Work is surrounding Illinois

Right to Work is surrounding Illinois

We are surrounded by Right to Work states and we are drowning in this muddy lake called Ilinois. Kentucky is interesting with not state wide right to work but zones where the areas make the decision whether to be or not to be.

Peru City Admin Task Force approved but not without a dispute

Peru City Admin Task Force approved but not without a dispute

I could have predicted this vote. Those who work for the mayor voted for only including the city administorator, but not a city manager. What did you expect that is what the mayor wants, those are the "pocket aldermen" The 2 aldermen who think long time in the best interests of the city voted against it. With only one choice, what is the purpose?

IMO Peru Mayor Has An Agenda - An Administrator to Work For HIM

Does your city have a City Manager?

Does your city have a City Administrator?

Reasons why?

I know this blog reaches a wide area and would like to hear from you personally.  this blog has already received comments on the possibility of the city of Peru hiring an Administrator to do the mayors bidding because that is whom he would be responsible to, along with the city council. The chain of command with this position is Mayor- Administrator whereas a City Manager would be City Manager - Mayor.  There you see in black and white the reasons behind the mayors choice.

My question is "Is there some self serving benefits to those who do not wish to hire a City Manager?"  Change in "09 has turned into more of the same.

He would like us to be able to record officials before and after public meetings among other things.  Sounds like a good start for this suburban State Rep.

Special Meeting Regarding Sale of Peru Rail

This looks rather mundane at first glance but I have been informed that it is much more in depth and may possibly affect companies already in the area west of Walmart and not necessarily in a positive manner  In other words this is not a complete description of what is actually going to be discussed.

As usual the details are vague.

Bruce Rauner and the Winds of Change - Ricochet

Bruce Rauner and the Winds of Change - Ricochet

Sounds like we need to listen tomorrow 2/18 to the Governor's budget address, as some of this fallout will directly affect all of Illinois.  To me it sounds like Home Rule might not be the be all end all for Home Rule cities, if we are going to become responsible for the mess we have created with little state money coming our way in the future.

Do Aldermen Read the Disbursement Sheets From The City Monthly

Before this gets any bigger than it is, I want to make a comment. Since we, the citizens, are not allowed to ask questions at City Council Meetings, we can only assume that what we see on the Disbursement Sheet is correct if it is not challenged by the mayor or council members.

With that in mind, I do remember seeing a disbursement for business cards for Alderman Waldorf and I believe it was for $42.00. I stated before that I asked the city the reason for this expenditure and received no answer. I have never heard that there was a challenge to this disbursement.  Other residents evidently also saw this and have commented on it previously.

As Alderman Waldorf always says No questions, only comments please.  If there is a legitimate reason, it should have been brought out at a council meeting as a correction and not left to linger and have people wondering for months about this expenditure.  This is not a huge amount of money.

This led to a question, Does the City of Peru routinely pay for business cards for all elected officials running for office?

The expenditure is not large but has led to question the cities motives of "why"?

Perhaps Ald. Waldorf could clear this up for us.

Public Services Mtg Monday Morning Will Discuss a Public Service Complex

Discuss new Public Services building complex-Doug Bernabei/Eric Carls

Currently there are 3 buildings in use for equipment, trucks, mowers etc. The original and oldest on Peoria St., one down on a road in the southwestern part of town Main or Market St., not sure which but it is a kind of isolated area and the one where the dump truck was stolen from last year. And then the Park Barn near Washington Park.

Doug Bernabei is our Police Chief and Administrative Director of Public Service and Eric Carls in the City Engineer.

Rauner’s Illinois Revival Project

Rauner’s Illinois Revival Project

Explanation of Gov. Rauners new order and how this will affect unions in Illinois. This state is in such bad economic condition that something needs to be tried. All talk of jobs coming here are useless until big change is made to get companies even interesting in coming here.

We will continue to lose people and business until reform occurs.

New week February 8, Comments and Complaints

The Good ole boys network did it again at Mondays council meeting. Ald. Perez said at 7:25 they were all handed a 25 page government agreement between the city and the school district to demolish Washington school and none of them read it not even the school superintendent. Ald Perez asked to have time to read it and the council said it didn't need to be read and council passed it without reading anything. ANON blog comment.

Also can someone either verify or clear up a post that was made on here and which I clearly don't understand. They posted that a few years ago our Mayor Harl met with a corporation that was interested in coming to Peru and would supply about 500 jobs and the mayor asked if they would be Union jobs and they answered NO and he said not interested. What do you know?

Non Union State Employees Will No Longer Pay Dues

CHICAGO (Feb. 9, 2014) – Today, Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner issued an executive order to stop collecting “fair share” union dues from people who work for state government but who have opted out of being a union member.
Illinois does not have Right-to-Work law. Because of this, most government workers must pay money to a union in order to keep their job. Employees who choose not to belong to the union are forced to pay “fair share” dues to the union instead. However, today’s executive order ends that practice.
An Illinois Policy Institute report,“Anatomy of influence: Government unions in Illinois,” illustrates how government unions use the money collected through forced dues.

AmusementTax - New Road Construction - N. Peoria (Old Business 51)

Perhaps this topic needs more eyes on it as there were none before it suddenly gasped for air before the attempt to submerge it beneath the eyes of the voting public known as the residents of Peru.

No public money for private business for that business to make a profit.  I am sure that many local businesses would love to have had this type of incentive to begin or improve their privately held business.

For months I have heard about the Harl Amusement Tax to be associated with the proposed new theater but details were sketchy at best. If citizens were present at a meeting Mr Vickery simply said it was an ongoing discussion but we all know that this has involved months of closed session discussions.

Suddenly the proposal was made public and  a look at the information indicated it would be  unfair to some already existing businesses.. The to be taxed list was long and covered any and all forms of entertainment except charity etc.  Suddenly entertainments most people take part in which had never had a tax associated would cost more  IN PERU.   It would be illegal (?) to tax only the theater and leave all others alone and to tax all would certainly be bad business.

How much money was spent to have lawyers put this on paper?.

This is the transparency we were all promised in 2005 and 2009 and it was never meant to happen. It was all a smokescreen for votes.

And no announcement has been forthcoming about the needed construction of a new road for movie goers to enter and exit this complex in this already crowded area which dead ends at a local bank. And that entry/exit could very well be on the North Peoria road (old Business 51) which is narrow and many times crowded and needs numerous Stop signs to keep traffic controlled in a safe manner.

Does our city have any long range planning in mind or just as it comes to mind planning?

Maybe the city would like to put this idea up for a referendum. Let the people decide if they want to pay for this idea.

Sounds like this new hire won't be helping with our connection to city issues, either.

City of Peru Web Site

Fatal error: Class 'JFile' not found in /home/cityhall/public_html/modules/mod_roknavmenu/lib/RokNavMenu.php on line 73

Some people will think this is funny but those of us who "used to" communicate with the clerks office with questions and foias'  are very irritated. What I have posted is the message I receive whenever I attempt to make contact with the city and this has been going on for at least one month.

It is in my opinion a symptom of the problems that exist in Peru, so add this to the list. I personally have 2 friends with the same issue and each of us uses a different browser.  I don't have problems using my computer and communicating with anyone else but the issues with Peru don't go away.

I have an outstanding issue with the Zoning Inspector and the same problem was presented to a First Ward Alderwoman and neither has got back to me with an answer or the problems in solving this issue.

In this day and age, this should not be a problem so big that you have to use only one of the browsers available to the general public  and not have that posted on the city web site.

Are they waiting for the new IT employee to be hired to solve this issue? We don't have enough "worker bees" now?
