Public Service Meeting Was Held on a Legal Holiday MLK Birthday Yesterday

(5 ILCS 120/2.01) (from Ch. 102, par. 42.01) Sec. 2.01. All meetings required by this Act to be public shall be held at specified times and places which are convenient and open to the public. No meeting required by this Act to be public shall be held on a legal holiday unless the regular meeting day falls on that holiday.

Public Service does always meet on Monday but not always at the same time and not on a regularly scheduled basis.

I think this is an optional holiday in Illinois. Was the clerk's office open?

Did the employees receive Holiday pay if they worked?

I heard that citizens attended this meeting and had to sit in an empty room for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Apparently the "closed session" portion of the meeting that was posted to be held at the end of the meeting was moved to the beginning without public notice. Wonder what was so important that this change had to be made without notice and that citizens had to be put thru sitting and waiting for so long. The actual meeting lasted approximately 20 minutes. Draw your own conclusions.

The section of the law states unless this is a regular scheduled meeting. It is and it was.

11:48 I beg to differ with you. The public service meetings are not regularly scheduled meetings and are held at random. They are also always started at 10:00 but this one was started at 9:00. Therefore, it was not a regularly scheduled meeting.

Go to the city web site and see for yourself that the meetings have no regular meeting schedule and time of meeting. Check for the meeting date and time. The only sameness is that it is always on a Monday for Ald. Waldorf's schedule and at some time in the morning.
I did not mean same time.

Another investigation?

It is a state holiday and a federal holiday. But if the city did not give a paid day off and the offices where open, it was not a city holiday. Does anyone know if the offices where open?

I read in the Dixon newspaper that they had their city workers out filling potholes on Monday. Can't say that I've seen that in Peru.

Anonymous said...

The offices were open, all employees work, it is definitely not a city holiday and never was.

Anonymous said...

You should have looked--potholes are being filled. Get out of the garage.
The next holiday will be Casmir Pulaski Day...all east side residents will be off of work.

The Closed Sessions have now also permeated the Public Services Committee. Hell, why not? Why not just hold all meetings in secret? Perhaps the great wisdom of Harl and the aldermen "brain trust" to have the public works and electric departments managed by a cop and a fireman has the wheels of those departments "wobbling" considerably more and more each day they go withpout proper leadership and guidance. What a shocker that there exists a tremendous "disconnect" between the employees and the elected and appointed officials. Who could have ever guessed that running these departments requires actual knowledge and expertise in Public Works and Electric Generation and Distribution? Chaos and confusion is running rampant thru the rank and file workers and there is nobody steering a ship that is heading directly toward the jagged rocks while Harl and most of the aldermen are scrambliong across the deck pushing women and children out of the way while they head for the lifeboats. Fact is, they deserve to go down with the ship and I hope they do.

Where is the last council meeting video??? Is somebody at city hall playing games???

Anonymous said...

12:59 Alderman Perez did abstain from the format of having Police-Fire run the whole city. I don't know if any of them voted NO?

Anonymous said...

the reason for the closed sessions is because they are afraid of open discussion. They don't want people talking about what the government does.

Anonymous said...

They are afraid of the Peru Town Forum 4:29, and the blog is open discussion and they do not like it.

The city council video from 1/12/15 is available for you to view on the Peru web site.

Imagine what would be happening and who would be really fooling who if it weren't for Peru Town Forum 4:27? The big billboard signs that advertise are approx. $800 a month. If I had the money to spend wisely it would be to advertise this Peru Town Forum on a couple billboards for a couple months. Now would be the time to do it before election. The company also designs the sign.

A high percentage of taxpayers are unaware of this forum 4:57. 6:03, a week long ad in two newspapers would get more participants on this blogsite.

I watched the video of the last council meeting. After Harl made the announcement of possible election fraud, not one councilman spoke. It wasn't until he prodded for discussion that yes man Waldorf spoke up. I liked Sappy better before he found his voice. He found his voice during the TEST vote, and it's been painful to listen to since then.

Alderman Waldorf don't let the city hall door hit you on the rear on your way out of city hall...

The meeting was probably over the resent resignation of an electric department employee.

Anonymous said...

Who retired?

Anonymous said...

7:03 said resignation. Means they quit. Wonder why if true.

Anonymous said...

Who resigned from the electric dept?

Anonymous said...

Probably get illegal ot

To: Drivers in the Illinois Valley

Subj: Please learn how to drive.

"Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it."

Now - In the absence of friction with the road, the only force that will stop you from remaining in motion is another car, a telephone pole, or other object. In times of low friction with the road, such as this morning, it is best to minimize your speed in order to allow the reduced friction to stop you.

In other words - slow the hell down you idiots!!!!

Anonymous said...

Did our city use salt this morning?

Anonymous said...

8:33, people should not have to slow down. The government (peru, county, state) needs to clear the roads. If they don't - they are at fault - NOT the drivers!

He left for better pay and less politics.

10:15: get real. It is NOT the job of government to remove all aspects of danger from your life. Personal responsibility kicks in quite frequently.
Are you living "The Life of Julia" or what? If you don't get that reference - look it up on Google.

11:15, who left for better pay and less politics?

An employee of Peru, no names will be posted, privacy of the individual will not appear here.

My question would be - if he quit, why does the council need to hold a meeting in closed session about it? If they are going to hire a replacement, that can be decided in an open meeting without talking about the guy that resigned.
My opinion is that the council is getting to involved in day to day operations.
If we had the Council-Manager form of government, the Manager would handle this without council involvement. He might come to the council if he determines that the wage needs to be increased - other than that, the council does not need to be part of this process.

I fear another lawsuit or investigation is soon to follow and maybe now some heads will roll and tax payers will get with it and stop watching our city go down the toilet ! Probly the employee that got tired of washing Hurl and Mrs.Hurls cars in the electric dept garage ! Probly the employee that got sick of being aware of private meetings with only select council members and their leader being held at the electric building . Was a good move putting that building way out in the middle of nowhere .

Anonymous said...

The council is very childish if someone quit they are probably afraid the ex employee will rat them out for something the two wanna be managers have to come up with a new game plan whoever is leaving good luck to you in your new adventure

Anonymous said...

The day will come when one will rat. Actually, didn't that happen already with a certain department a couple years ago? Didn't I read on this forum degrading this? Of course, it got manipulated and turned around.

Anonymous said...

Isn't the electric department where a water softner was bought and installed so that water spots would be elminated on black colored autos when being washed.

who lives in the house at the electric plant on Plank Road? How much is charged for rent?
