Welcome to the Unified Fire Authority

Welcome to the Unified Fire Authority

Only for information as this is located in the state of Utah. I found it interesting that the fire departments within a certain range have become the Unified Fire Authority and the Police Departments have become the Unified Police.   Maybe this is the way the future will look and maybe not. No criticism, this is only something you might find interesting.

This is precisely the direction that we need to go. We have to many rural towns in close proximity to each other. They can never have professional services on their own. We need to kick in and create a district.

Who was the firefighter plowing snow on the Peru fd jacket at a local watering hole?

Anonymous said...

I heard there is a fireman who does have a small business plowing snow.

I would like to know what Mr. Perez position is on nick's emergency lighting? According to the last city financial report we paid him 7900, who is verifying these rates are even close, why would a city paid employee on both police and fire be allowed to work on city equipment as a charge, can you say conflict of interest

I believe there are a couple fireman that own plow businesses . Ive seen several plow trucks down there from time to time .

I heard there is no set pricing for when Nick does work for the city . We were discussing this the other morning when we saw him working on a fire truck. He does work for the city and bills us whatever he wants and we pay it. Doesn't the city employ a mechanic to do this work ? I believe we do ! But we need to keep our buddies well fed and pockets full of tax payers money . Why do you think they allowed him to construct a pole barn within city limits which is against codes and ordinances ? Because once you're in , you're in . The only way this will change is with a mayor that knows what's going on in town and Rodney quits abstaining and talks about what goes on in the fire house . We need to break the silence and save money and get rid of our crooks robbing us blind !

Your comment was mistakingly removed but I am sure the PPD does operate under different guidelines than the rest of the city and going out for bids seems to be handled in their house. You will not see anything like that under discussion but the charges are always listed in the disbursements. I have asked questions but received no answers. I think you need to talk to your aldermen about this but I'm betting no information will be forthcoming.

7:25, the city has a mechanic in the Public Works, his job is to maintain the PW fleet, he isn't an electronics or radioman, city didn't hire him for that, before Nick they had a firm from the Tonica area take care of the radio's etc.

I will not vote in the next election. I have had misgivings over the last several years with Alderman Perez and his abstaining from voting on fire department issues. I do commend Rodney Perez for stepping up to the plate for organizing nice family events though. @7:25- I agree with your post. The silence needs to be broken. Yes, I know there are choices of who to vote for. I'm just saying I won't be voting at all.

Anonymous said...

OK - I'm just asking, but would it not be more cost effective to purchase the vehicles from a company that supplies them ready to go? Why do we purchase an incomplete product and then hire out the work to get the radios, light, etc.?

Anonymous said...

9:58, if you do not vote, then you become the problem.

Anonymous said...

We don't vote for officials that abstain from voting on anything controversial.

9:58, his competitor will be abstaining from every insurance related vote.

@7:25 9:58 In fairness to Alderman Perez I can understand his reluctance in abstaining from voting on fire department issues. You can be assured that being a volunteer fireman has been a big part of Rodneys life and his familys tradition and they have prided themseves on this service to Peru. I also believe that any thing that he would do in regards to the PFD or any member of this organization he would be blackballed and eventually be thrown off the department for some made up reason.
The PPD has been a issue which has been revisted many times for many reasons in front of the admistration and council. None of these elected individuals who are all equally responsible have questioned activities of the PFD and its activities and numerous promotions. Who are the aldermen committee members of the public service department and what activities have they initiated in question of the PFD.
The 3d ward aldermen have a designated rsponsibility to the citizens when speaking of the PFD. Ald. Waldorf is Public Service Committee chairman and Ald. Sapeinza gives the fire report Ald. Lukosis and Mueller are also members of this committee.
To vote is one if not the most important right you have and hopefully you reconsider. I would never tell someone who to vote for but I do believe in the power of our vote and I always have and always will no matter what the stand of a candidate is. Fortunely for you there are two candidates in the 2d ward.
Please everyone, select who you feel is the best candidate and VOTE.

9:58 Not a chance. He will understand any issue related to insurance. He will not abstain and his company is not involved in any insurance issues with the City of Peru.

Anonymous said...

Would it be fair to say that anybody that would be in a business regarding insurance if they were in the business should also abstain on all insurance issues? In a union, abstain from voting on when accepting bids from Union businesses?

Anonymous said...

Why is the last city council meeting not available online yet? This is maddening. If this is Connecting Point's problem, they should be FIRED! If this is Boss Harl controlling which videos make the website, he should be impeached.

If you don't vote, you have no voice. I will always vote because I am a woman, and I know what women had to do long ago to get the right to vote. It is an honor and privilege to vote, and it would be a disgrace to those women to not vote!!

Anonymous said...

He does not need to abstain unless it is his insurance company that is as issue. Rodney on the other hand is really in a tough position being on the fire department and city council member, because in all actuality he is an employee of the department that is under the city. This is a hard call.

Anonymous said...

LOL, the city mechanic doesn't know electrical! If anyone believes that!!!!! You should look for another mechanic.

Could a vactor truck be used on a day like today?

You are so right. I believe I have only missed one National election. I do confess to not voting in school elections only because I don't know what I need to know to vote for a candidate.
Voting is a privilege.
But I believe we are know dealing with a huge portion of uninformed voters on all levels and it is an issue we need to face and solve if possible.

11:17 Your post is the prime example of why people tire of the baloney. Your either working for the city or placing a vote, until recent legislation allowed employees like firefighters to vote it wasn't a problem. And you have no obligation to abstain from votes, unless it serves your purpose of telling residents I would have voted and then telling those others that I support you completely. Your attack on Lukosus, Sapienza is desperate. I don't think either of them had a donation from the agency they represent(operation promise) directed toward the fire department and then it was removed by the donor with the intention that it was directed to the fire department. Is that the PFD problems you are concerned about? Let's not have any more investigations. Were all getting tired of the topic of the current 2nd ward alderperson.

12:35, yes a sewer sucker can be used on a day like this, but with the snow melt, there might be a lot of water being sucked up.

The Street Sweeper can also be use. When was the last time that thing saw the light of day?

Anonymous said...

Lois - there is a difference between "under voting" and "not voting." I routinely leave certain parts of the ballot blank. In particular, I see no reason to mark the ballot if there is no competition. I also leave that spot blank if I don't think either candidate is qualified.
This is registered as an "under vote." Its the next best thing to a none of the above spot.

Anonymous said...

Who oversees the electric dept.? Don't hear too much on this department. Why not?

Anonymous said...

The street sweeper has been used a lot over the summer and fall and was used up until the snow with keeping shooting park road clean while the school construction is going on.

Anonymous said...

1:45 I didn't see the street sweeper once in my neck of the woods this summer. As a matter of fact we hardly ever see it in our neighborhood. (north)

Anonymous said...

I thought the purpose of the street sweeper was to pick up debris - not clean dirt off the street. Its the debris that clogs the storm sewers, not dirt from a construction sight. But then again, cities that use sand on ice do have difficulties - so maybe my thinking is wrong. If somebody knows if construction dirt can clog up storm sewers - please post.

Over the weekend, the city came up as a topic of conversation. Most businesses downtown operate during the day. I didn't see this, but someone said snow clean up was being done during the day, which was inconvenient to downtown businesses and to drivers. Why isn't this done from 11-7 pm? Workers would work a night shift instead of day shift. Simple. No overtime, .....

As a elected position you must put your cause above yourself. That is the comment on the right side of this blog. To be a effective statesman you must be able to get the respect from your peers to make a difference. After all you want their vote. I don't know if Rodney gets that? Or if he gets along with any of those other elected officials. I guess if I was at City HALL and read what is on the blog about other members of the city, I would quickly know that the intention is too trash all except Perez. It could be a good strategy to get away from police investigations, abstain votes, etc,etc.... But does it help the 2nd ward?

Anonymous said...

3:17, maybe that is why there isn't a lot of people shopping downtown. The store are only open when normal people are at work.

Anonymous said...

I'm pretty sure the mechanic and his assistant did the lights for the public work department before we got a patrolman with the same business. And don't give me that crap that he does the public works department and not the fire or police department. Its all the same city . If he can't do it then let's get someone who can. I saw the command vehicle at fulmers today getting an oil change . He should be doing that . No more lining a patrolmans pockets with tax money with no limits . this is ridiculous!

Anonymous said...

@12:56 PM People such as yourself, although sparce, who sanction the endless spending and irresposibility of the Public Works Department of Peru will in the future be the one's complaining Of the high cost of living in Peru and wondering why.

Anonymous said...

4:26, do you know what your talkng about when you said they took care of the lights, yes they put the lights on PW vehicles, that is what he is hired for, he doesn't take care of the radio's, Nick does that for the city, PW mechanic is just that, he takes care of the PW equipment, he was hired by the PW dept, not the Police Electric Or the Fire Dept. the city is lucky to have him!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I assumed it was cleaning up the dirt. Nothing wrong with that. Why are we debating the street sweeper again?

Anonymous said...

You mean to tell me we don't have a certified mechanic who works on all city equipment and does easy oil changes? An oil change would be 3/4 less cost. Please explain someone?

Anonymous said...

Nicks does the lights and radio work for the city . Get a clue . One of these crooks needs to go . We have too many people doing the same job just to waste money and fill their pockets ! Why isn't this bid out ?

Anonymous said...

4:26, I know you don't get it but it is true he does do the lights for the PW vehicles, that is the department he was hired to. He is not the city mechanic, the electric had their own at one time also. If and when you know what your talking about, especially when you make remarks about if he can't do that get someone who can, people who know our mechanic will let you know how lucky we are to have him, he has saved the city more money than anyone within the city. So until you know that he is hired by one dept. and not all depts. it would be to your be to you benefit not to look like an idiot.

FYI: Today's Public Services Committee consisted of a closed session. I see that Wednesday's Finance and Safety Committee will be holding a closed session. All "Committee as a Whole" meetings are made up of closed sessions. Does anyone else wonder what is going on in our town behind these closed doors and will the public ever be let in on the secrets? A lot of the closed sessions seem to involve personnel. Do we have that many problems with our employees? Will any of the minutes from these meetings ever be released to the general public? I do know that they are supposed to be reviewed at least every 6 months. Do we even do that?

People don't shop downtown because there is a serious lack of attractive retail options. I see a "coming soon" sign for another smoke shop.. Right on the highly visible corner of 4th and Peoria.

Anonymous said...

I think the point he's trying to get across is Nick's does more than people know within the city and bills the city constantly for stuff the full time guys could do.

Anonymous said...

The city mechanic is smart enough to take care of the radios and all the lights. What is the mechanics hourly pay vs Nicks hourly rate.

LinkedIn.com is a great way to search for a personal profile of their job experiences, eduation. I searched a few people that have been mention several times over the past year or so. Here is what I found. One person on this site had a very descriptive profile. Another person there was no education listed, nor higher education listed, very vague. I recommend anybody who has questions regarding city employees who are paid extremely well, look them up. I understand now why so many questions regarding qualifications and education have been asked. After doing two minutes of research, guarantee you might have even more questions.

I can't believe that the city mechanic can only work on his departments equipement. This could be a great talking point in the upcoming election! How much could the city save on in house repairs vs a shop hourly labor rate 50.00 and up in our area.

It sounds like The Boss scheduled his State of the City address for tomorrow afternoon. No notice for the average citizen to request time off to attend. Inconvenient time for the average citizen. $25 charge for rubber chicken. Yup - that's how The Boss does things.

The questions regarding who should be doing oil changes on city owned vehicles or lighting on vehicles etc. are simple management decisions that would be easily handled by a qualified and honest department manager aka "Superintendent of Public Works". These problems and questions arise when there is no "qualified and ethical leadership" overseeing these departments. Peru does not have qualified and ethical leadership in these departments. In fact, they have no leadership in these departments. When that is the case, the parasites and opportunists who feed at the city trough will use that void in leadership to line their pockets. Of course this lighting, maintenance, and electrical work could be done in a cost-effective manner either by bidding the work fairly or performing it in-house. That can only happen with good and honest supervision supported by honest elected officials for each and every department. That is something Peru does not currently possess.

Where is the video from the Jan. 12th council meeting? If it becomes one of those that conveniently gets swallowed up by the equipment it's time to find a new provider. Don't they realize at city hall that citizens are now being fooled anymore by these selected videos disappearing?

8:17, you are forgetting the number one goal of the City of Peru Government. That goal is to take money from everyone in the Illinois Valley in the form of sales and property tax and give this money to the friends and family of that are in charge. Simple as that - weather or not the money is put to good use is irrelevant. At the end of the day, the balance on the books needs to be zero - i.e. money in equals money given to friends and family. Once they reach zero, they then ask for more.
I'm willing to bet that if an "F.O.H" opened a custom Buggy Whip store, our esteemed Alderman that chairs the Public Works committee along with his golf coach buddy would suddenly find a need to purchase hundreds of buggy whips.

Do a search by putting a person's name and city and state. Scroll down. LinkedIn.com the persons name will show with profile. I found this very interesting. Everybody who participates on this blog sit should check it out.
