I see that downtown is mentioned. They should do something around US Route 6's designation as the "Grand Army of the Republic Highway."

Isn't it ashame that Peru pays the wages to its administrators as it does and than when it comes to economic development it accepts someone who has no experience because he will work for a expense account and recognition.
Every town has had banners for the last 25 years besides Peru, now why doesn't Vickrey think of something orginal that would stand out. Anyone can see that the local paper makes a effort to make him look good because he worked for them for years. Was he a volunteer with the paper also?

3:05 - he is better, he funnels "economic development" money to local marketing businesses. Silly things like city of Peru banner adds on the NT web sight.

if you haven't listened to Governor Rauner's inauguration speech, you need to. He basically said he is going to war on government cronyism. I hope he can live up to that...

So much for the Quinn / Mautino Pork Pad aka Splash Pad.

"... All agencies are further ordered, until July 1, 2015, to halt the awarding, entering into, amending or renewing of state contracts and grants...."

Illinois Governor Executive Order 15-08.

7:11 that's interesting. Do you think it will apply to the splash pad grant since it has already been awarded? Or do you think it means from this time forward?

Good for Rauner. I have read news reports on this. Spending is out of control in Illinois. And in Peru.

The splash pad, I'm definitely pro for this. However, I believe that Veteran's park is not where the location should be. This splash pad should be at Baker Lake, if not there, Washington Park. Why don't we utilize Baker Lake for more then the path around the lake. I don't care who you are that lives in that area, or who would be against it. I'M USING JUST PLAIN OLD COMMON SENSE. Come on alderman, use your head. Is veterans park of any convenience for people? I also think that vandalism of sorts would be higher at Veterans. this splash pad may not come to frutation after Rauner today. I agree with where he is coming from, I would be disappointed if we don't get the grant money in the end, but, this mess of a state needs to have a starting point to make changes.

The plans have been for the splash pad to be at Washington Park near the footprint of the old pool. I don't believe Veterans Park was ever considered. In my opinion Veterans Park is not really a park but a place for local teams to play baseball. Nothing else takes place there.

8:16, I think the order applies to anything for which a check has NOT been issued yet. Including Mautino's $1.5 Million vote purchase ... I mean 911-Center... grant.
Get used to it... Madigan and crew might authorize it, but he executive branch needs to write the check.
It's going to be an interesting few years.
